People who don't run the most successful company on the industry, think they know better than the ones who do...
That does not make any sense. Apple did not become a successful company because of the touch bar feature. It was always a successful company, owing largely to the success of the iPhone. Successful companies make wrong decisions all the time. There are a lot of people who agree with this guy. And that became clear from the outcry that followed launching of those Macbooks. The outcry that Apple took notice of. He can have an opinion about this as much as you and I can.

+1 for acknowledging there's two issues here: some people need the function keys, even if they also love the touch bar. :) Apple created a false choice here.

But such users would likely have their hands on the keyboard already, so pressing the "Fn" key to bring up the function keys should be a non-issue, right? Are there use cases where someone would use the function keys one-handed?

it is a gimmick no one asked for

I feel like my nTb 2016 base w a beautiful looking screen (since screen lottery is rampant on these MacBook pros) is the premium model:p

Minus just Two USB-c Ports but not an issue for me especially coming from one USB-c port

The TouchBar is horrible UI design: Most apps just move interface controls/widgets from the window and put them down onto the TouchBar far removed from the app's actual interface.

Instead of actual pro features like MORE battery capacity or more RAM or more usable PORTS we got an expensive gimmick that no one asked for.

If the TouchBar was so incredibly popular and awesome why wasn't it rolled into a desktop standalone keyboard for the updated Pro computers at least?

Yeah this is the thing, the new iMac Pro just has a standard keyboard, they could have included one with a touchbar with it, for the five grand starting price of the computer if nothing else.

Apple is selling more computers because of what?

Because of the touch bar and many other features like the Butterfly Keyboard, USB-C ports, etc. than many people here say they are bad.

Hey you hate it? That’s probably a good indicator that the general public loves it!

This guy doesn't sound all that familiar with hardware design. It's not like Apple can just "add on" the Touch Bar to their existing wireless desktop keyboards without some design/performance challenges in the mix.

Apple controls both the software and the hardware. There are no design or engineering challenges, only marketing and accounting challenges here.

What a Moaning Murtle — don’t use it. Does he really think Apple would lower the price if they didn’t have a Touch Bar?
The answer already exists. The 13 inch pro without the Touch Bar costs less than the one with Touch Bar.

Touch bar is a clever idea to test. The key is that it's tied to a mini-iOS implementation chip. Which means Apple "could" go full disk encryption per iPhones along with Activation Lock and all the other things. That's why there's zero removable SSD or RAM on these models.

I don't know about how I feel about my PC that locked down. Apple has done OK with iOS so far, but that's a bit much power to not abuse. On the other hand, with prying eyes everywhere, having a laptop where the data self destructs if the hardware is tampered with trying to skirt passwords isnt a bad thing.

Technically you can do this right now on a modern PC with TCM and OPAL SSDs but it's cumbersome and tricky to setup.. even harder to recover.

Full disk encryption doesn't require that chip, touch bar, soldered SSD or RAM in anyway.

I find it really nice. To me the writing is in the wall - more touch is coming to the Mac, not less. I do hope they roll it out more, particularly on the MacBook. It would ramp up development for it.

Funny how Apple sold a LOT of refurb 2015 MBP models when the new gimmicky "pros" came out.....

Imagine they didn't even include backlit keys on the new dedicated keyboard for a 5k machine on 2017 after decades of feedback, let alone the crapbar, typical Cook penny-pinching move.

The TouchBar may not have been successful, as evidenced by the fact that the new iMacs didn't offer a TouchBar keyboard even as an option. Even the iMac Pro was pictured with a non-TouchBar keyboard. If the TouchBar were as popular as Apple no doubt hoped, I think we'd be seeing it across the Mac lineup at this point. Instead, we seem to be seeing the opposite. I suspect it will stick around for a while as Apple doesn't like to admit mistakes, but we will see non-TB models added to the MacBook lineup before TB dies a slow death.

The idea wasn't without merit, but it had downsides for many. And I'll be Apple realizes that at this point.

The touch bar was the reason I bought a Windows 2-in-1 back in January over another Mac. Something I have not done since 2001. And you know what, it really is a great machine. The touch screen is great on a laptop and being able to use it as a tablet with a pen input for editing and reviewing photos is a Godsend. Apple would have been better served putting that R&D money into a 2-in-1 design and getting macOS to play nicely with touch.

And Win10 is actually decent.

Should Apple get their heads out of their A$$es I'd be back in a heartbeat.

I absolutely agree. The touchbar is a gimmick and is a factor is a ludicrous price hike. The fingerprint sensor is useful. Having the function keys removed is stupid - replacing them with non-tacile versions. F-Keys and especially the Escape key are not outdated, and there's still a great need for them - even in Apple's own applications.

I'm hoping in future revisions, there will be an option of a MacBook Pro sans the touch bar.

If you are getting a maxed out Macbook Pro, I recommend the iMac Pro instead and you won't have the control strip and you will be happier.

iMac Pro isn't a laptop. Its not portable.

Funny how on the second quarter of sale, the growth was even bigger than the first...

Funny how the ASP also grew...

Funny how you don’t have any proof for your statement and yet you somehow expect anyone to take it.

If he is a Moaning Murtle what does that make you? A Sycophant Sally? An Apple Allie? Lemming Lucy? Groupthink Gertie?

Add haptic feedback, two entire lines with and without it, and lower price a little.

Only thing is haters will still complain just because it doesn’t fit their own use case.

Haptic feedback doesn't solve anything -- you still can't feel the keys before you type. But let's be clear here -- the Touch Bar doesn't solve any problems -- only creates them for people who found F keys did solve a problem. Except for maybe emojis everything found on the Touch Bar is pretty much duplicated in the menu bar. There is no true use case for TB. It's a gimmick. It look's hella slick in ads. In real use not really. Touch Bar might be something good to have on the iPad keyboard where you have no mouse and some cmd functions don't work.

Apple can have Steve Schiller go on stage and say F Keys are old so therefor no good anymore. But, hey, fire, water, wheels are old too. They still solve problems even still.

Strange argument. If you don’t want to use the Touch Bar then don’t. I had camera card readers and FireWire ports on my various MacBooks and Pros for years and never used them ever. I didn’t think Apple should make me a laptop special that didn’t have the ports at the time. There are ways of making the Touch Bar only ever display is he function keys by default if it’s that big a deal.
