FWIW, Apple was never interested in banning Fortnite, they just weren’t interested in giving Fortnite its developer account back. I don’t think Apple gives two whits what you do on the web.

This isn’t a burn or a work around, it’s just evidence that ecosystems overlap in multiple ways.

Tim will now “personally handle” nVIDIA and get bonus stock options.

Apple would try to get Fortnite to stay away any which way they can.
Anyone playing Fortnite on using GeForceNOW on an iOS device is playing it on hardware that was purchased from Apple (either bought themselves, given as a gift, won in a contest, etc.). The commission on sales would be a nice add, but having more of their hardware out there is still a win for Apple.

It also cost Apple nothing as they are not using any of their API or benefiting from their platform marketing or the value of their name. Not to mention the Billion credit cards on file that they earned the right to.
Yeah, Apple could not care less. AND, on the off chance that there was any appreciable number of folks planning on dumping their iPhone because they couldn’t play Fortnite on it, well, now Epic and Nvidia have done Apple and their shareholders a nice favor.

I imagine Apple could just break it in Safari if they wanted to, but there isn’t much point. I also share the experiences of a lot of posters, the only people people I know who’ve played it are kids. My bosses kid played it when he was 13 or 14 but now he’s grown out of it.

With more than 80.4 million Fortnite monthly active users and up to 4 million concurrent players every day, Fortnite is the most popular battle royale game in 2022. With the massive cumulative tournament prize pool of $7.88 million in 2020, Fortnite is the third leading eSports game in the world
Source? PUBG, of which fortnight is a clone (remember wordle? We hate clowns, sorry clones) has three times as many players.

Just setup a free account on GeForce NOW. If I could only figure out how to try a game on iPhone, that would be cool… What a poor experience ? And pretty costly too if you care about performance and start buying some of these games!

I'm not a gamer by any means, but I can't imagine playing a game like this in a browser is anywhere near as good as a native app. But I guess it's better than nothing.
Bold statement. By not playing it you could do anything else and I would wager that is better.
I don't know. I've only seen two kinds of people that play Fortnite:

1. Child
2. Man child

I've never seen other demographics of Fortnite players. This is also anecdotal evidence, but DANG IT, it's always one of those two. It's never any other demographic.
I assume those demographics attract female twitch cosplayers.

Then you need to additionally stop trying to ASSume someone's emotional intent. Also, learn what anecdotal evidence means. This is the last reply I will give on this subject as we are veering into a derail which will also include the inevitable personal attacks against me.
I know what it means. It's a common phrase. I was just trying to help and I made exactly 0 assumptions about anyone. No offense was intended to you or anyone else. I just wanted to point out that your reply message about "anecdotal evidence" was not accurate in case you meant to make a different point.

Anecdotal evidence is a factual claim relying only on personal observation, collected in a casual or non-systematic manner. The term is sometimes used in a legal context to describe certain kinds of testimony which are uncorroborated by objective, independent evidence such as notarized documentation, photographs, audio-visual recordings, etc.

Apple has no issue with them using a browser. They have said this often b
100%
But, people argue there is only one way to get your wares on Apple's iOS. In the words of the Rock "FINALLY!" they listen and go the web app route.

>allowing Fortnite to be played through a browser on iOS devices with touch-based controls.

Anyone who has ever played a shooter is laughing so hard right now.
What do you mean? This will play amazing on Firefox. ?

This take is interesting, as one of the points being incessantly made when discussing anti-trust issues and Apple not allowing side-loading or alternate app stores was that web-apps are a perfectly viable and reasonable alternative to having an app on the app store. It's clear that argument was a disingenuous load of crap.

Ugh. I can't stand Epic's stupid decision to go rogue the way they did. I really like Fortnite and also really liked the mobile version.
I'm seeing a lot of hate here about it, so I'm about to blow some minds:

I'm in my mid 30's, have a good, well paying job (as a Mac tech, no less), am married, and play first person shooter games with an inverted joystick AND mouse.
I also really like Fortnite. Once you get the build mechanic down, it can be a lot of fun. The characters are fun, the models of 3rd party characters are good too. Story is amazingly good, though that's possibly because I still don't expect it to be good, but it keeps surprising me. All in all, it's a fun game, and there isn't anything else out there that is like it. I've tried a bunch, and I keep going back to Fortnite. I play it on PC, Switch, and used to play on Mac and iPhone.

Touchscreen iPhone FPS controls are surprisingly great. Using the thumb on a trackpad-like surface to aim is the best in-between of mouse and joystick aim, and is probably the reason why the Steam Deck has two trackpads alongside the joysticks. Pressing your thumb hard down on the screen and slightly moving it side to side gives me accuracy that I just can't get with a joystick. I don't like this fact either, but it's just how it is.

Rant over. Everyone can get back on their hate bandwagon of popular things they don't understand.

Except that playing a game in a browser works really well, in my experience, over a variety of connections. I've been using nVidia Now for a couple months, and it's great. Yes, I use their client on the Mac, but it works in the browser just fine on the iPad.

I'd suggest before calling something disingenuous crap, you should try web-based apps for yourself. nVidia offers a free tier, to try it out.

Additionally, people here seem to be focusing on the touch controls for some reason. It works with an Apple MFi controller, Xbox controller, or PS4 controller.

How so?
6-12 million people playing depending time of the day sounds like a pretty decent number.
You can look at the live stats looking at https://playercounter.com/fortnite/

*The amount of active players you see above is the closest estimate of how many people are playing Fortnite at this moment all over the world in real-time, this figure is as estimated using our Gohost Network Protocol technology, otherwise known as GNP.

Currently in 2022 at this moment its running at 3.1 million online. But the reason I asked does anybody really play it anymore was against its longevity/replay value after a few years. They did just completely walk away from all Apple users when they had decided to poke the bear.

United States of America
United States – 27.52%

Brazil
Brazil – 8.08%

Russia
Russia – 5.50%

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
United Kingdom – 5.14%

Germany
Germany – 4.78%

So everyone I quoted is also misinformed on the experience of playing games through a browser?

Can you imagine how laggy and slow it’s going to be on Safari? 😫😫
Well, there is a reason why Apple does not allow alternative browser engines which performs better than Safari.
Alternative Browser Engines has the potential to take pieces of Apples cake.

Just another reason why gatekeepers must be destroyed.

I often play Fortnite on my 14" MacBook Pro M1 Pro via GeForce Now RTX3080 tier at Epic settings with a resolution of 1440p and it's absolutely fine - every bit as good as playing it natively on my HP Omen laptop with an RTX2060.

Providing you've got the bandwidth and latency, GeForce Now is a good option. Shadow of the Tomb Raider (which I picked up free via the Epic Games Store) runs around 100-135fps at 1440p on GeForce Now. GFN could do with more support from developers, but ultimately I'm very happy with the performance and availability of the service. I'm not sure I want to play a game like Fortnite on a touch device like an iPhone or iPad - but at least the option's there.

Except the difference with apple is that Nvidia is not charging epic ANYTHING. They actually allow epic store to run INSIDE the streaming service.
If you think that Nvidia is simply going to let free-tier users gobble up GeForce Now server time on Fortnight—and letting Epic keep any and all proceeds—as a loss leader forever, then I have a bridge or two you might be interested in…
