Steve Job's clothing is a bit weird and creepy though...always the same black top, jeans and white trainers...even his 'mini-me' sidekick Jony Ive went from being a 'regular guy' to someone who looks like a Waco-style cult leader !!

And a lying (or stupid) bunch of critics who massively overstate the problem while ignoring the fact that it hangs on to more calls than before overall, downloads and uploads at incredible speed, has the best screen on the market, the largest number of apps on any platform, etc. Go ahead, Swiftboat all you want, Tea Party your ass off, you still can't touch that.

+1 :D

We associate 'clever' with 'trickiness.'

A math genius is 'smart' for figuring out a formula.
A magician is 'clever' for fooling an audience.

An investor is 'smart' at picking the right companies to buy.
A criminal is 'clever' for eluding the police.

A child is 'smart' when he passes a test.
A child is 'clever' when he gets away with something without being caught.

The both mean almost the same thing, but we tend to use 'clever' in negative situations. Not 100% of the time, mind you, but more often than not. I guess it's not the same over there.

Who's smarter in the business than Steve and Jonathan? Tech has moved so vastly because of the two of them! KUDOS!!!:)

Yeah, maybe. But the more I read about the PERSON Steve Jobs, the less I would ever want to work at a company that's run by him. I'd much rather work at Microsoft. Which is sort of funny, actually, since I pretty much prefer Apple products. But I've visited the Microsoft campus once in Redmond and talked with a lot of people there and found the place pretty impressing.

Ya, you would think for someone who is so swift in design would of atleast resembles to that by the way he dresses. Hey, you can't call out a billion dollar man undercovered.

There is Steve Jobs then there is ....

Help me out here, because who else would you even consider. I really can't think of any CEOs that are really product oriented.

Jobs seems unique in his product detail orientation, his ability to spot the best people and get the best work out of them. It isn't just all the success at Apple. Look a Pixar, again he has other superb talents like Lasseter doing top work.

Gates is clearly a titan in the industry, but really his methodology is more about the business deal and a long history of cut-throat business actions against both competitors and partners.

I can't even think of anyone else.

LOL, similar to the punchline, "I may be drunk, but by morning, I'll be sober and you'll still be ugly."

And before the rest of the teenagers here die stupid, this quote is from Winston Churchill. The American readers might have to visit Wikipedia to learn who that was.

"Smart" generally refers to an innate ability. "Clever" usually refers to behavior. Do Americans confuse the words or the traits?

Please don't try to generalize about the language usage of 300 million people. There is no point.

While your at it, you probably shouldn't generalize about your own country's usage either.

Just ask people around you about their feelings about various words. You will be surprised to find out how far apart you are many times.

I

Smart enough to trick their followers into buying a product that has problems. Okay.

.

does your product has a problem indeed, or are you a ________ following others cries of self-gratification?

By any chance, did the antenna engineers receive any honorable mentions?

Oh wait… never mind...

Anyways, good for Steve, he is in fact a really smart man with a great vision…

IMHO Apple is an awesome brand thanks to Steve Jobs…

Congrats to them both.

On a side note I always found it strange that Americans say smartest instead of cleverest.

A clever person is quick-witted, good at puzzles and adventure video games. A smart person doesn't waste time on video games, but might hire a clever gamer to develop video games to make him rich.

Jobs is smart. Woz was clever.

Ever watch a TED talk or a Charlie Rose interview with CEOs from all sorts of different industries? Wind power? Biotech? Solar? Bioengineering? Wireless technology? Agri-tech? These are the people that make a difference in people's lives, not some disposable gadget maker.

Jobs is the pop star. He makes gadgets. His contribution to the progress of technology is superficial. He takes things that already exist and makes them shiny.

Bill Gates, same thing. But at least he donates money to worthy causes instead of hording it.

I still have no idea why people are bad mouthing the best phone on the market. Go look at some reviews and see for yourselves. This is, by far, the best phone i've ever seen and wouldn't trade it for any other phone on the market. And YES I have educated myself and still prefer the iPhone 4. I guess i'm crazy.

Because the Apple II, the Macintosh, and the iPhone didn't change the world right?

On a side note, I absolutely LOVE TED talks, anyone that is interested download as many as you can in itunes. Fascinating!

Maybe they wrote the article before they got their hands on the iPhone 4 antenna?

=p

So smart that they design an iPhone that has MANY problems.

A statement that sums up the problem with most people; that they'll believe any overblown hype spoon-fed to them by the lying swine that is the media. I have to deal with brainless wastes of air and flesh like this every day.

Hunter was right...

just bought a $299 laptop for my father in law. he was going to buy it and we went to best buy to look. i showed him the apple section and told him the reason for the cost premium. he went over to look at the $329 toshiba that went on sale for $299 the next day. i used it for an hour and was very impressed with the out of the box experience. very different than my mother's dell a few years ago

I'm not sure what you consider to be an "impressive" out of box experience, especially for a $299 PC. :p. My neighbor and my step mother just bought HP notebooks, the neighbor's was $699 and my step mother's was $399. Both of them had the same old, same old Windows out of box experience. As soon as you start it up the antivirus software trial subscription is in your face to activate it along with the Windows pop ups annoying you to do it. The desktop is full of trial software the usual ridiculously crazy amount of stickers are on the computer's palm rest that are near impossible to remove without residue. For that price range I beg to differ that it ships with a good keyboard without flex and a strong build quality. What's different and impressive?

About as spot on as it gets. Apple was much cooler when it was the underdog.

I think Steve Jobs put it best : "It's good enough". Why pay a premium for a Mac or Blu-ray when a PC or DVD is good enough for the masses ? :p

Who says anything about wanting to work for SJ? The article is just about him being smart in business which he is. Because of smart business sense we as customers have had some great technology to purchase.
