And a lying (or stupid) bunch of critics who massively overstate the problem while ignoring the fact that it hangs on to more calls than before overall, downloads and uploads at incredible speed, has the best screen on the market, the largest number of apps on any platform, etc. Go ahead, Swiftboat all you want, Tea Party your ass off, you still can't touch that.
We associate 'clever' with 'trickiness.'
A math genius is 'smart' for figuring out a formula.
A magician is 'clever' for fooling an audience.
An investor is 'smart' at picking the right companies to buy.
A criminal is 'clever' for eluding the police.
A child is 'smart' when he passes a test.
A child is 'clever' when he gets away with something without being caught.
The both mean almost the same thing, but we tend to use 'clever' in negative situations. Not 100% of the time, mind you, but more often than not. I guess it's not the same over there.
Who's smarter in the business than Steve and Jonathan? Tech has moved so vastly because of the two of them! KUDOS!!!![]()
They forgot to mention how uber sexy Jony Ive is! YUM.![]()
Steve Job's clothing is a bit weird and creepy though...always the same black top, jeans and white trainers...even his 'mini-me' sidekick Jony Ive went from being a 'regular guy' to someone who looks like a Waco-style cult leader !!
Wait, is that 'Smartest' or 'Smartass' ??? Sorry, I was holding my iPhone wrong and couldn't tell.
LOL, similar to the punchline, "I may be drunk, but by morning, I'll be sober and you'll still be ugly."
So smart that they design an iPhone that has MANY problems.
"Smart" generally refers to an innate ability. "Clever" usually refers to behavior. Do Americans confuse the words or the traits?
I
Smart enough to trick their followers into buying a product that has problems. Okay.
.

Congrats to them both.
On a side note I always found it strange that Americans say smartest instead of cleverest.
There is Steve Jobs then there is ....
Help me out here, because who else would you even consider. I really can't think of any CEOs that are really product oriented.
Jobs seems unique in his product detail orientation, his ability to spot the best people and get the best work out of them. It isn't just all the success at Apple. Look a Pixar, again he has other superb talents like Lasseter doing top work.
Gates is clearly a titan in the industry, but really his methodology is more about the business deal and a long history of cut-throat business actions against both competitors and partners.
I can't even think of anyone else.
Because the Apple II, the Macintosh, and the iPhone didn't change the world right?Ever watch a TED talk or a Charlie Rose interview with CEOs from all sorts of different industries? Wind power? Biotech? Solar? Bioengineering? Wireless technology? Agri-tech? These are the people that make a difference in people's lives, not some disposable gadget maker.
Jobs is the pop star. He makes gadgets. His contribution to the progress of technology is superficial. He takes things that already exist and makes them shiny.
Bill Gates, same thing. But at least he donates money to worthy causes instead of hording it.

just bought a $299 laptop for my father in law. he was going to buy it and we went to best buy to look. i showed him the apple section and told him the reason for the cost premium. he went over to look at the $329 toshiba that went on sale for $299 the next day. i used it for an hour and was very impressed with the out of the box experience. very different than my mother's dell a few years ago

I'm not sure what you consider to be an "impressive" out of box experience, especially for a $299 PC.. My neighbor and my step mother just bought HP notebooks, the neighbor's was $699 and my step mother's was $399. Both of them had the same old, same old Windows out of box experience. As soon as you start it up the antivirus software trial subscription is in your face to activate it along with the Windows pop ups annoying you to do it. The desktop is full of trial software the usual ridiculously crazy amount of stickers are on the computer's palm rest that are near impossible to remove without residue. For that price range I beg to differ that it ships with a good keyboard without flex and a strong build quality. What's different and impressive?

Yeah, maybe. But the more I read about the PERSON Steve Jobs, the less I would ever want to work at a company that's run by him. I'd much rather work at Microsoft. Which is sort of funny, actually, since I pretty much prefer Apple products. But I've visited the Microsoft campus once in Redmond and talked with a lot of people there and found the place pretty impressing.
