It would be cool if they announced and wwdc :apple: New IPads in september and a nice shiny watch in October/November.

I think the reported delay of a month or two for the 5.5" model is only for manufacturing because demand will be lower. If it gets delayed, it might only be a couple weeks like the Retina iPad Mini.

I hope the 5.5" isn't a premium device in terms of having exclusive features. Obviously it should cost more for a larger display, and perhaps it could have a little bit longer battery life due to increased space for a battery. But beyond that, I really hope they are quite similar. I don't want to have to get the 5.5" to get a premium experience. If I do, I might just stick with my old iPhone 5 for another year. It still runs perfectly—though iOS 8 may take a toll.

Bring it on :apple:,....my money is ready

I'll take that. *Takes* Thanks.

Anyway, much as I hate the flat iOS 7/8 interface (using 6.1.2 on iPhone 5), I'm confident Cydia will have iOS 8/iPhone 6 cracked before too long... 5 took forever, 5S happened pretty quickly.

Bring it on :) ready for a 4.7" handset.

Can't wait for the first Android fanboy comment about how Apple is catching up with Android. I can't stop laughing at idiotic comments like that.

Granting your post Memorial Day wish:

OMG Apple is finally catching up with Android! Happy now?

What do you want to bet Samsung is going to come out with a 4.7" phone now? They always copy Apple.

You should be ecstatic.

Bolded from your comment: Pot, meet kettle.

I also read that Deutsche Telokom may have leaked a Sept. 19th release date as well.

I would call that more of a best guess, than a leak.
Given that the 5S released on Friday, September 20 last year, the iPhone 5 on Friday Sept 21 the year before that... Them saying and planning for Friday September 19 this year isn't exactly going out on a limb.

the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model have suggested that it may arrive as a premium model in lower quantities with perhaps exclusive features such as a sapphire crystal display

why this discrimination ?? why not apply the same idea such ipad line up?
i want a sapphire display but i dont want a 5.5" iPhone

Pricier?

iPhone 5s are already damn near $800 (I only get 64 or larger)! I'd be scared how much a "pricier" model would be. I really want off the iPhone merry go round, but for some reason a lot of my music won't transfer to Android or Windows even though they are DRM free. Of course, I can always use Google Play, but I'd prefer not to.

I can see them still being released simultaneously, with the 5.5" in shorter supply for a while. The $100 markup for the larger size makes sense.

It wasn't that long ago that people would pay a lot more $$$ for a smaller phone because that was the highest tech and most fashionable.

RAZR flip phone anyone?

Interestingly I did the exact same things with my RAZR V3i flip phone that I do now with my iPhone:

1. Excellent Opera mini web browser for web browsing
2. Email
3. MP3 player
4. Texting
5. Phone Calls
6. Calander

Except that now my phone weighs a lot more, has a lot less battery life, is much larger in my pocket, far more expensive, and costs more per month. To do the EXACT. SAME. STUFF. Yay.

Why don't I just go back to my RAZR V3i? Cause Opera stopped updating the web browser.

I guess there is one thing that the V3i didn't have, which was GPS - I had a standalone in the car for that.

The RAZR V9 had GPS but was stupidly locked into AT&T for $10 a month. To use stupid GPS. So I didn't get it and Motorola died. Oh well.

I think you'll get your wish.
I truly think that the iPad Mini with Retina vs the iPad Air was Apple's sales test to see how that spec/pricing model does. Two similary spec'd devices - the only difference being screen size, and a $100 premium for the larger model.
If this proved to be successful and didn't mess with their projected sales and profit too much (if one had a higher profit margin than the other), then why not do the same type of model with the iPhone? Sounds good to me.

It's no longer a question of catching up. Each platform has gone in a different direction. When it comes to form factor and customization, Apple has fewer options with a more consistent, more controlled walled garden from one vendor. Android has more flexibility and options, but a less consistent open platform from multiple vendors.

Everything else is subjective feature, UI, and ecosystem comparisons. The choice comes down to subjective likes and dislikes, not objective progress down one road map where one side is ahead. That's why many of us who have owned both iPhones and Android phones are puzzled by the religious war that has emerged. They are both great choices... one is not better than the other. It just depends on your priorities.

I use iTunes match and downloaded all of my music to my hard drive to have "iTunes master copies" in 256kbps. I keep them on my computer and have transferred them to other devices I own. The only thing is that they are .m4a (not mp3) files, which may not be compatible with every player out there.
It may be worth it to you to spend the $25 per year (don't think they offer a trial).

As for the higher pricing, i think it is just $100 more for the 5.5" model, exactly as the iPad Mini with Retina vs iPad Air is $100 more for the larger screen. Same thing here, most likely. So if it was "$800ish" before, that will be the price of the 4.7, and I guess 900-ish for the 5.5".

Agreed, lol. I will never understand the obsession with making phones larger, but making tablets smaller.

Didn't you feel like THE MAN with that razr? That was a sweet phone. Those were the days.
With that logic though, the iPad mini with Retina should cost more than the iPad Air. Similarly spec'd hardware in a much smaller footprint.
Oddly enough, I own an iPad Mini with Retina - not because of the cheaper price, but because of the similar power in a smaller package.
I totally agree with what you're saying - it's funny how this works out sometimes.

Tired of the same speculation over and over and over. Give us something new.

When we hear the same speculation over and over, it likely means that these have graduated from rumor to mostly fact. So it is good when we hear the same thing repeatedly! :)

Looking good. Im happy i skipped 5s.

After owning a 5S I'm happy to have one. The M7 chip is used daily by me for Nike Move and my phone is also my Fitbit... saved me 100 bucks for one of those. I was "forced" to upgrade though as at&t was having a bitch of a time unlocking my iPhone 5 when I jumped to T-mobile.
Took over 2 months.

Why is it idiotic when its true? Heck, even blackberry has a bigger screen than iphone. Now go back and drink some more of that apple koolaide.

Don't worry, if due to a 2-year contract (sounds like you're with T-Mobile though), when the 6S comes out you will say "I'm glad I skipped the 6!".
And then when the 7 comes out, those who own a 6 will say "glad I skipped the 6S!".
And so on, and so forth.

I'm guessing he means "catch up" is the wrong word, or being interpreted in the wrong sense.

Apple creating a larger screen isn't exactly catching up in tech or innovation. It is not that they could not do it, it is because they did not want to do it.
From a technical standpoint, it is more difficult to cram as much tech and battery into a smaller space. It is much easier to just make a 5" screen, in order to fit LTE chips that were seperate, have a battery that can last half a day, and cram everything else in that wasn't exactly a breakthrough. That was the easy way out for Android manufacturers. And lucky for them, consumers are loving their big screens. Now Apple is responding to the markets.

So while Apple is not catching up to any technical breakthroughs or innovation, they are indeed catching up to what customers and the sales markets are dictating as a whole.

Either way, choice isn't a bad thing. I enjoy being able to choose between iPad Mini and iPad Air. I will enjoy being able to choose between two sized iPhones.

I dont like having 3 iPhones in the Apple Store 6C, 6, 6+.

One phone must rule them all!

Gosh those were the days weren't they! Nothing was locked down yet, the RAZR had an amazing hacking community - we were hacking that phone literally bit - by - bit!

I even managed to find a way back then to mess with the registers for the microphone equalization settings - i tailored it to make my voice incredibly clear to callers at the other end - I was often complimented on how good I sounded on my particular hacked little phone. I still have it deep in a box somewhere.

I tried to find a similar way to hack at the mic of a few of my android phones and never figured it out after many hours of digging through source code.

iPhone? Forget about it. I'm just learning to live with what apple spoon feeds me.

The RAZR was my favourite phone ever before I went touchscreen, but to suggest that just because it was capable of the same tasks, it is equivalent (or superior) to modern smartphones is disingenuous at best.

If you returned now to your RAZR you'd find the UX clunky, slow and grainy looking. A product of its time. I still have mine and will keep it for posterity but I'm not naive enough to think its something I could ever go back to.

If all you do is the basics you list above, you don't need an iPhone. Pick up some low-end android phone and enjoy your long battery life.
