I don't think the tablet/slate/whatever will look anything like that. The mockups of the iPhone looked an iPod with a dialer, and look what we got. I think the tablet will be the same.

Could be, but a tablet by definition would be basically a screen form factor, and therefore there is not much esthetically you can do with that to make it radically different unless they have a folding OLED or something. I'm excited to find out! :D

Webcam? Did not see that coming. That's surely going to be awkward, unless there's some sort of stand involved.

Why the heck would you want a stand for something you are supposed to hold in your hands?

A lot of people use stands for their iPhones for status updates like weather, clocks, alarms and so on.

The tablet stand would make sense for the same thing along with bluetooth keyboard.

Also there are integrated camera that moves around, it's not always fixed.

It's sounding less and less likely that I get one. I was planning on it depending on how it looks. But with it rumored to being close to $1,000 it's not that far off from the price of an apple laptop. I was thinking a few hundred more than a Kindle or something. Then with the talk of being on a carrier. No thanks. That would do it in for me. I've already got an iPhone on AT&T to pay for. And I have a Macbook Pro. If it goes for around $500 - $700 and doesn't have to be on a carrier plan then I'll consider it.

I hope so. Even the thought having to sign a contract of sometime would be a giant disappointment. I can't seem to get the iPhone=AT&T costs.

You people do realize there'll be two models, like iPhone/iPod Touch?

Nonexistent. That's the probability. Tegra2 does not include a cellular modem.
.......
Tegra2 does include an interface to allow a cellular modem, they just don't include it. The problem is that it's a SoC design, meaning everything is in one package, they can't include a single package with a cellular modem that works around the world. So they leave the modem out allowing the vendor to include their own and have one single design for the rest of the world.

$700 Euro for an iPhone?!?! They're THAT expensive over there? Good grief. I paid $199 for mine.
It's 700$ for an unlocked phone in US as well, the 199$ comes with 2 years contract. Not all countries have a single exclusive carrier for the iPhone like the US:ATT, in those countries, the iPhones are unlocked and sell for those kind of prices.

WOW whatever! Comments like this are hilarious. Yes the God of Apple will come down and smite him for his transgression I'm sure.

Do you not all realise that France Telecom are about 3 times the size of Apple with positions in all the worlds large markets.

So who is who's bitch?

Do you REALLY think for one minute that Apple would NOT sell this product through FT just because of an ambiguous response to a rumor? FT has the most capable data network and infrastructure in the area - Apple will NOT refuse to sell it through anyone because of this supposed 'slip'. I don't think this guy was even talking about the rumored Apple tablet device but the rumor OF a tablet and a tablet device on their much upgraded network.

Apple will not generally cut off their nose to spite their face...

D

You have to sometimes question the rationale of some of the posters here. Either they are just emotionally caught up when they're posting or they actually believe is some all controlling superpower who can fire partner CEO's

He simply confirmed something everyone already knew. No one is getting fired and deals aren't being terminated as a result of this conference. Let's get real here.

It's a hologram projection that emerges from your Apple wrist watch ;)

The patent calls for two screens side to side that can be also flipped to be opposite.

That said, how close can two screens be together these days? 1/4"?

Several posters have said the tangible advantages of vertical format on iPhones. I agree. There used to be HxV flippable displays and they spent more time V. H is a HD movie thing. We have a TV for that. :D

Show me a near zero space display interface. Please.

The one who broke NDA.

I don't care how big they are, they are under NDA if they know anything about this device at all. He was an idiot to say anything.

His only hope is that he really doesn't know anything, and really did mis-speak. It's possible, however unlikely.

How you know he was under NDA, or if even, Apple have approached the company.

The amount of crap spewed on this story forum is just unreal, bordering on spite ; All because this someone was French.

This has to be one of the ugliest forum topic I've ever read. Most definitely the dark side of Macrumors.

< Looking forward to this disappearing off from front page - with stories containing better light hearted comments :D >

I know Apple's "controlled leaks" typically come from published sources, but one wonder if these recent "casual slips" by executives have all been quasi-choreographed by Apple too.

"Hey, Bill, maybe you could do me a solid and slip the phrase 'Apple's impending slate' into a speech sometime in October. Thanks, buddy."
If that's true, the interviewer in this case was apparently in on the plan, asking the leading question to produce the "slip."

Not sure about which patent you are talking about and I doubt it will be a dual screen book form.

I have wondered though, whether Apple will make the iSlate vertical oriented by default with the home button, or landscape default! By iPhone logic it would make sense that they would orient it vertically and you would just turn it when watching movies like now. Especially since the e-book thing will be a big part of it. All of that would be in vertical I think. It is odd though, I always just imagine myself playing on it in landscape mode since it seems more computer like. Can't wait to see what it is really like FINALLY after all these years! :D

I just listened this extract and believe to get the right understanding as I am a native french speaker. We can reasonably assume that he was actually just acknowledging to the questions, without presuming he is aware of something.

The question refers to a newspaper article and we can see he has read this article as everybody, and confirms that yes Orange would be interested to sell this device if it was launched.

It's obviously not a mistake as he is very relaxed and calm when telling this, he's #2 at orange and would't be that dumb.

That's my humble opinion guys...

So "According to weekly Le Point, in a couple of days Apple will be launching its tablet computer..." to which he says "Yes".

OMG what a confirmation! Le Point actually said that Apple would be launching a tablet.

And "...equipped with a webcam." to which he responds "Yes".

Seriously? Le Point said the iTablet would have a webcam? OMG.

Finally "Are Orange customers going to be able to enjoy it?" to which he responded "Of Course".

What he forgot to say was, "like every other person on the planet who can afford it".
He said absolutly nothing and got a lot of free publicity for Orange. This guy is my hero.

He didn't. He said more than that. Go back a page and read my translation.

Too bad he already confirmed what I said, he was only confirming rumors, just as I said.
And I can't find a place that quotes what you said in your post, even in french.
