You're kidding right? I recently watched all the Dexter seasons via instant watch, and the quality was great.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it crap. However, I don't think any of there stuff is HD, but definitely DVD quality.

EDIT: I stand corrected on the HD comment. I've been watching mostly older shows recently and have not noticed HD content.

Im sure many would disagree with you. You either have bad vision or a poor quality internet connection because I watch their instant movies often and the quality is just fine.

No i have a fast connection, although i did try them a year ago and never seen an HD movie so maybe they changed some stuff, sorry :)

I'm really surprised. Perhaps they just figured it was so easy to implement that it made sense to have done for the launch. They use IIS to deliver the video, and Microsoft actually has a way for it to deliver H.264, so it likely was trivial to put together.

So I guess Netflix and that periodic table app for killer apps.

The source article is dated March 31, so this is pretty cool news. I don't have a netflix account yet, but I imagine getting one sometime in the near future.

Isn't the Underlaying video H.264 though? The Silverlight is just a wrapper, like Flash is for a lot of video. Judging from the Screenshots, its jsut running the native H.264 video in the "Quicktime" player on the device. No trickery. :)

did anyone try Starz Play instead of unlimited plan?

"While access to instantly watch choices from the Starz Play service is included with all Unlimited plans, we do have a plan that limits what is available to watch to Starz Play service choices only. While this plan does not have any DVDs, it does offer unlimited streaming of these choices for $7.99 a month. This plan does not have a free trial."

Ok, I was thinking "hell yes" to myself a second ago... but it's April Fool's day. Dang it I hate this freaking day.

Right, although the reason they use Silverlight on the desktop is so they can wrap it up in DRM (and I suppose also for some of the player features, namely the rewind/fast forward). I guess they don't need to worry about that on the iPad, because there is no way to save the video.

All I know is that I'm about to use a whole lot more Netflix streaming. Thank god it's unlimited.
