Sink

I doubt that the seam would really improve shock resistance. The most plausible explanation that I've read is that the seam is a vent and allows some of the heat to dissipate.

The iPad has some heavily discussed issues concerning heat-related shutdowns.

I've dropped my iPod touch a number of times before I got a case (it's a slippery little critter), but nothing more than a couple of scratches in the metal. It's still a pretty durable design.

Well and I have also heard the theory that the band is really a heat sink and the seams facilitate expansion and contraction. But then I'm voting that this not what the final device will look like.

I wonder if Steve Jobs will be asked by uncle walt and Kira at the ALL THINGS D conference June 1st about these iPhone leaks and photos?!?!

.........

@ ARN Where are the Mac- Rumors? When are we getting new MacBook Airs or Cinema Displays or Mac Pro's or Mac Mini's... I have a feeling once the new iPhone is out the new rumors will be about iPods

Also is Erik on vacation or something?

hahaha how come I have a feeling that:

Steve: Since you guys took our prototypes, I'm not going to announce any new iPhone this conference.

That's a huge twist lol
not going to happen though, coz Android is catching up....

but still.... Steve must be mad...

Agreed. I highly doubt that Apple will hold back anything because of the leak. perhaps it's like every one said, a controlled leak. This one is more likely the controlled leak that Apple was looking for. The Gizmodo leak was in fact something that should have happened since the cops got involved.

Back to the point. If they delay the release of the iPhone, they just lost a huge customer base. I am willing to be on a ton of people on the fence right now on which phone to get. If Steve holds back the new iPhone because of this, there are enough fed up people with AT&T's service that will jump ship and get the EVO and the Incredible.

lets be honest

The guy who left it at the bar was a mistake and he "leaked" it. Now that the cat is out of the bag, Apple is doing what they do best, controlling the hype. They're brilliant but we are their pawns and nobody is talking about HTC or any of the other phones right now because we all know what is coming in June.

This is going to be great.

Yes, I have heard that theory as well and it's ludicrous.

Does metal expand and contract that much in normal operating conditions for a handheld consumer electronics device? If it were really the case, all notebook computers would have lots of seams; they get way hotter than smartphones.

Also, the aluminum engine block in your car would have such features. I could go through a list of common household appliances, but I think I've made my point.

That "theory" is laughable.

it's a little odd that there's never been much of a leak before, and now all of a sudden there are 3. Can that really be an unintentional accident on Apple's part? BTW, have you guys seen the Sprint 4G Evo? I just pre-ordered mine today, troll, troll, troll, troll...

Why is it odd? History does not always dictate future.

If these are called a 'Leak', then Steve doesn't seem to be able to close the isolation valve. Kinda reminds me of the Gulf Oil Spill.

Android is no longer "catching up". They are giving away so many they are surpassing the iPhone.

Good. I noticed Verizon is always doing the Buy 1 Get 1 Free promotion, and just recently saw it with the Droid on T.V.

I'm dreaming of the day Apple / the iPhone has some real, serious competition so they have to stop stringing us along with minor updates the original iPhone should've had.

Don't get me wrong I love my 3GS, wouldn't trade it for anything. What sickens me is that Apple can release such minor updates but just enough for you to want to upgrade - which is their marketing strategy but I want them to have competition so they can't do that anymore.

You did not get memo on this? Apple is now Apple Consumer Electronics, meaning that those things mentioned are now insignificant products. The 30 inch ACD is 7 years old, the MacPro enclosure is 7 years old, and the Mac Mini is 6 years old.

3 "leaked" prototypes is just crazy. My gut wants to make me believe this was all planned by Apple and they will amaze us with something different at WWDC, but I doubt it. I guess the larger Apple gets the more chances of holes in their security.

I know you're being a bit facetious, but one of the major reasons Apple Inc. dropped "Computer" from its name is not just that they make other products... but that the nature of what "computing" is and what form it takes has been evolving rapidly in recent years.

"computer" is a term that no longer accurately reflects what most computing devices actually do for the user's sake. This is an important distinction, and one that has kept Apple from dying like a weed as people branch out into mobile devices and other digital appliances more and more.

At tis point we really should call this case closed not to be reopened until after WWDC. really...

@ arn, any word on the Mac pro? Will it see an update soon... I have the cash, I jut want to know what's coming down the pipe.

Maybe it's a good idea to merge these iPhone 4G (HD) rumours, or make a "best of iPhone 4G rumours"?

Every time I re-visit macrumors.com I see a new iPhone 4G rumour, often related to an earlier rumour.
This place is flooding...

"iphone pro" - what, to market it away from a majority of the market who will see it as "more than i need" and/or more expensive, since the "pro" version of things is always more expensive?

this needs to be named to appeal to /everyone/ not just 'pro' users.

Have you ever heard of the Mac Book Pro?

How about the iPhone Pro? That's my bet as to what they will call it.
