From Steve Jobs' Biography: "I'm going to destroy Android"

And yet he's never shown a moment's remorse from stealing practically the entire concept of the Macintosh from Xerox, without which Apple wouldn't even exist any more.

They didn't steal anything. Xerox did not build personal computers with a GUI. Xerox had a mouse cursor interface and they didn't know what to do with it. And Apple licensed it.

But Microsoft did actually steal almost everything from Mac OS.

Some people enjoy Pepsi, some enjoy Coke. To each their own, stop crying. Any android success is good for ALL, keeps Apple going. I don't know about you, but I sure love my new notification center with widgets...get the point?

Anyone can cherry pick screenshots, and the one you chose is Samsung's UI that has been customized by the user of that phone to look like iOS.

Those pictures are not user-customized, its the default Touch-Wiz interface which is a rip-off of the iPhone. Its not just the software they've copied, look at Samsung Galaxy Ace and Galaxy S (original), they look quite a lot like iPhone.

This makes me wonder how many other cans of worms are going to be opened when the book comes out.

Support all the way to iOS. I am even trying to limit my google search products usage....i want to move to my iOS email id as my primary email too....tired of gmail.

Facebook, twitter, groupon, apple and microsoft/yahoo should kinda get together and dethrone Googles domination. I am sick of google buying every idea on the web or copying them, or trying to kill them...google as a whole should be brought down.....i think email and search business is something apple should somehow dive into.....Siri does have potential to become a full fledged search engine....lets see where it goes..

GO APPLE! Go Steve! :)

Stop blabbering and think for a second. Apple gave u mobileme and me.com for email. how did that turn out? Also Siri is not a search engine. it uses Wolfram Alpha and wikipedia to get its answers.
There is a reason why gmail is highly rated, its because it works and it works pretty well. It does have its share of annoyances but still its usable and not much better out there

He could have killed android if he allowed flash and made a new design instead of the iphone 4s. Not that it isn't a great phone, but it could have beat android in so many ways.

Blah... I would have bought it anyway - that goes with any Apple product. I've had Flash disabled on my Mac for years and barely notice it's even there, except when I turn it on and my fan kicks in... ;)

damn Steve was hardcore angry about this.

I don't think Android will be destroyed though. not... even... close.

how was he going to destroy android anyway?

"I'm going to destroy android!"
All Steve needed was a cat on his lap and he could have been the perfect villain in a James Bond movie. All you idiots should praise him for coming up with some great products, not for being vindictive as hell.

how long before google/android copy Siri? I think they already started working on it.

The problem for Google is they would make no money off of a Siri ripoff. Google makes all of its money by flooding people with ads when they do searches. If Google gave a person the answer right away then the user wouldn't have to click on the links that make Google money.

If Apple is able to combine Siri with Watson from IBM they would deliver a crippling blow to Google, turning it into the next Yahoo. Suddenly Google wouldn't have mountains of cash to throw at various side projects and Android could wither away. Jobs might well get his dying wish.

Apple makes Apple go, not competition. See the history for reference.

Yeah, wanting to stop a cheap, utilitarian, "just-barely-good-enough", glitchy, buggy, virus-ridden copy of something your company spent years and millions of dollars on...what a total dick.

/sarcasm

They didn't even copy all the good parts because it would have been too obvious. I absolutely HATED by G1. Cell reception was great and as a 'phone' it did all right. But it was the stupidest smart phone ever. Android just feels like a cheap, clunky iOS and the distances are growing with each release, especially with iOS5.

How's everyone enjoying the Notification Center?

This thread demonstrates yet again exactly why Apple is now like every other group and the days of Think Different are long gone.

There is nothing wrong with Android (especially in expanding the use of smartphones and telecom choice) and it has some neat ideas and functionality - as Apple just proved with the latest version of iOS. Anyone who doesn't see that and can't admit it is really not a voice worth listening to. It's the exact same attitude that Mac users encounter from Windows users, so essentially both groups are now comprised of the exact same type of people. Thank you mainstream.

I've used Macs since the 80's and that doesn't stop me using Windows or Android. In fact it's thanks to Windows that the Mac has the longevity it does, because when Apple adopted PC hardware standards during the 90's it meant creative Apple users could take PC parts and fill the tech gaps that Apple didn't want to fill. Taking great PC parts and flashing them for Mac use was one of the things that extended the life of Apple's lackluster hardware in lieu of Apple support.

I love all technology and I love Apple products, but to paraphrase Sloan - "it's not the product I hate, it's their fans" - and threads like this just reinforce that.

If anyone still thinks different to the typical internet crowd, please raise your hand. There aren't many of us left.

i never had a me.com id before, but who is asking you to stop using your beloved gmail? go ahead and use it! i am looking for an alternative, and its definitely a good business idea to roll out some mailing client, yahoo is either going private or merging with some other company sooner or later, there would be lots of folks looking for a new mail provider....Apple can step up their game...gmail is fast, that's all i like about it...to each his own, i would love to make my @me.com address as my primary personal email id...
