Full Laptop Refresh By Holidays?

Ugh! Another Tuesday waiting for a silent C2D MPB update... God how do I get suckered into this every Tuesday? :confused:

I cannot wait for the no MBP update Wednesday hangover! :p

What are the speed's sitting in the store though? I'm just curious if anyone knows for fact, and what the options are. Like of 5 Sony's available, 3 have C2D and 1 was above 2GHz, etc. It's that 2GHz mark that makes the difference, as the L2 cache doubles.

Since Apple already has 2GHz CD's in the line up, I can't personally see them droping back below that mark.

Yes, everyone else has them and has for some time. The (possibly) major exception is Lenovo, who picked up IBM's line of PCs, as they announced the upgrade the other day but aren't shipping them yet.

Some lines will only configure up to 2GHz, depending on the model, while others go to 2.33, usually not changing the ship date. Apple is definitely way behind. I've definitely decided to wait for the upgrade and buy from them, though =\ Just a basic processor swap and I will be happy.

Edit, I wish I just bought one back in the summer also =( Too late now!

Yes but in how many quantities? I'd bet the actual shipping TODAY or same-day-pickup in a B&M store C2D laptops are the very high end and expensive laptops....I bet today's Yonah shipments outnumber the Merom shipments 10 to 1.

They're not even offered under most configs anymore, except one or two options in bottom of the line notebooks... So I doubt it :)

Last years powerbook update announcement was on October 19 a WEDNESDAY in the AFTERNOON Crappertino time!!!!!
I believe about the same the year before, if someone knows fill us in.

The afternoon update was only because the PowerBook update was announced at an event, some photography one if I recall correctly. The Apple online store always is updated between 6am and 9am Cupertino time UNLESS the update is announced at an event, in which case the update happens during the event.
 
2s-day

So today has come and gone...I don't know why, but I really didn't get my hopes up this week like I have the past month, just didn't think it was going to happen.

I think each approching week, up until Nov 21st, we will have a greater chance of a release. However, if Nov 21st comes around w/ no update...then we will have to wait until MWSF.

The good part about all this, the more we wait, the more they are working to fix any problems associated with the MBP; and for ME, that is enough reason to wait until it is ready.

(My AlBook and CD mini will get me by in my times of need ;) )

After a quick glance at Dell.com, it seems you are correct about the configuration. However, none of them will ship for more than a week.

Glancing at Best Buy's website of notebooks that are available for store pickup, half or less are Merom.

We all hope this is true, and hopefully they will also slash the prices a bit or widen the gap between MB and MBP. :eek:

I really think the C2D shortage has been exagerated. You can go into Best Buy TODAY and walk home with a C2D Sony, HP or other brand laptop. Dell have been shipping lots of C2Ds, and many people received their C2D Dells weeks ago. So what if the Dell website says C2Ds ordered today will ship in a week, they also say non C2D laptops will ship in a week. Basically, whether you buy a Dell C2D or a Dell CD they are both expected to ship at the same time.

So where's the shortage? There are hundreds of thousands of C2D laptops in shops RIGHT NOW that you can buy and go home with TODAY. Those that are selling C2Ds online are showing standard ship times regardless of whether the laptop you order has a C2D in it or not.

Exactly, and if a product misses that...it's (most likely) not going to be available for the holiday season.

Hence...MacWorld SanFran in Jan.

As long as you up the RAM yourself (since there RAM is almost twice as expensive as most places), I don't see an issue with the price.

I guess I'm just willing to pay for what I want...but PCs can get damn expensive too, but they all look so UGLY!
 
Windows User Takeover

For about the last two weeks I have silently been reading all of your insight into the new macbooks that are supposedly going to be released. As of now I am a sad windows user who is busting at the seems to switch. I have about 1500 dollars to spend and want to get the best deal possible. I hate to do this but I would like any advice. Should I buy the Macbook $1299 right now or wait for the updates? Does anybody have any idea what the specific updates are? What the hell is happening right now... I am so confused...my computer is about to crash...

HELP ME...

No one has any idea what or when the updates will happen. I'm waiting because I want the MacBook Pro, but for the MacBooks you may be better off just getting one. If you do, you may want to get it refurb so you're not really overpaying for your processor. What I'm really saying is... escape these forums while you can! :p

I think the shortages go to the 2.16 and 2.33 processors. Every store I've gone into that is selling C2D right now is maxing out at 2.0. Since this is where the stock MBP is currently, a speed bump would be logical and therefor have to wait for the higher speed processors. I don't recall where I read it but Intel makes significantly less of their top of the line processors as most of the market doesn't need that much power.

Also, visiting Dell's website, Inspirons are only custumizable to 2.16. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=E1705RFC1&s=dhs That ships out the 25th. However, the 2.33 is only available with their XPS systems and all of those don't ship until early next month. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=M1710R2&s=dhs So IMO, Apple isn't too far behind.

You will be very happy with the MB, get it.
No need to wait for the update, especially if what you're looking for is a good deal; just find one, and go for it!

(Refurb, Student Discount...etc...)

C'mon people...You were really expecting it today ? No...
From the "rumors" heard now and then it was pretty sure it wouldn't happen today...
I don't expect anything to happen til october 31st!
October 24th could be it but obviously won't !
All I hope is that the shortage is not just due to back-to-school high demand...
Waiting since july, i'd be xtremely disapointed if they come up with just a swapped proc...
It's funny when you type "merom macbook" in google how many sites expected it for august, september, etc ... There was like a big hype on the net in august / september and now it seems everyone has given up...

You know it can be quite an event in a life since my next laptop is the work-tool that I need to become "professional" in music. I was ordered a live performance that I can't provide without a strong portable. It was due to happen in october during "fashion week" and hopefully was delayed back til middle november...I'm really in the middle of something since a release october 31st would be just what I need tobe ready in time but I'm playing with fire...
Otherwise I would have bought this nice "dell precision m65" but I'm tied to apple since I've bought an ADC student account...
Like my story ?
