They're not even offered under most configs anymore, except one or two options in bottom of the line notebooks... So I doubt it :)

Yep. And Apple will have to release C2D MB and MBP systems soon or they won't be able to get enough CPUs to meet demand. Intel has already cut Yonah production by a significant percentage, can't remember what but I think it's about 40% with more cuts to come after the first of the year.

OTOH, if Apple is the only major system vendor still using Yonah come January, there will probably be plenty for them to use. :D

After a quick glance at Dell.com, it seems you are correct about the configuration. However, none of them will ship for more than a week.

Glancing at Best Buy's website of notebooks that are available for store pickup, half or less are Merom.

You're not looking at it right. Even if Dell has all the parts in-stock to assemble a system, it still won't ship for a week. This is Dell and unless it says ships in 3 to 5 weeks, there is no parts delay. Dell ships more CTO systems (all their systems are CTO) in a single day than Apple ships in 60 days.

As for best buy, you're comparing stock levels at a consumer retail store that tailors their PC offerings to the lowest denominator of PC buyer. Most of their systems are complete packages for $1500 or less with a free printer. But I've been in my local Best Buy twice in the last couple weeks and both times they have had 2.33GHz Merom notebooks available.

The good part about all this, the more we wait, the more they are working to fix any problems associated with the MBP; and for ME, that is enough reason to wait until it is ready.

(My AlBook and CD mini will get me by in my times of need ;) )

That's a big presumption, centered on putting good "faith" in Apple's benevolence. They're simply tied up with marketing schemes and timelines is all. If they're "fixing" anything, it's their spreadsheets and projected Q1 profits increased exponentially b OCD-diagnosed buyers ready to jump at the chance of tithing our monies to Jobstown.

read the past 3,000 some odd posts and you will find an answer. Heck, even the past dozen or two. Apple will release the products when they feel good and ready.

I really think the C2D shortage has been exagerated. You can go into Best Buy TODAY and walk home with a C2D Sony, HP or other brand laptop. Dell have been shipping lots of C2Ds, and many people received their C2D Dells weeks ago.
Dell and Sony don't have the Apple issue where when Apple announces a new laptop, tens of thousands of people place an order within MINUTES of the announcement.

It's one thing to slowly roll a new product out to the market. I can guarantee you that my local Best Buy doesn't have more than 10 of any C2D laptop in stock, and that stock will last them at least a week, if not longer. It's a totally different thing to put a product out that will fly off the shelves. I can also guarantee you that if Apple announced the C2D laptops today, my local Apple store would sell at least 25 ... just today.

Apple majorly pissed a lot of people off by announcing the MacBook Pro early and then bounced back the delivery date. I'm quite surprised that some forums members here didn't have a stroke. ;) I f they have adequate quantity of the C2Ds when they announce their new product, I don't blame them one bit for taking so long or saying nothing about them until they were ready to ship.

Let's kill it

Come on guys, lets just kill this thread. No one has anything of worth to post anymore other than "I'm dissapointed they didn't release them today, I hope they will arrive next Tuesday." Like most people here, I've been waiting since September and not willing to get a Yonah MBP for the same price it was selling at back in Feb. 2005. Ridiculous. And I don't want a refurb "deal." Apple is really lucky it has people like us who put up their game and never switch back to Windows. While I have considered getting a cheapo C2D laptop and running Ubuntu for a year, in the long run this will just make me less productive and I'd rather be using OS X. So, we all can agree it will be by the Holiday shopping season (otherwise Jobs has gone senile) and lets just drop it for now. No more free hype for Apple, they won't see a single dollar from me until MBP go Merom. Period. Apple, I am not buying up your old Yonah MBP stock, you hear!?!

No one has any idea what or when the updates will happen. What I'm really saying is... escape these forums while you can! :p

do ya think maybe this is limbo and in the real world C2DMBP's were released just after we all died?

I would say that a wednesday is just as likely as a tuesday given the history of announcements over the past year. Next wednesday, the 25th has great potential -- it's the day after all the mail-in rebate promotions at Amazon and other dealers, as well as most current Apple promotions expire. After that, I would say tuesday 10/31 or wednesday 11/1 both make perfect sense for an announcement. Wednesday 11/22 (day before Thanksgiving) would essentially be the holiday release deadline. If they don't have them shipping by then, then we probably won't see anything until MWSF. I suppose they could release between then and the end of the year if the product just slips... But I would say 11/22 is D-Day for Apple... Even if they have to take pre-orders for a few days or a week or so, they will have to make their move by then if they want to catch holiday shoppers.

The holiday shopping release is even more important by a huge degree if they'll be releasing an updated Macbook in addition to MBP.

UK and US stores are coming up fine for me here...

and then read War and Peace, and by then maybe they'll release new MBP's

Good one! :)

I think you meant to say, "...and by then they'll have released new MBPs."
Oddly enough, I happen to have taught that "will have" (future perfect) thing no more than 4 hours ago. And you don't need the apostrophe in "MBP's" since it's a plural, not a contraction or a possessive.
Since there is not much to say about the Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and MacBook release, I might as well correct some grammar. :D

Who cares? The Divine Comedy was fiction, and damn good fiction at that. Updated MBPs is fiction as well. Why would Apple update a piece of hardware when they are making so much profit off of each one and there are thousands of ignorant Apple fanboyz/girlz that still think its the best damn computer money can buy?

At least it helps MS keep people from switching to the dark side.

Ok, I see your point about the release of a new mb and mbp. But really, think about it. All of us who are speculating about them only represent about .001% of the mac population and ones who want a mac. Most people will buy a mac when they can afford one or when they need one. Some don't even know what merom or core2duo is. They see the 5x faster sign and there you go, thats all they see. Yes we all want a merom macbook pro or macbook, but it won't be much of a speed increase. Some of us have already bit the bullet because they were tired of waiting to purchase a mac. What does that say? They want it for OS X, what it's really about. Not for it's processor, or incremental increase of speed.

What I'm trying to say is that it's not going to affect Apple's holiday sales as much as you think it will. Wait til' MWSF and we all will get what we want with all heat issues solved probably. Whatever they release at MWSF is going to be groundbreaking I'm sure of it. I'm willing to wait as long as it takes. The longer the better......but not too long.

You're right, we're the minority here... I think most of us know that. :D

I know that waiting to release won't hurt sales for Apple. I'm looking at it from the point of view of them boosting sales. An updated MB/MBP release in time for holiday shoppers is just one more positive marketing point that even casual Mac buyers will noticed. Because "New and Improved!" looks real nice next to a 5X faster sign too. :)
