I can't see anything on their spec page about a "new easy-access" HD bay...but then I don't know that this would be something that they would list. Anyone familiar with the MacBook spec page? Do they list an easy-access HD bay as one of it's specs? I feel impending disappointment here...

They don't mention easy access HD drive on the MacBook page though and that does have it. However, I think these new MBPs will have the same difficult to get to hard drive, as the enclosure hasn't been redesigned.

well, i took the plunge and just ordered my first mac. i got the c2d mbp 15.4". looking forward to opening it up and finding out why people are so fanatical over the mac os.

it's been fun!

Not a new enclosure

I just finished looking at the Apple photo gallery of the new C2D MBP 15" and as far as I can tell the case is the same as the CD release. This raises several questions:

1) Has the heat issue been addressed?

2) As this release was _silent_ and basically only included a processor bump and the re-introduction of the FW800 port on the 15", can we expect a full blown new design at MWSF?

Sopranino (Happy that my previous predictions have proved to be wrong)

this is my first mac too...took the plunge and said the heck with it...i messed with osx86 on my thinkpad and i was like..i gotta get the real thing.

did you guys go with the standard shipping or express?

2.16. c2d 120gb w 1gb ram at 1799 for an edu purchase... OR
2.16 cd 100gb 1gb ram and a 256m x1600 for 1599...

Yes, it is an older build.

64 Bit?

Ok, so I know Core 2 Duo is 64 bit and not to bring anyone down but....

Has anyone noticed that unlike the iMac pages, the new MacBook Pro C2D pages have no claims to being 64 Bit?

Hmmm....interesting...

I'll probably be buying soon...I've been carrying around a 20" iMac G5 in an "iLugger" case like a freakin idiot....I'm glad this day is finally here. But I'm always suspicious of big buys like a computer.

Thanks Zic...

I figured it was there somewhere...

but it's funny that they don't really hype it up like on the iMac page with all the "64 Bit" references and icon.

I'm trying to order, but in the Netherlands you can choose between
Dutch of Engl/int keyboard.

I'd prefer the US, with the \ above the enter and the ~ above the tab. That is not available in the Netherlands. I don't know what the difference is. I think, looking at other apples. That the Eng/int keyboard has the \ next to the large sized enter and the ~ next to the shift. (by heart)

Anyone knows the difference?

Also the Eng/int does not have a delete, but only a backspace.

Anyone have info or knows where I can find this?

Cheers

Peter

erm...no 7200 RPM Drive option for 15"?? *scratches head in confusion*

I wanna order the glossy option but i'm scared. What if something goes...that means no replacement just endless repairs

English keyboard is as you say, but has both forward & back delete keys. Only the octothorpe key is a nuisance, which is alt+3 (& really should be printed on the keyboard like the Euro symbol is)

I'll walk down to my local apple store first thing when I woke up tomorrow and stand (or sit) there for one hour playing with both the glossy and matte screen. Thus I will decide later.
Girlfriend of mine complained about glossy screen being not good for long hours work since she used it at work (especially someone like me who stared at a computer my whole time)

She said it's a Dell brand. I insisted that Apple is better, but I am really feeling in doubt now =(

suwandy. at the same resolution, it is the same screen by the same manufacturer probably. Either that or its CM vs another producer with the exact same specs (which are all probably made in the exact same plant with samsung or cm electronics attached later)

Glossy screens were invented by a demon, they should never have seen the light of day.

Yes, but me and Satan love our glossy screens. The colors are a bit more vibrant due to the higher reflective nature, which admittedly can make it a little more troublesome for serious print and color work. I think for general use the glossy is more pleasing... Works better in high ambient light or outdoors (tried that yesterday since it was such a nice day and it was being discussed in the forum). Glossy screens in areas where they can catch reflections can be a real @!^&# though compared to the matte screen.

Yeah that might be a clue that Macbooks are coming too.

Or it could be that the page advertises both the old macbooks and the new macbook pros...hmmm:)

They're here!

They're finally here! Now, my only problem is with RAM. It would be real nice to max out the 2.33 15.4" MBP but is it cheaper to get that 2GB module installed by Apple or buy somewhere else? With other size modules, this would be a no brainer, but the 2GB still has a pretty high price tag. Does anyone sell those for under $600? I'm estimating since they remove a 1GB stick that is around $150. Anyone know? I guess I can wait for the prices to drop but we've all been waiting since August for these damn things I'm tired of it. I'm going to purchase through the ADC, so I can now afford to max it out through Apple but would perfer a less expensive alternative.

and to think i was annoyed when my phone started freaking out with my friend on the other end yelling, "WAKE UP! THEY'RE HERE!"

do you think they'll be in stores?

Getting through to Apple is tough today... Been hung up on once already and on hold for 14 minutes now... Ah well, it is worth the wait right?
Yes! (rhetorical) :D

Just bought the 2.33 MacBook Pro: this new configuration is really more than I expected. And I added a 160 GB hard drive.

Today's surely the best day of all this year...

Not really worth it for me. In general, I prefer to wait until it's not quite so busy in situations like these. That way I can actually do something fun or useful with that time.
