This may seem off topic but......

...does anyone know when in october that the new shuffles will be shipping?

I'll explain the relevance.

If the new shuffles are released in mid or late october in sure Steve Jobs would have said mid or late october when they were announced at the Showtime Event.

So im assuming early to mid is when they will be released.

I say this because being the 1st October today i would assume that the store would be updated in the next few days with a shipping estimate like '24hrs' or '10 days' at the latest.

So MY POINT FINALLY

If the the store is updated, say, tomorrow with a shipping estimate for shuffles then i dont see a MB or MBP update for a week or two.

If on the other hand the store isn't updated soon then i would assume that they will just update shuffle shipping when they update for C2D updates?

These, of course, are all assumtions and conjecture but i thought i would throw it to the lions and see if it comes out walking?

Pesimism by generik

Who says that his post isnt genuine, we all know to take post like this with a grain of salt as there is no solid proof that its true but have some hope, even if it is blind!

Why would the update of shuffle shipping times affect the MBP releases?

People are not going to go to the store, say "Oh cool! New $50 shuffle! Oops, I forgot what I was here for, specifically a $1999 item"

You missed my point completely!

Would apple update the store to modify the 'OCTOBER' shipping date for the new shuffles to a more specific time, only to update the store again a few days later for the new MBs or MBPs??

I just passed by Apple HQ in Cupertino today...all I could think about was our MBP's :( I hope they are coming out soon guys, we've all been waiting so long. Don't worry, I prayed that we'd get them this week, so keep your fingers crossed :)

The shipping estimates are dynamically updated based on data from Apple's supply chain. They've likely used a simple script to control the "Ships: October" text. So, unfortunately, I don't see any relationship between what you've mentioned and MBPs or MBs.

OARN, according to HardMac.com, MBPs in London have been discounted by 220 to 300 euros, possibly to make way for new notebooks. HardMac.com Link

Thank you for clearing that up, thats exactly why i put it to the masses. Ruling out a rumor is almost as good as having one proven.

Why not?

Apple pays the people running the web store a salary you know, they are not just there for Tuesdays! Hell if it is such an easy job I'd work there for even half minimum wage.

Core 3 Duo & Quad Premiere Near End of 2008

It's quite clear what's going on:

Apple will get Core 3 Duo so soon, it doesn't seem worth putting Core 2 Duo into production :D
I know you're kidding, but just so newbies know, Core 3 Duo & Quad will premiere toward the end of 2008.

Hope a new design brings such a monstrosity to its end!

you and i both. even my 7 year old thinkpad allows the hard drive to be swapped within minutes. 1 screw and it pulls right out. schitty design by apple, IMO. luckily they moved in the right direction with the mb. let's hope they do the same with the new mbp.

I believe the new aluminum Shuffles, complete with FREE one 38 character line engraving for only $79, ship in October.

No sarcasm intended.

I honestly had no idea that replacing the hard drive on an MBP was such a nightmare. That's crazy! Especially for a part that has such a high susceptibility to failure.

totally. hard drives are pretty much the first thing to fail any any computer, whether it be a notebook, desktop, or server. it's so freakin stupid that apple designed the notebooks this way. it has NEVER made sense to me...sometimes design over function is just plain dumb. this is a perfect example. seems like they finally figured it out with the macbook though.

Why not? The mods are done offline anyway, and just put up at the appropriate time. Bear in mind the web staff just do what they're told.

Funny you should say that. While I agree in general that's accurate, it's not been true for me.

In nearly 20 years, I've only had a couple actually die, despite my machines getting a helluva lot of use, and one of those was one of the infamous IBM "deathstar" drives. The other, a 40MB Quantum SCSI disk, waaaay back. Even then, it wasn't totally dead, it'd just stop spinning... and tapping it would start it again... close enough that it was retired... :)

you've been blessed, my friend. i order, configure, deploy, and repair pc's for a living. i can truthfully say the number 1 failing component is the hard drive. you should see the stack of bad hard drives i have...

I worked taking care of unix servers for years -- FreeBSD/x86 and SPARC/Solaris mostly -- and the failure rate there, now... :)
It's the kit I owned that was blessed <G>

For the SPARC kit at least, the support contract from Sun takes care of us.

Stands to reason tho' -- mechanical parts wear out...

yup, tru dat. can't wait for this flash based memory to start getting bigger and bigger. soon, the OS will run strictly on flash memory. and then everything can run on flash memory. and THEN flash memory can take over the WORLD!

sorry, got carried away.
