Well, I doubt this means much, but even if you go and order a Core 2 Duo notebook from Dell, the earliest ship date I can get is 10/11/2006...

But why they can ship Core 2 Duo iMacs and not Core 2 Duo MBPs?

I will be super surprised if we are still waiting past Thanksgiving - November 23.
But perhaps there are orders in the pipeline.
So, Steve let us see what you have in your pipeline or is it desiccated.
Or is it all about the marketing?

What you think?
Is Apple going to be a musiccompany, a movie reseller or a dedicated mp3 player producer. Its very strange that the ipod/iTMS takes it all over and earnings so many billions $. It was a really good look in the future and a good coup. But isn´t it somewhat boring. Is it all about earning more money than Bill Gates? Wasn´t there something beyond.
Wasn´t it what´s next?
So, what next?

A friend went out today to do exactly the same thing at his university. Turns out that they're out of stock. The guy at the store told him to come back next week for an even better deal. Currently they're selling the 15" 2.16Ghz CD for a couple hundred less than EDU pricing.

No idea what it means.

I think I'll just get a MBP later today - and help reduce the stocks for all you guys, resulting in a quicker introduction of MMBPs. You see how nice I am?

Doesn't mean much

Yeah, I called a few local Apple stores, all seem to have "plenty" of MBPs in stock. My university is still selling MBPs for what they were selling for 2 months ago. So, the stock dwindling does not seem to be happening.

I think the delay is coming from a necessary internal redesign for heat issues. It will take time to get the lines switched over, so I'll bet we are in for at least another month's wait.

Yes but they won't cost any more than dual core does today.

My point wasn't economic -- it was that the masses won't notice, beyond a bullet point on the sales lit.

I figure the iMac will have to go Quad within 24 months, purely to keep up with that particular "arms race".

Having said that, it'd probably benefit the majority consumers more to stick with the C2D and cut the price. Will they? I doubt it.

I guess the other option is they stay C2D and pocket the extra... which ends up being the flip-side to your point. C2Q costs the same as C2D now -- but C2D then will cost quite a bit less -- and I don't expect to see Intel ramp down C2D like they are CD.

I think CD being replaced makes sense for a variety of reasons, not least Intel - and many other market players - want the systems out there to be 64bit. C2D will be 64bit. No doubt over time it'll first occupy the market segment that Allendale currently does, then move to where the Conroe-L (next Pentium/Celeron branded chip core) will be -- say 12-18 months time.

Apple's both a media retailer and a consumer electronics producre.

They're looking to new markets with iTV, the upcoming iPhone -- and the associated media market for both.

Once again, compared to MS, they have the advantage - both economic and technical - of supplying both sides, so to speak.

Not sure what you mean by it being boring?

As for "something beyond", for a few, probably. For most who have a real say in operation, probably not -- IMO, of course.

Hey

I ordred a MB last thuesday (28. sept.), the estimated shipping day is 4. october, and estimated delevery date is 17. october.

that is a pretty long shipping time, could that be because a new macbook is coming?

Could be, could just be Apple being pessimistic -- they often are if there's a potential delay, it seems.

yeah, but still. back when i ordred my powerbook the delivery time was 1. day. then why schould it be 13 now?

i called them earlyer, and they came with a lame talk about, making the computer in china, and long delivery because it was build from the ground. then i asked what that had to do whit the delivery time, and the nice lady couldnt answer.. :)

if the update doesn't happen by thanksgiving it's probably safe to say that mwsf will have what we want. Possibly with NAND and Santa rosa this is what i'm hoping for. If they release one now i think they will take a while to update to santa rosa. Santa rosa isn't that big of a deal to me but i'd choose it over what we're hoping for right now if it's at mwsf

remember last year. There was an update in October for the PB and 3 month later or so the MBP comes out.

NAND Flash is part of Santa Rosa.

I doubt they'll have it ready for sale by MWSF tho'. It's possible they could announce it like they did the MBP last year but I doubt that, too, since it's a very different situation.

We'll probably never see a "true" Santa Rosa MBP, just as, if one were being pedantic, we've not actually seen a Napa MBP, but that's besides the point.

no sh** that nand flash is part of santa rosa, i think you've said it 3 times already ergle. of course, they're not going to adopt the full centrino platform but the nand will certainly be one of the features they will take. Also if nand flash is part of santa rosa, whey would you be saying that we'll never see a "true" santa rosa mbp, considering they already have adopted parts of the napa system. wouldn't they only take parts from the santa rosa system?

Because now's not then?

The "nice lady" can't answer because she's not au fait with everything that goes on internally that can have an effect... yes, including new upgraded systems.

However, if I were a betting man, I'd bet that your MB is Yonah.

Good luck with it being Merom tho' :)

Yet you keep insisting on posting about "NAND and Santa Rosa" so it ain't getting through ... ;)

i hope they do during the mac expo this month, since im gonna be there!@!!!!111

I'm a long time reader but this is my first post.
(Sorry for my frenchie style english)
I'm one of those who wait for the MMBP since my Alubook has died 4 months ago.
Just a message to give some hope to those who lost faith.
I can say that the Paris area 17 shops of the Apple's products french biggest supplier (called Fnac), is almost out of stock concerning MBP 15" 2.16.
Two of them have MBP availability, but 4 say they can't guaranteed any availability and 11 don't have any stock left.

I hope it means good news for the next few days !!!!!!

I too have been doing the rounds in Edinburgh and it seems that most retailers are down to their last few MacBooks and MBPs if they have any at all. My local Apple reseller, whos mac stock is always better than the high street stores, only has a couple BlackBooks left and they say they have no answer from Apple about when their stock will be replenished?

The guy in the store said its not about new machines but he said that with no prompting suggesting he either anticipated the question as he's heard a few time already or that he has been told not to let the cat out of the bag....?

At this point i can no longer speculate as to when or if there will be an update, but i do know that i wont be parting with any cash until there is one or by thanksgiving in USA. Whichever comes first.

Note: By this point im starting to think i would be happy with just a chip upgrade..... ...i hope not but the other potential updates (easy acces HD bay, mag latch, etc) just dont mean as much to me now.....
.....i think im losing it!

Also.... i heard somewhere that it was a holiday this past monday 2nd Oct in the US, any truth in that?

Yesterday's holiday was religious and not national. I don't believe that Apple stores observed it.

Yes, but do the staff at Apple Hq observe it?

Surely it would be company policy to honour workers whose religion had a holiday, and possibly therefor leading to a complete staff holiday.... ....a long shot i know!

What was yesterday?

I know next Monday is Columbus Day. Most places don't observe it.
