On the other hand I think Apple will do it the best way they can.
It´s all about the uncertainly situation.

Exactly... a simple statement from Apple such as "Don't worry - we haven't forgotten our mobile professional customers... we have some amazing products we are working on and will share them with you very soon... please be patient."

At for example WWDC, the store went down 10:00 a.m. Cali time (19 p.m. Danish:D ).

Another 57 minutes...

There is no way the site is being updated today. For all updates not tied to a keynote/event the update happens around 6am California time. The store went down at 10am Cali time for WWDC because that was an event and there was a keynote.

As there is no event today, there is no way the store will go down for updates this late in the day. Best to hope for an update on the 10th now.

Okay ladies and gentlemen, I need your opinion on the following ...

Would you buy an almost new MBP 2.16Ghz model for $2000USD ($2300CAD), no tax of course, or would you just wait and hope that the new low-end MBP will be bumped to 1gig ram, 100gig HD and 256meg video and then buy that for EDU price?

Any thoughts?!?!?!

Thanks

buy that outdated crappy MBP and leave us alone.
No, seriuosly
its said before
its a good offer until last month
and if there isn´t another possibility buy.
When you can wait wait.

Man, I remember when I bought my current G4 Powerbook - the Rev A 15" aluminum model. At WWDC they released the first aluminum 12" and 17" Powerbooks, so we all knew a 15" was coming. I read threads very similar to this one for MONTHS. "It has to be next Tuesday!" "What's Apple waiting for, this is rediculous!" "Retailer supplies are almost nonexistent, that means they'll be releasing imminently"

It was late September before they released the 15" model. :D

So keep having fun with this thread; but the forum consensus may have very little to do with reality.

Where Will Kentsfield Fit In The 2007 Mac Family?

I'm sure 4-core will surface in the consumer systems, but my guess is maybe 10% of users will notice -- most people just aren't doing anything that pushes dual core systems remotely, even...
Yes but they won't cost any more than dual core does today.
ergle2 said:
My guess is if the iMac is to go 4-core, it'll be after a major redesign. I have doubts about the heat -- which is my guess why it didn't get Conroe.
I didn't mean to imply I thought iMacs would go Quad any time soon. I meant there is an ever growing power hole in the Mac line for a headless Mac with more power than mini or iMac but less than the Mac Pro in the iMac price range.

The only thing I am curious about is, was it because it couldn't really handle it at all, or because it could but the design staff considered the fan too loud?

Or was it just a drop-in replacement job for most models and that's why it's Merom for now... (does anyone know if the mobo for the 17/20 models was redesigned?)

I'd guess at the fan-too-loud theory personally but all seem reasonable...
I think a redesign is in the works perforating all the edges of the iMac in 2007 that will lead to a much cooler interior as Apple takes the iMac into power territory above Merom's foreseeable future.

Sorry to see we must discuss another week. :(

And exactly how would that be of any help - it provides NO information? We need C2D laptops - not corporate dribble.

Ok man, what´s your opinion. What is "the reality"? Wait until late September?
That´s over.
Thank you.

When you can wait wait.

I can wait a few more weeks, nothing is too urgent ... just wanted to see if this is a good deal at this stage :)

That may be true... but Apple was only really competing with itself back then... it's not like they didn't have a 15'' model at all to compete with the PC's... and you couldn't directly compare them due to PowerPC vs x86.

It's now a direct comparison, and Apple is starting to slip. If Lenovo announces the Thinkpad series with Core2Duo (the last major holdout)... then Apple has really fallen behind.

I understand you. It sounds like a good deal. But if tomorrow there is a new MMBP with swapable HD etc. then it wasn´t a good deal. When the swapable thing is so difficult that it tooks until MWSF in 3 month than it was a very good deal. That is the problem in the moment and like you see, nobody knows something.

Disign Changes Don't Correlate With New OS Releases

longsilver said:
Isn't it likely that any refresh now is just going to be a relatively minor one and that anyone who can wait a while should? That is, the release of Leopard is likely to be accompanied by much more significant redesigns of hardware, cosmetically at the very least. The MBP's form factor is not hugely different from the PowerBook's, and the PowerMac/MacPro is basically the same case.

Is that over-optimistic? Anyone know the history on hardware redesigns at the time of or very soon after major OS upgrades?
Yes I do. No correlation. This upcoming MBP will have redesign to accomidate easy access HD Bay and better ventilation. It will be Pre-Designed to accommodate Santa Rosa as well. MB is already a total redesign of the iBook so it will look identical to the current MB.

I know it seem too long now, but it's only 27 days since the C2D iMacs were released. So let's not anyone here give up the faith that C2D MB & MBP are a work in process that will surely be delivered to us upon thine alter of happiness, joy and utilitarian value in the next 28 days or so. :p That will be a fun Apple trick and treat delivered by Halloween for all of us.

But you are right.
We should shut down this thread. Enjoy the daylight and find together when the day is coming.

..to be earnest I got bored of this topic;)) i have been waiting for new MBP since iMac update; money prepared:) ...and nothing...

Well I have to buy a MacBook now. Impossible to wait another week... I won't be here. Lame lame lame!

The best stopgap deal is the $949 1.83GHz Combo MacBook on Apple's SAVE page. It will have a pre-owned resale value of $800-$949 anytime in the next 6 months.

But who wants to go through the hassle when Apple's going to release new MBPs on the 10th? ;)
