My local Apple store has 'zero' MBP's or MB's. And they are not getting any more in until next week.

They are also currently selling their display MB and MBP Models with €200 off the cost price.

Good news is coming This day week :). Or on the 7th/8th when the student promotion finishes up. Id put money on next Tuesday tho.

Maybe they are just going out of business. Are they selling the furniture too?

hehe, why do you think that?

I gave in

I've been watching this, and other related (wonder if that photokina one died yet?) threads for some time now and I've reached my breaking point. Can't wait any more. I just purchased my white MacBook along with a Hitachi Travelstar 5K160 160GB hard drive with plans to order 2GB of RAM very shortly. For what I do (design and web/Flash development) this will be perfect. And when Leopard comes around, if I need to, I'll sell it off, suck it up and take the loss, and get a new 64-bit laptop. Until then, take care of yourselves, and those of you more committed to waiting than me, hang in there!

Enjoy it my friend... I'm sure you will.

Ah, of course.

Even less observed than Columbus Day, I think...

Unless you are Jewish. Is Columbus Day abserved by Columbians? No mail on Columbus Day, some schools are out.

Most retail stores only close 3 days per year: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.

Indeed -- but in the US, most people aren't Jewish. Of my friends who are, I don't think any are religious as such, so I figure the overall numbers are pretty low as a percentage of the total population.

Columbus day started as an Italian-American thang.

I know several offices that close Columbus days, and so do quite a few banks.

Granted, anecdotal isn't evidence...

HAHA... i can just hear the music * dun dun dun * Another one bites the dust-a! * dun dun dun * .. and another one gone, and another one gone...

So, just how does one purchase a MacBook?

What's thanksgiving?

I tried to buy a Black Book in the airport today. Totally sold out. Not one available in the UK! Nor white. Nor MBP. Amazing. The assistant helpfully asked me if I'd like something that's not Apple. Hmm.

So even if I've finally given in, I can't get out of this hell!

Hi all,

Well having come to the conclusion a few months back that I needed to get mobile again for my work that I do outside of my main employment work time. Alas the jvc mini note book, PIII 800 with 256mb of ram just wasn't/isn't going to cut it any more, so I began to think differently.

Spoke to people, decided upon a macbook pro, dispose of office desktop and pizza box test server and just be a sole machine with nas units for heating.

Then somebody said wait, new chip coming out and here I as many of you are. Stuck in a badly coded for loop on macrumors.

Although I'm still not certain why I'm waiting, it's sure as heck not for the chip, but maybe the design changes and because a great number of people say wait fool...well I'm not a fool but I do need to get a machine in place and up before my next round of travelling come up.

Tomorrow is another day and a few people have posted that the present mbp is outdated and expensive, I beg to differ, my works t42 just bsod'd for the last time, so I went off looking for replacement specs...some make the mbp look well priced and certainly very current. Although fully aware c2d options exist, given the mbp was more before against cd, it's going to be more against c2d, it's a moot point anyway, it's worth whatever it's worth.

Uk prices...
http://uk.insight.com/apps/productp...cm_mmc=Froogle-_-YA-_-LEN-_-IB845444&src=FRO1

...more for less there, and if using a bespoke builder, rockdirect there similar machine is a bit less for about the same, hd size, screen, memory, slighly better vid card maybe...but:
XCTX-T2700 standard features:
Intel Core Duo T2700 2.33GHz / NVIDIA GeForce 7900 Go GTX 512MB / WSXGA+ X-Glass rock logo / 1GB DDR2 667MHz (512MB x2) / 100GB 7200rpm SATA / No Second HDD / 8x +/- Dual Layer DVD Writer / No TV Tuner / No 2nd Battery / Windows XP Home / Roxio, BullGuard, Works, Office Trial / Pixel check option not taken

for 1600 is not that different from the 17" mbp price point, so 300ish gbp to run mac os/x ;).

So here I am it's raining, looking at this 24" screen and wondering, why do I need a laptop again and would a plain jane macbook do the job when out on the road and maybe sell this 24" screen and get an iMac...so I called apple line and asked them, of course we know how that went.

I called another retailer who said he had 1 17" mbp left, but was expecting more in and didn't think they would be any different.

Back to the apple line, they mentioned that if I ordered now and a new mbp was due within 14days they would delay my order.

I'm not fussed if I get this one or the next one, I can change the hd if it packs up after 3 years, 10% inc in cpu is lost after 3 months anyway, 64bit is a fad, 128bit was available in the 70's and sideburns were fashionable at least twice as I remember.

I would love to know if in n weeks an update was coming, I'm new to apple and it's ways. I like to know I'm buying something that won't be 300 pounds cheaper tomorrow for no sensible reason. I'm sure I'll adapt or die to this way, but as a "switcher" it's an annoyance as I wanted to be enjoying a mac 3 months ago, now I feel a fool for not sticking to the jfdi rule.

I'm certain an update will come, as to what it is and what it holds; who knows. I'm now off to weigh up an macbook as my t60 arrives tomorrow for work and that will double up nicely with a debian linux for the hotels when I'm bored and need to crunch code/gimp...So what, but for one fateful chat be a done deal I find myself assessing excatly what I want the machine to do, this is not such a bad thing afterall.

As an aside the loss we talk of in psuedo obsolete hardware is in my mind a folly. We lose the price of a laptop in a new car, we in the uk lose this much in fuel taxes, the cost of IT gear always falls; unless it's memory and september.

If only I'd not read this great site, the flip is I know considerably more before I open the box about macs than I did 3 months ago, like procare and software to go and find/buy when whatever mac arrives on my desk and I know when the mbp update does come I'll still be toying over an imac, so I can enjoy it then :)

sorry for rambling on, alas I have no new os to explore :D

That's what I'm hearing around here too.

Oddly enough a bunch of folks .mac accounts are renewing next week too.

One guy said that an Apple store kid was just about to jump out of his skin while telling him repeatedly, "come back next week." Either high on caffeine or there is some minor hope for next week.

I'm waiting. Here's to hoping next week. Today would have been nice since it's my birthday.. but I can (and will) wait.

Thanksgiving

Seem to be plenty here in the States. Maybe there are plenty, but supplies are running low. . .

Thanksgiving is a holiday in America -- it's basicly a harvest celebration.

I ordered my white one from the online UK store, and they seem to be fine with shipping them ... but then the online store ships them from Cork so it doesn't realy count as "in the uk".

They have got to change that frontpage sometime... Its like a month old now and getting very boring. lol.

Multimedia is probably the most optimistic forum poster ever

Yes I do. No correlation. This upcoming MBP will have redesign to accomidate easy access HD Bay and better ventilation. It will be Pre-Designed to accommodate Santa Rosa as well. MB is already a total redesign of the iBook so it will look identical to the current MB.

I know it seem too long now, but it's only 27 days since the C2D iMacs were released. So let's not anyone here give up the faith that C2D MB & MBP are a work in process that will surely be delivered to us upon thine alter of happiness, joy and utilitarian value in the next 28 days or so. :p That will be a fun Apple trick and treat delivered by Halloween for all of us.

you are always so optimistic, actually thats the reason i stay here! I just found out that I don't need my new laptop for school until next fall and i figure there is going to be some really great things out by then (for sure the redesign, and maybe that "true video" iPod!) so I am holding out. I think I am going to buy a Powerbook G4 from a friend....though I am looking at these refurb Mac Mini's and iMacs with the Core Solo to get my by until then. Any suggestions?

Oh! and even though I am not going to be buying a C2D Macbook Pro, I'm still going to be doing the "next tuesday" thing with you guys! Here's to hoping for next tuesday as this one is passing rapidly!!

Note that in the US, Thanksgiving is a HUGE holiday. Arguably as big as Christmas in some ways.

Rather different from "Harvest Festival" in the UK :)

Macworld's Big Announcement?

Let's say CD2 Macbooks come out today. What would Steve's big announcement at Macworld be? He doesn't need CD2 laptops, does he?

If he does, Apple are screwed. Merom's nice, but it's not THAT big, and the PC world's already beat Apple to it, so...

What's the possibility that the Merom MBP's may have been ready sooner, but were pulled due to being behind "the other guys?" After all, Dell is offering a wireless 802.11n card now. What if, and it's a really big if, Apple only had their usual card and had to send the machines back to get upgraded?
Apple really does have to compete on all levels now.

Nah, of course not. He probably already has one, and is lurking on this thread from time to time with a big grin.

Ahhh... the irony.

Not today? OK, I can wait.

Point being though... I don't want to!

One thing that is quite odd is the fact that many pc laptop makers keep pushing their ship dates back... at least for the 2.33 C2D... Alienware is now 10/19 and dell is 10/12.
