I've seen the same. Any idea on whether Intel has any speed bumps planned for November, in which case I'd wonder if Apple is aiming to release a 2.66GHz at the top of MBP range?

I've seen nothing to suggest there will be. With Santa Rosa due 1Q07 according to some sources, and in a new socket, I'd figure that's when we'll likely see a speedbump.

I think Intel has enough trying to make enough 2.33GHz Meroms right now :)

my speculation:

MBP will be released, quite possibly NOT on a tuesday, in a "silent" update sometime between tomorrow and November 17th.

Thanks for narrowing it down.

Who's giving odds on the release tomorrow? ;)
(I'll pick 'not'...no reason, just not feelin' it.)

Hell, you can walk into Best Buy and walk out with a C2D laptop from a number of manufacturers today if you want. I really don't buy that there is a massive shortage of C2D chips.

True - I was just at BB today and played around with the Sony SZ330p/b. It has the T7200 chip... and for $2150, it was merely okay. Nice screen and it seemed pretty quick, but much heavier than I expected WITHOUT the freakin' battery installed (this was not the carbon fiber model)... and it felt cheap. When I picked it up with one hand it felt like I could twist the body of the notebook and snap the damn thing in half! Anyways, C2D is out there... and most of the CD notebooks were on clearance to make room for all of the new C2D models...

sarcastic noobs, my favorite kind. :)

my point is that i do not think it will be any event, expo, "press event" or anything like that. nor do i think it will necessarily be "next tuesday" as i think apple will start to move away from tuesday releases in the future. i do not think it will be at MWSF2007, nor do i think it will be after thanksgiving.

basically i think they are just going to sneak it in randomly, much like the MacBook release.

I would bet HEAVILY on the fact that it won't be released tomorrow...

Do you guys think that we will see a new form factor for the upcoming MBP update? Or is it "just" a speed bump?

I really need a Laptop where I can change the Harddisk easily (like it's possible with the MB for instance), so I hope for a new design, maybe tomorrow...

But what was the chip speed?

It's pretty reasonable to assume that the eventual release would be a 2.16 or 2.33, and maybe a 2.0 as an entry level.

The question, as ergle mentioned, is what's the available quantity/supply of the higher speed ranges for the chip?

I can't see them taking a step back below 2GHz, just to pony up the new chip.

People starting to do this everyday. Has it gotten that bad? It is usually "will it be next Tuesday?" but now it is "will it be tomorrow?" This is going (has gotten?) to get old fast.

One would say that maybe the reason everything is taking so long is becasue there is a new design on the herizon (swappable HD, etc.). But who knows?
At this point I just want something, so I can decided between a new or refurb.

It's the same for me. I can wait one more week. Then I HAVE to buy a book dut to universtiy starting next week.
I also intend to buy a MBP from the Apple refurbished Store so I don't have to do without a laptop until Apple finally sells MBPs with C2D-processors...

So I hope for tomorrow! ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm waiting for merom at the moment, but if the current models and/or refurbs are selling at fabulous prices, then who knows. It's all about having good variety and choice.

If, however, the MBP has a drastic new design, then that would change things for me...

He said T7200, so that makes it the 2GHz part.

I've seen a few of those around, but not much above it.

I just noticed that the C2D iMac was released on September 6, which was a Wednesday, the first Wednesday of the month FWIW, like tomorrow.

well, guys... i'm gonna order my 17" MBP right now... i can't wait... i need the comp to do my work, so one less MBP to dwindle down the stock... so whoever is waiting it out, more power to you :)

It was the Wednesday after Labor day tho' -- many think the reason it was Wednesday rather than Tuesday for that particular launch.

I just tried to configure a Mini with a 160GB hard drive and the estimated ship went from 24hrs to 4-6 weeks. Doesn't that seem a little strange for a simple hard drive swap:confused:

Maybe they need all of the 160GB drives for the new MBPs.
