Yes but the Mac will be going not "just a few faster". At 2.33GHz it will be going more than 145% 730MHz faster x 2 cores or 1.46GHz faster - 3.2GHz vs 4.66GHz - plus the Double Size 4MB L2 cache so I don't agree the MBP looks way overpriced.
Will be is they key to what you say here. Because, you know, Apple isn't selling what you're talking about here, they're selling a whole other machine for the same price.. And that IS overpriced.

Not sure how relevant, but John Lewis (big online / high street retailer; first place a lot of people go to buy expensive electrical equipment due to good customer service etc) is out of all MB and MBP lines except the 2.16 MBP and the white 2 MB. I'm gonna hang on....

EDIT to correct ridiculous spelling.

John Lewis might be big but they are completely rubbish at keeping up-to-date stock. Two months after the G5 iMacs came out my local John Lewis still had nothing but G4 iMacs. I've not been back since, as they are clearly useless for computing goods.

I hope so. It's all speculation, but going for 2 months into my 3rd year in colllege w/o my own computer really really sucks. Please don't keep me waiting much longer Apple, por favor!!!! :D

Now that is a serious shipping delay, now we're talking.

Okay, let's assume that the Merom's are, in fact, here and built. Let's assume that the MBP's are in very short supply.

Would apple auto-convert my order to a Merom if they release the new MBP's next week? Is that their M.O.?

Hehe, so much for the Intel + Mac "marriage", they started off b*tching abt Intel and now they're all over Intel. But then again, that's how real life works eh?:D   ;)

I'm REALLY surprised people don't remember this commercial!
I thought it was hallarious at the time!!!

My local John Lewis still has a few 12" G4 Powerbooks that they're selling at over GRAND!

Two Promos

Okay, not to push back the date, but two Apple promos both end on Monday October 16th. The $100 off printer rebate as well as the $30 off .mac.

Not that it mean a hill of beans, but hey, why not.

Finally - something to chew on!!!

Of course, we new this already

Apple prepares for Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro ramp

Clearing inventory is good!
Way to find Shadowx. This kind of breadcrumb is just what the doctor ordered. However the tone of the thing makes it feel like we still have more weeks to wait rather than days. C2D MacBook is looking like it will happen same time as MBP too. :)

That it is.

If there isn't a price change, they'll just send you the new version. They'll also bump up the spec's to their current offering as well, to match a similar level of what you ordered.

For example, you went with the upgraded HD and RAM. If the new stock HD is bigger, you'd get that instead, if the intial hd offer is the same, they would upgrade it repectively if the price was the same.

They won't back off the minimum you ordered, but it may increase.

If there is a price increase, they'll contact you to see whether you want the update, or what you ordered.

If the base options are equivalent to what you ordered, and cost the same, then they'd ship that.

At least that's been my experience so far, and it's happened to me twice. With my orders there wasn't a price difference, but a few other people have mentioned the second option.

Funny that we've read this article many different times and been over-hyped to the point of dissapointment.

Meh.

If it's true then AWESOME.

If not, again - meh.

nothing new here.

I love the way AI THINKS it's on cutting edge reporting, just to keep its site afloat. Any schmo could've used jargon to conclude that "Apple will be refreshing its portables some time before the holidays." Exactly. That's still nearly 2 months away! Let's try a next week release and I'll be happy.

Why Pull The Trigger On $5k Worth Of Obsolete Mobile Macs Now?

Just bought 2 new macs! This is my very first Mac!

For my boyfriend:

13" Macbook (black)
  • 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo
  • 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x512
  • 120GB Serial ATA drive
For me: :)

15.4" Macbook Pro
  • 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo
  • 2GB 667 DDR2 - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
  • 120GB Serial ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
I just couldn't wait for some chip that may or may not be here in the next few weeks, and may or may not be dramatically faster. I just couldn't. It's time for me and my boyfriend to switch.

Yay SO EXCITED.

edit: Ordered today (10/6), estimated shipping time for the Macbook is 10/17, but for my Macbook Pro its 11/2 :(
Yes you can. Don't be weak. Dropping 5 Grand on obsolete Mobile Macs is a mistake you will deeply regret in only a few short weeks.

Not to poop on your party, but why do you feel the need to pull the trigger now when we are so close to the C2D mdoels that almost certainly will include a total MBP re-design?

It's Not About The Processor We Are Waiting For - It's About The Re-Design!

You know you can phone Apple and cancel that order right now right?

I would assume it is because we dont actually know how close we are....according to this sight they have been imminent for months. I say good call to em, as far as we know they may not release them for weeks or months despite our expectations.

I would dead that order if I were you. Wait a week.

Here's a weird thing, my macbook order, ordered last week has due delivery date 12/10/06, whilst the Macbook inside the order has due delivery date 16/10/06 -- a bug of sorts methinks?

what to choose ?

So the wait is getting to an end finally ! (well, weeks are few compared to the months we've waited)
I am saying this related to the AI article ! This is good news but we already knew about the shortage here on macrumors...
So there is a question that has made my nights sleepless these days :
The C2D machine will be my first mac ! I switch because I'm becoming more or less professional and I need a stable, powerful and good looking laptop.

I'm in music so I need to plug my soundcard (fw 400 or 800, it has both) and an external harddrive (a 500GB lacie that i have already bought, it has fw400 or 800 as well as usb2, 7200rpm and 16mb cache, hfs+ formated and I'm still on xp !)

So a C2D macbook would be the kick for me because i don't need a graphic card but the thing is I need at least a fw800 port on it to plug my soundcard and harddrive in serial ! I can not use my hardrive on usb2, not good for my fast access needs...

So I'm really hoping for this little improvement of the macbook !
What do you guys think ?

Are there other people making music here ? What would they do ?
I would be really pissed to have to buy the much more expensive MBP just because MB lacks fw800...

I really don't want to jump on the "cancel them" bandwagon but there is one thing you need to consider..The new MBP and MB WILL have the 802.11n wireless in them. This is something you will surely wish you had come January..

MB Will Never Get FW800 Port

FW400 is plenty fast for audio production. There will never be FW800 on the MB. I think what you need is a FW400 HUB for your new MB so you can plug both in the one port. Am I correct in assuming that they are both leaves - i.e. only have one FW400 port on each device?
