It has got to be released this month. Im about 80% sure its going to happen. If the shipping times in the bulk educational puchase site goes from 2-3 weeks back to 1-3 days without an update I'll probably jsut buy a refurb. I can't wait til Jan.

Isnt Apple losing sales by doing this?

I don't think so. If a consumer wants to buy a Mac, he or she will probably get one. If a consumer wants a PC, same thing.

I want a Mac laptop, specifically with the Merom processor, so I'm willing to wait for that, even if it means till Jan. If a person can't wait, they will buy the current one.

I think there's a very small percent of people who are on the fence between Mac or PC and it's my personal opinion that there's no comparison.

Macs all the way.

Maybe we should go on a mass letter writing campaign to Apple to let them know we hate the secrecy. I wrote an email to them and they sent me back the usual, "Dear Sir, we do not comment on future release plans... to be fair to everyone..." yada yada. It's just because that's the way its always been, not out of fairness.

I am about to do it...

I have never owned a Mac. I decided my next computer would be a MBP in May. I have been "waiting" since then. And by waiting I mean getting the money together. I have been ready to buy for a few weeks now. I am on an P4 Toshiba laptop that can barely handle Firefox and AIM at the same time, God help me if I try to open Acrobat.

You people have sucked me into your world. Sitting here every damn day reading this. Every Tuesday morning...I just can't take it any more. This weekend I am probably going to buy the MBP, the cheapest I can get it--$1799 with student discount.

I am not a high end user, I do document prep, internet, data analysis on excel, and some iLife type stuff. That's it. All the crap that people have rumored that will be in the new C2D Merom, whatever you want to call it, I probably won't need.

As soon as I get my MBP, I am going onto my router and blocking this site and getting my girlfriend to change the router's pw, I can't handle it any more.

Grrrrrrrrrrr

yeah, screw this. if the site isn't updated by 11 tomorrow i'm walking 4 blocks to my apple store to buy a nice new MBP.

the return policy is what, 14 days? that gives me 2 more tuesdays to return it.

October 26

On both Dell and IBM websites, orders for Core 2 Duo laptops ship on October 26 at the earliest, which indicates that there is probably not yet an ample supply of C2D's for full roll out. Apple won't release C2D MBP's and MB's until they can say "shipping now." So it kind of looks like we won't be seeing them until the very end of this month, or beginning of November. Bummer. I am ready to order!

I would say you really might as well save money and get a regular MacBook. If you're not doing high-end stuff, I don't see why you'd want to spend almost a grand more.

Now, I am a high-end user, so it's a must for me to max out the memory. And it's 64-bit or forget it. From what I know, I'd get more out of the 64-bit in the long run than a separate GPU. (Though both would be nice.)

I need a new computer for work. I was planning on getting a MBP (Graphic Design) but I realized that, for a similar amount of money, I could get a MacBook now and a Mac Mini later on. I can't justify spending too much on something that is inevitably going to get coffee spilled on it. (I just need the minis to support monitor expansion -- hopefully the future.)

Ummm yeah, and two weeks ago it said October 12th...that isn't a good indicator of anything, they just take a while to build/get more shipments. Actually I put together a Dell and it told me it would ship the 18th...

Don't forget about the 10% restocking fee.

Good news from Krautland - for some of you I hope:
I contacted one of the biggest apple-dealers here in Germany yesterday, and the employee I was talking to blew the whistle: She said that there will be new MBs and MBpros on Oct.25th (this year, errr,I guess); she couldn't be specific about CPU,GPU etc., but after playing a round of "are you sure?""yes,I am!"- ping pong with her she said that this has been announced and confirmed by their management.
Hope and pray...

That's on a Wednesday?! How odd...

The more we have to wait...the more unrest people will be. Not good.

Give me a break i and everybody else here have been waiting long enough (nearly 6 months now).

Guess what, the C2D hasn't been out for 6 months.

Even if you knew Intel was going to release it in August to PC manufacturers, it's your problem (and other people who say they've been waiting for more than x number of months) that you didn't purchase the current technology when you had the chance.

It's very frustrating when people say Apple is so far behind in their release.
Sure they're behind, but how much?
Now think of it in reality terms, not in the terms that people like me (who check this board 100 times a day)...damn, I really don't have this kind of time, where does it come from!

The wait for Dell and IBM (and many other brands like HP) is always 10 days or more out when you order their popular lines. There is no shortage, or at least no more shortage of C2D processors than any other CPU. Even the 2.33GHz ones are shipping steadily. Apple ships 2.33GHz C2D iMac systems in 2 to 3 business days. Changing processor options at Dell, IBM, etc.. doesn't change the ship date. It's always this way, people trying to see this as a sign of a shortage obviously have never bought any of these PCs before. Having purchased hundreds of Dell systems over the years, I can assure you that a 2 week wait is normal, even when all the components are in surplus. It's the lead-time needed for assembly and testing due to how Dell takes orders, assembles the production kit for that order, then builds it, then tests it. Computer makers like Apple have a different approach.

I want the hadware in atleast the black macbook. But, there are a few things that are pushing me to spend the extra $400. I don't like the glossy screen. I work in an area with a lot of flurescent lights and the glar after a while gets to me, especially when staring at Excel for hours. Also, I want the better supported resolutions with the MBP, I will be using this computer to give a lot of presentations and the higher resolutions makes things look better on projectors. PLus the MBP comes with the DVI->VGA adaptor, one less thing to buy with the MB.

October 17th

I'm betting on October 17th. 24 hours before the September earnings result (which is rumored to be extremely good) and Investor conference call on Wednesday morning.

This would stop the savvy investors from complaing about the price/performance structure between the Macbook and Macbook Pro.

Here's hoping.

I essentially thought the MBP and the MB would appear more or less the same quality when projecting. Isn't the lumens / clarity of the projector the real determining factor?

Not trying to talk you out of the MBP - just putting the question out there that if this is the major determining factor (besides the gloss you spoke of) - then you may save yourself some money.

Welcome any further input on this...

OK ok ok... I must jump on the "bandwagon" here...

Im a student who sold his 17" G4 Powerbook 1.5 ghz last month for $1400 cash in hopes that the new macbook pros would be released in late September. It is now OCTOBER and I am still waiting. I have been telling myself that my new laptop would be my 21st "birthday" present (to myself), which just so happens to be TUESDAY OCTOBER 24. However, recent events have led me to no get my hopes up!

Just thought that I may add some fuel to the fire...

Is it possible that Apple give the Mabook Pro a facelift, which can be the reason that this update is taking so long? Perhaps maybe... liquid cooling or even CarbonFiber? I wouldnt mind carbon fiber, or liquid cooling... or maybe even a new "latch"

Bigger hard drives? Bigger graphics card? More preinstalled Ram at same price point??

I am hoping that we get more than just C2D, and by the looks of how long overdue this update is, I think we will all be happy in the end... Just my opinion!

There will be magnetic latches and 160GB drives, and a new GPU at best...

Aluminum is here to stay.

anyone betting on tommorow? or is that out of the question..

I have a really bad feeling. Columbus day is only a holiday when you're in grades k-12, or if you work for a government agency or bank.

My guess, wait for Tuesday ;)
(or the Tuesday after that, or the Tuesday after that....etc...)

I don't think liquid cooling is an option. It takes up quite a bit of room, and unless you want a twice-as-thick MBP....

apple needed the banks
