I am thinking any upgrade will only be a core2duo... Nothing else... Anything more and I would think Apple would want to make a show of it...

So... If they are going to make a show of it... it must be at least a few weeks off...

Thats all we need, the iMac came out unannounced with only a core 2 duo and price reduction... Oh Yeh and the 24" sreen

I would like loads of new features but dont need it, i am only waiting because i dont want an out of date computer in a months time, i want atleast 6-12months before it is out of date

Well, this is my first post on these forums. I have to chime in on all of this. I have just started going back to school for graphic design (career change ) and have realized that I finally need to break down and get a mac. I'm in the camp that if I'm going to shell out the money to get one of these, it'd better be the latest and greatest. Problem is, that I need this asap for projects as I do not have time to take the 40 min drive to the school just to work on projects when I get a spare minute. So here I am, hoping and praying that they release these in the next couple of weeks.

keep praying. Apple's bull junk. They're not gonna release anything, anytime soon in the next several weeks. You heard it hear, first.

From Apple Insider*
"Nevertheless, people familiar with Apple's product plans have said the company will update both its MacBook and MacBook Pro lines with Intel Corp.'s Core 2 Duo processors in time for the start of holiday shopping season this November."

You i am starting to think, as cool as they are, that the 24" iMac was a waste of apple's time....

...a waste of merom development time.

Now im sure that apple and intel have separate teams working on development of each piece of hardware, but for an update to be foreseen this early and gather this much hype only NOT to be released would be extremely wierd.

Ok its their business they can do as thy wish but the other manufacturers have shown their cards early and will most likely lose to apple's hand when they finally release/announce the MBP.

Why cant apple just say something, anything. I would part with my money now if there was not be an update til next year, i would have parted with it a long time ago if that were the case.

Im also sure that if there is to be no update then apple sales staff would (hopefully) be told to inform buyers of the fact.

To be this secretive without an update would be strange IMHO?

Luckily for me, since Apple has been messing around trying to get this new MBP out I have had time to decide that I really don't need one. Thats what 9 months of waiting will do to a person. Thank you Apple for saving me $2800! I'm gonna put that money to a new TV and Windows Media machine!

Come on Apple and Steve get your act together.

Give me a break i and everybody else here have been waiting long enough (nearly 6 months now).

Just think about it. If everybody that claimed to be waiting to buy when C2D arrives your really playing with fire here. Thats like like €100-€150k into Apples bank account.Your also seriously in danger of losing some very faithful customers to Dell or Sony if this keeps up as oh yes they have already made the switch and are shipping C2D portables for 3 weeks(oh the shame of it all).

****************Come on Wednesday silent update.***************

I really need one for college its so hard to do my course without a laptop.
And i don't wanna hear smart asses saying why don't you just get a core duo one. As you know the answers

1. Extra speed and possibility of other upgrades at the time
2. Because i would be so sick if i spent €2829 on a 17" MBP and there was an update next week.

Wish they would just update or tell us when to expect one at least (1 month, 2 months etc) I cant wait much longer im 3 weeks back in college and i really cant do my work without it.

Considering what Apple has done, Apple will undate the freaking iMacs first next year, and MBPs with your specs will only ship towards WWDC next year...

No! Don't! Stay away!

Good lord people. Unless you have to have a specific feature, order now....

"Insiders and analysts alike believe the Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple stands a solid chance of selling as many as 1 million notebook systems during the three-month period ending December. The milestone would be a company first."

from apple insider (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2125)

For this to be true i would think Apple needs to start selling them soon!

Also of note: If apple intends on releasing a true video ipod by xmas then they would probably want to show it off, maybe at MacExpo, so a silent update to MBP would be more likely i think.

I am pretty sure Apple can market their crap to 1 million people who knows nothing about industry trends and buy it all the same. Hey, don't forget people still bought PBs when they were running with a pokey G4 processor!

Are you mad?

The article talks of Core 2 Duo notebooks. Notebooks that as of today still do not exist, at least in public, so how do you think they can sell 1 million in under 3 months wheb they are still not around.....!

I jumped ship

FWIW, I reevaluated my needs, accepted some tradeoffs, and bought a new iMac. Best wishes to the rest of you.

I'm very tired of this topic.

I'm very tired of this thread.

I'm very tired of apple.

And I don't even own one yet.

I've wasted enough time. Will one of you be kind enough to send me a PM when they release the new hardware?

I've got things to do.

Laterz. :p

The 24" iMac is an awesome system... However, Apple made three big goofs with it.

1> Should have been the Conroe desktop C2D processor instead of Merom inside.

2> Should be using the Intel i96x series chipset for support of 4GB to 8GB of RAM.

3> Should have had a couple better video options. 7600GT is a mid-range GPU.

And If you really want to pick nits, Apple should have put a DVI input on the back of the thing so not only could it be a stand-alone system, but a display as well. A 24" iMac would make a great second system and second display for a Mac Pro or Power Mac.

Oi!, DO NOT diss the G4, bow before the almighty G4 or ye shall be smitten
