Tim Cook is trying to tell you "50% upgrades v 14% upgrades MEANS WE"RE BETTER THAN THEM!"

thats not at all what it says. nor means.

50% upgrades is good. I'm not trying to discount that. Apple should be VERY VERY proud of that fact.

But bringing up Windows numbers without the context behind the why of windows numbers, nor the overall statstics is purely being used to mislead consumers.

Not really sure how you come to that conclusion. The difference in proportion clearly means that more Mac users have had interest in upgrading to Mavericks. Or, in another words, that Apple did something with Mavericks that made it attractive, which Microsoft did not succeeded in doing with Windows 8. Even though the main factor is likely to be the price. I mean, there is no doubt that most of what Tim says is pure marketing, but these numbers at least absolutely make sense as a benchmark to me .

And — its not only Windows users that are blocked from upgrading for business reasons. My servers still run on Snow Leopard because updating from it would break many software dependencies which are crucial for us.

Like The Verge said, I like this new, more relaxed Apple. It's more Californian.

Not an iPhone 5S?

Anyone else notice that on the "zoomed in" screen displays during the iOS demos, the phone on the screen isn't an iPhone 5S? Thin bezel, rounded aluminum edges… previewing iPhone 6?

Well, apart from the BS sales figures, never known anyone to compare the sales of a free product to those of a product that is charged for?
And we'll ignore the forced on you iOS8..

But the new OSX looks like they just stuck a few extra bits in, not much different at all? I can't even see the difference in the looks? Don't think much of their dropbox rip off either as I don't see them saying it works across platforms?

iOS 8 Demo background

Anyone notice that the volume keys on the demo box are very different than the iPhone 5?

I saw SSL VPN and per App VPN. I'm wondering if Server 4 will support SSL VPN now. If so, this is probably the best news ever!

Yosemite is probably the best release since Snow Leopard. Lots of features I'll use on a daily basis and iCloud Drive is a welcome.
