As much as I'm interested in what Tim has to say, Kara Swisher is almost intolerable.

EDIT: looks like I'm not alone, either.

I watched CNET's blog last night, she seemed irritating by just the blogger's notes alone. Sometimes women feel the need to overcompensate in business when the field they are involved in tends to be male dominated.

Long time Apple guy here and I like Tim Cook a great deal. Having said that.. his comment that Apple isn't concerned about numbers rings hollow for thousands of industry professionals who have watched the Mac Pro line languish for 3 years. Apple is obviously chasing the numbers (and why not?) but those numbers come from iDevices. I'd just rather they not be hypocrites about it.

his stage presence is not from this world. such a bore

if this guy was my prof during lectures id walk out after 10 minutes

It's like Tim is using the same 5 sentences over and over again. It feels like my heart stops beating when I'm listening to that guy. Unbearable.

On the surface you might disagree with this but if you think about it, I'm not too far off.
You're comparing him to Steve Jobs. On stage Jobs was amazing and fun. He created excitement during the keynote. Now try and remember when Bill Gates did interviews or on-stage keynotes, super boring beyond means. CEO's are decision makers, they are all not like Steve Jobs. They are not suppose to do presentations and create excitement, that's what they hire people for. Tim Cook is not really any different than the rest of the CEO's out there.

Tim said some positive things there and handled the prying question tactfully. I guess the goal is to build anticipation for WWDC. The AAPL stock is still trending down though.

I'm only in about 12 minutes and have dozed off twice. Did I miss anything? Should I rewind?

Sorry folks... while Timmy C is most likely a genius... Apple needs a new point man, a more dynamic face for the media. Cook just drones on... and on....

Edit: Screw it. After 40 minutes I can't take it anymore. I even took a valium to liven things up.

But my take for the little I viewed is: 1.) there is no iWatch in the works. 2.) The iTV rumor was simply that... a rumor. Tim "telegraphs" poorly.

LOL, I agree, he's a boring speaker, but I really like the things he has to say and how well thought out his responses are.

Reading between the lines, it seems that Apple does recognize the importance of iOS 7 and its need to refresh and refine the user experience on iOS devices. I'm looking forward to the WWDC keynote!

We KNOW that Apple is secretive and Tim Cook won't answer questions about Apple's future.... so why not ask questions about the past that he CAN answer - like his relationship to Steve Jobs, how he came to Apple, the Apple work environment, his transition to CEO, what working with Jonny Ives is like... etc. etc. etc.

LOL, this!!!

Seriously, sometimes watching these videos, you have to wonder why we are even watching this?(every key questions cannot be answered)

I guess we watch it to get a sense of how CEO of apple operates and deals w/ pressure of being in hot seat.

My observation? This guy is either total scam and clueless or completely and utterly under prepared. (I guess scam and clueless does not go together).

I can make Tim Cook's interview template

1)When will xx product come out?
a) cannot answer that but we are working to bringing true innovation

2)Why hasnt xx product come out yet?
a) we only work to bring out amazing product so you will have to wait

3)Can you tell us anything about your next iphone(THE flagship category of the company?
a) uhhh.. someone else is working on it

4)What do you think about competitor's xx product?
a) pause for about 10 sec.. and cheats his way by trying to push google glass to give him information about their product.. He realizes that staring at it does not give him answer so he goes on to say how xx is for niche market

I think a growing fear is that Apple will become "not really any different than the rest" of the companies out there and Tim's demeanor and style doesn't help tame those fears. Apple are/were the Beatles of the tech world. If they are entering their Wings phase, that's not a good for investors or loyal customers/fans.

I really don't know what Steve Jobs saw in Tim Cook. He has none of the charisma or visionary genius that Steve had. His voice is so dull it sends me to sleep.

They might have been the Beatles of the tech work one day but these days they are more like the Disney of the tech world, safe and predictable.

Understandable but Cook not being of "Rock Star" status isn't going to put Apple behind other companies either, it's not like Samsung's CEO is the world's most exciting speaker either. While the transfer of enthusiasm is the definition of a close, at the end of the day it's about the products. It's unnecessary to judge a company based on the lack of star status from the CEO. Now, unlike Apple, Microsoft actually reflects it's idiot of a CEO. ;)

Kara was so annoying. She's snooty and is not qualified to be talking about technology. And god forbid some people clapped at what he had to say she gets all uppity and annoyed, get over it honey!

Besides that I thought it went very well, though they need to catch on at some point that Tim isn't going to be telling them what they want to hear like, "Yes we are working on a new TV, a larger iPhone, iPad, they will look like this, etc." Too much time is wasted when they keep trying to ask about stuff that you know isn't going to be answered. He did a good job reiterating what he wouldn't be talking about though.

Obviously he's not Steve Jobs. I think we need to start getting over the fact that he's not as charismatic or interesting to listen to. We know what to expect from him by now, it's been almost two years like he said.

Good point. At least that would be interesting to listen to and we might learn something new. This was bland beyond belief.

Yes
I'll tell you what's going on? These "journalists" FEED off the fighting between companies. It gives them articles to write about. She was just edging Cook on to confront the competition.

Cook was basically saying, look we've ALWAYS had competition. This is business and we deal with it. Our goal is to make the best phone, best computer, etc.

I just don't get this woman at all.

dont know, the CEOs i met were pretty good at speaking. i mean u have to have certain skills to become a ceo in the first place and im sure soft skills would be one of them.

i dont even like to compare him to steve, the way he talks simply drives me up the wall. im sure hes talking like this in privat as well. his long pauses and monotone voice made me turn off the last keynote.

Oh my goooood I hate watching the AllThingsD interviews EVERY year only because of Kara Swisher. I simply cannot STAND her!!

Sounds and acts like a complete b*tch, furthermore, her total ignorance makes me totally irritated.

Walt is okay, but none of them aren't really good interviewers. Asking a LOT of yes and no questions, and not many wh-questions.

All in all, kind of the same interview as the past ten D-interviews; nothing revealing, nothing really interesting. Just 1h20m smalltalk (and one crazy a** b*tch).

You aren't. She is the main reason I won't be watching this. Isn't anyone in D realising how sh*** she is?

Well try and remember he's just a human being like the rest of here are. The way he speaks is just the way he speaks. I think you're over-analyzing him a bit too much. :D
