I like Tim Cook a lot actually, yes he talks a bit slowly and no he doesn't always give straight and to the point answers, but just listen to the questions he has to answer and ask yourself if any other CEO would do any better in his position. Just truly awful interviewing skills there.

talk about asinine and living in a bubble

As someone else said, you can't expect a CEO not to say this about their products. But even more than that, even though it's largely based on opinion and use cases, a pretty solid case can be made for each of these products being the best in their field.

In my and at least a large minority of consumer's opinion iPhone and iPad blow the competition out of the water. No one can knock iPod's ridiculous amount of success (I don't think I know a single person who owns a dedicated music player that isn't an iPod). And depending on your needs a mac computer can far surpass an equivalent PC (this one is much more subjective).

Does anyone know if the video is available to download (instead of stream)? I'd like to download the full file and put it on my phone to watch on my commute home without needing to use up my data plan.

Im a tech lover and I do like Apple and getting more and more products from them lately.

But trying to be objective here, I find that this interview was pretty much a lost of time since all questions where rejected and/or avoided. Make it interesting or don't show yourself.

Well he does have a basis of saying that if you look at the numbers and feedback.

What exactly did you expect him to say? "We make so-so tablets, so-so smartphones, so-so music players?"

I really don't know what Steve Jobs saw in Tim Cook. He has none of the charisma or visionary genius that Steve had. His voice is so dull it sends me to sleep.

No one has the vision and charisma that Steve had. But if you want someone capable to keep your billion dollar company ticking efficiently, then you could do much worse than Cook. Much much worse.

Seriously I created an account just to say this

THAT WOMAN IS A MORON

Please please please take her off of that I do not understand how more people aren't infuriated over her being a jerk

She brings absolutely nothing to the table Mossberg couldn't handle himself

Oh my goooood I hate watching the AllThingsD interviews EVERY year only because of Kara Swisher. I simply cannot STAND her!!

. . . furthermore, her total ignorance makes me totally irritated.
Unfortunately, yes. She could use some elocution lessons and some prepared questions with actual practicing.

She is literally wasting her place in history.

Wow this women is a ***** MORON, she really sounds like an idiot more than ever. Embarrassing

All these questions are horrible. The interviewers are ignorant and it shows in their uninformed questions.

I agree completely. I did not like the part where they forced Tim Cook to talk about Apple's future products. They should've known better. No company would ever do that and jeopardize everything.

It needed to be more refined and of course new questions can form based on someones answer. He was quite closed off to even giving the most vague of answers on many matters which is not too surprising. I have never seen her before and I cannot say I care for her, rather off.

Tim Cook is looking like my grandma!! he`s too old, i think it was the pressure of being de Apple CEO....

Kara Swisher is married to a Google exec, but I'm sure she is a completely objective journalist and there is no agenda or conflict of interest in her questions. I don't know why tech executives that compete with Google agree to be interviewed by her.

Well, that explains a lot. Especially of her description of how she doesn't enjoy Apple products but she and her kids enjoy Android products...I can only imagine that to be hell on Earth. With such a bias opinion she really shouldn't be interviewing anyone at these things. You could see Cook getting more and more irritated with both of them. He's far above them in the technology world and they were talking down to him.

Wow, one boring CEO. He might be a very nice person, but he has no vision, and it's obvious... Replace him with someone with balls. I don't think Apple's closed hardware eco-system is a viable business model without an eccentric visionary at the helm.

Steve Jobs never told us anything either

It is just that people liked Steve and wanted him around, even when he had nothing to say. Not a criticism of SJ, but worth putting it into perspective when comparing TC to him.

I personally felt that Tim Cook gave a reasonably balanced interview, except when it came to taxes and open questions where he did not do so well in my opinon.

But then I expected that anyway. Roll on WWDC...

You gotta be kidding me. This was the most uninteresting interview. SJ had lots to say about the industry, his past, future vision..this was not at all interesting.

At least he doesn't look like your grandpa.

Very subtle distinction, there...

And he's 53 years old...practically dead.

What Apple needs is a 25 year old, very butch, extremely cool guy...

If you've seen one Tim Cook interview, you've seen them all, and that fact still remains true here. I watched this whole thing and just found myself growing increasingly frustrated by his answers. I think the interviewers and crowd were losing their patience with him too. The guy just constantly sounds like he's babbling off PR catchphrases. It's nothing interesting, imaginative, or compelling in any way.

People ask him for just any general idea for where he sees the future of tech and he just rambles off how great Apple's current products are (which are looking increasingly dated), along with his cute catchphrase "we have a great deal of interest in _____" with a wink and a nod. If this guy ever tried to give some motivational speech, he'd probably end up trying to sell everyone an iPad, instead of opening up and sharing something deep and meaningful about himself.

The guy just has no clue what to say because he really doesn't care. He wants to deal with the numbers, money, charts and graphs, and that's it. I'm not saying he needs to be Steve Jobs, but unfortunately, that's what the press is looking for, and he's not even close. People need to let him keep Cooking the books in the background (pun intended) and start inviting someone else from Apple to answer some questions.

I will say, if I scraped anything out of this, it's that Tim mentions iMessage an unusual amount towards the end. Maybe hinting at expanding that functionality somehow? As is, I don't see it as a very great product considering you can only use it with other iOS users.

he was so stumped and responded terribly when asked about why they were adding the S4 to the Samsung lawsuit

I believe this interview was a waste of time. I miss the visionary, the dreamer, the man – Steve Jobs. I would not be surprised if the board is start looking for a replacement. On the positive side, the other companies do not have a Steve Jobs either ...

im torn on the part he talks about the watch and says he

paraphrasing:

"we would have to make the watch so incredible to get people to consider wearing the watch, "

its just dont seem smart to publicly doubt your product.

but i didnt watch the whole interview so dont crucifyme :)

why do you insist on the guy being butch.
and i dont know the actor that plays in there
mac vs pc series, would seem to be a acceptable young fit type of character.

why do you think the image of a very butch young guy would do the job better?

hmm just curious

We never complained about steve being old, plus maybe they want to keep the theme of old guys with classes

realistically speaking - we do associate respect to the old and wise people
classes make you smart when your young, wise when your old :)

Ugh, Kara is terrible. Why do they continue to let her in on these interviews.

Mossberg was bad too. His questions are loaded like a grumpy teenager asking her parents why she can't get a new car.

You got me.. ;)

Not to mention the fact that the interviewers did not ask TC any questions other than "tell us every product plan Apple has for the future." SJ never gave away secrets, he only gave what suited him.

Dumb questions often result in dumb answers. But my point was that I felt he did well in spite of this, which of course you do not agree.

what a great personality Tim Cook is. although Steve Jobs was way better but Cook is also good.
this year is gonna be great for apple. really excited about the revamped iOS7 and the smart-watch.

he talks very defensive, like if apple doesn't wants to make phablets, he'll insult phablets. but i will say that he has changed a lot, he's becoming the next Steve.
