Well they said multiple times that if you wanted a untethered JB and Unlock to stay on 5.0 and don;t upgrade, so I see then releasing it if they have it and if it is stable to cover that part of their "audience" that actually read and follow them.

I have no idea what they'll do, but I wouldn't be quick to lump the unlock with the JB. I think the priority for releasing the unlock is certainly less now that Apple ships a factory unlocked version, along with Verizon & Sprint providing unlocks for international travel. At the time they finish the unlock, most new 4S's shipping might not even have 5.0 pre-installed. I'm sure the 5.0 JB will released as soon as its done, but like I said I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to hold off on the unlock till it can be paired with a JB that covers all current 4S devices. That would be in line with the dev team's whole "needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" which have certainly influenced their release decisions before. The 5.0 JB is a little different since the exploit is already closed in 5.0.1 I think.

Well, as my personal opinion, that had been said a lot, but I don't really see that affecting the focus or the release time, Free unlock will always beat (and attract the masses) over any paid solution. So as i said i strongly believe they will release if it is stable, at this point they just got access to the bootrom so it is still early and 5.1 just lingering around, we'll have to wait a bit more.

As much as we love news, it's a bit uncomfortable to see personal texts from a guy who doesn't really know it's being posted..

Why would anyone be surprised by this? It's one thing to follow people like MN but only the truly daft and uninformed attempt to extrapolate this into when a jb/unlock will be available. This Saturday? How ridiculous. Hopefully, MN will learn that sharing any information only encourages this type of bizarre behavior. Then post a text exchange without permission. Talk about a no class move.

Okay, If your going to be like that, here is the portion I decided was unnecessary to post from the convo. with my friend. The only reason I asked saturday is because someone else said that.

Guys. Please be really honest. I had an jailbroken iPhone 4. It had a lot of tweaks that made my iPhone an ubeatable phone. But I sold it...

Now, I'm gonna buy one Android or an iPhone 4S. If I'm gonna buy iPhone 4S, I must be sure if it can be jailbroken in nearest future. Will it?

Beatbeckham, you could go play soccer for a while and then come back and check! Seriously, how would we know? Only devs who are working on this JB would know how and when. If I tell you "YES", will that make you happy?

I think the best educated guess revolves around keeping the exploit or exploits viable for as long as possible. Which to me means they won't want to release a jailbreak until they know apple has plugged them all. Basically I wouldn't hope for a release until 5.1 goes public.

This doesn't tell us anything new about the jailbreak, it's entirely about the baseband unlock. This is one of many steps needed toward unlocking the baseband.

As far as the jailbreak, we already know that MuscleNerd can execute arbitrary code on the 4S. What we don't know is whether the exploit he uses is close to being (or even can be) made into an end-user jailbreak. We also have no idea if such a jailbreak would be tethered.

I agree with others who have guessed that they won't release a jailbreak until they've perfected a downgrade path. For one thing, they are currently as helpless as we are should they have to restore their own 4Ses -- making it pretty dangerous to test a jailbreak that might break their OS and render their personal 4Ses unjailbreakable.

And that is the crux of the matter. If the version of iOS 5 breaks on their phone, since Apple is no longer signing/offering it, their restore would come from the latest iOS released, which may upgrade the baseband.

You have to admit, Apple upped their game, big time.

BL.

I'm not really convinced Apple upped their game, as they've always plugged jail breaking holes. The A5 by nature is more powerful and complicated thus requires more exploits.

I'm not convinced that the team will be UNABLE to create a downgrading path using blobs, they just need a tweaked system and a new tool. I'm sure the jailbreak is actually there (as PROVEN by the video released weeks ago), but they just have to package it together and are also trying to get the unlock and downgrade path intact.

The way I see it if you are not going to be satisfied with what the non jailbroken iPhone has to offer then you should not buy it.. Just get your Android... I love my jailbreak and all the tweaks but I can certainly live with a "jailed" iPhone.
