This was pry the main reason I got an SGII... no idea or even timeframe of when the JB would be out for the 4S. iPhone w/o JB is mehhh. Too used to SBS and it's integration with iOS 5 among quite a few other things I have running. Didn't want to get the 4S and be stuck w/ no JB, it could be released next week, or months and months from now. Nobody knows and the new system is more complicated to crack.

I'm not really convinced Apple upped their game, as they've always plugged jail breaking holes. The A5 by nature is more powerful and complicated thus requires more exploits.

What are you talking about? Apple went from a signing system with absolutely no defense against man-in-the-middle attacks to one with a fairly sophisticated signing protocol. That's stepping up their game. They've also added methods for monitoring crash reports so that they can find potentially exploitable crashes more easily. That's also stepping up their game.

I think the whole concept of signing and blobs was a pretty good defense against most downgrading. That said, muscle nerd has tweeted the while they have reinvented the game yet again, they haven't made it impossible to downgrade - it will just take a new tool.

I also don't see any concrete proof as to where they've started monitoring crash reports explicitly in iOS 5 and not in prior versions of the software. To my experience I've seen them collecting "crash" reports in iTunes for quite some time.

this from notcom on his TinyUmbrella website:

"5.1b1 Support added
Before you ask; Yes a solution for the 5.x firmware nonce is being investigated... None of us have a working solution yet though. Hang tight.

I have a couple trails and ideas I am trying out for 4.x baseband based restores to avoid 10xx errors. Until then save your signatures as you will never know when they may come in handy..."

Right ... so as said above, the current tool won't work, but it is NOT impossible, it just hasn't been done yet.

People claiming that we will never see a downgrade path again need to lay off the negativity pill.

Going back to the spirit of the thread title "Further iPhone 4S JB Progress," do we know how long the wait may be until a JB arrives for the 4S?

I'm not convinced that the team will be UNABLE to create a downgrading path using blobs, they just need a tweaked system and a new tool. I'm sure the jailbreak is actually there (as PROVEN by the video released weeks ago), but they just have to package it together and are also trying to get the unlock and downgrade path intact.

Being more powerful/complex doesn't necessarily mean it's harder to hack. In fact, the more code there is, the greater the likelihood that they can find a vulnerability to exploit.

Nope.

Prediction: A publicly available jailbreak for the 4S won't be available until at least January 2012

How about 12/25/2011?

Apparently, @iHackman007 has something ready. Take his tweets as you will.

BL.

I don't really think he's legit, he's boasting to much. asking the dev team if they need help. I don't think someone that is serious enough to make a JB would act like that. But I guess we'll find out on the 25th.

I disagreed, they were using that "fairly sophisticated signing protocol" on the baseband since day one, all they did was to spread to the ipsw, that is a normal progression of software development, same thing with crash reports, that is not a way to keep jailbreaker away, as the firmware gets more complicated they need more effective ways to track, and identify bugs again, normal progression of software development.

Guys. Please be really honest. I had an jailbroken iPhone 4. It had a lot of tweaks that made my iPhone an ubeatable phone. But I sold it...

Now, I'm gonna buy one Android or an iPhone 4S. If I'm gonna buy iPhone 4S, I must be sure if it can be jailbroken in nearest future. Will it?

Define "near future"? My (personal) guess is that it won't be on 2011

Yes it will

I'm not sure if he's real or fake, but quite frankly who cares? When was there last a fresh face on the jailbreak scene that tweeted that they had a jailbreak or unlock and was lying?

If he's actually lying then who cares. We have to wait anyways so no reason to get upset or stressed.

There are enough fakes coming out off and on that devs keep a black list. There is nothing wrong with giving people a heads up that someone might be on that list.

Care to share this blacklist or where it can be located? It's not every day I seem to hear about fake jailbreak or unlock devs.

There are a lot of lists, you should do some googling. There are a TON of fake 4S jailbreaks just in the last few minutes on twitter, just go there and search for "4S jailbreak." But here is the list in question, with this guy showing:

Well yea, there are a lot of fake places on the web where you can pay for a "4S jailbreak". I thought you were mentioning active individuals who can actually make jailbreak promises. And that list looks like a very few people not many.

I didn't say there were a lot on his list, just that he was on the list. And that is the point to this all. Look I'll be glad if there is a new player with coding talent. And I'll be even more happy if he succeeds on the 25th. But again, he's on the fake list of a prominent and successful JB dev.

I think we'll all be extra thankful this Christmas if it holds out to be true. He does seem to have a picture of a 4S running Cydia with Siri though, so hopefully he isn't bluffing. A video will come soon and will clear up the confusion. That said, Musclenerd is always first to bash and claim a new dev is fake on the scene.

the guy is just an attention whore. he has NO jailbreak. 99% sure. as you see his old tweets, 11/26. he says he will release it 11/27. blah blah

im sure come xmas, he was say its coming nye.

Could it be a simple case of 'Fake until proven otherwise' in the eyes of the other JBers?? I'm sure if I started messing with it and found a workable exploit and made a successful JB, I would be listed as Fake as well.... until others were able to test it.

So what if he's new?.... If in the end his JB works, then he will be accepted into the JB community fold. If he IS faking it... we will surely see him disappear after Dec 25th. Either way it offers hope...

Yeah I'd be glad to be wrong! Unfortunately he's already promised on dates and not delivered.
