Looking at the pic on apple.com I wonder if the G5 shipping box really has a transparent window?

:D

No dell costumer would wonder if his shipping box had a transparent window or not.

it appears to just be a picture on the box to me. And also, for shipping, every mac ive gotten is safely rapped in styrofoam

I think he's mistaking the handles for an oval window.

You must be joking. There is no transparent window on the box.

Ah, but the burning question is, will there be 10.3 upgrade coupons inside those smart looking boxes?

Where do you see a window on that box?

If demand is beyond expectations on the dual 2.0s, then putting the single CPUS in stores now makes good sense, to move those units and take some heat off the duals.

i do not see how that can be good:

because if someone switches from the dual to a single, they will still only buy X amounts of g5s.

so apple will lose dough per pop.

Not ordering the Superdrive is actually a pretty good idea on machins that can handle dual optical drives. You get the Combo drive and $200, and Superdrives are now selling at around $185...

does anyone know, what the superdrives minimal requirement is?

i jsut called apple about my status (a 2ghz) he said that they stat shippin next week and i think he was hiting my will ship in 2 weeks i orderd on 7/23 .... i like the way that sounds

well, I would quite like a 1.6

>>Dammit, I want my Dual. Who cares about the single proc models? NO ONE, that's who! =)

Dual 2Ghz mega-super etc....

But for my business, graphics and high-end photoshop work, I can't really justify it. Quark and Indesign won't need dual 8GB RAM etc; and neither for nearly all the time will Photoshop. And with Adobe quoted as improving the speeds in PS by upto 200% for the 64 bit architecture, I am wondering what on earth high-end video development £d rendering, Pixar-style stuff are all you folks about to be doing?????

I'm down for two 1.6 ones, and a cheap new G4 (which I notice Apple are still cannily manufacturing to plug the hole at the bottom end (as it were) and a 1.8.

As replacements for our 7600; G3 beige, G4 450 (which for reasons beyond anyone in the apple universe, won't install 10.2, and a G3 over-clocked blue, they'll make all my colleagues happy bunnies and I'll keep the change.

Mine isn't shipping... granted... I never ordered one.. but it sure would be nice if they e-mailed me telling me they were going to ship me one... *hint hint*

Well, we're midway through the day today, and so far noone has posted either receiving their box being shipped to them, nor has anyone said they've gone to the store and checked them out. Is Apple telling the truth here, or are we all (myself included) just too busy to do anything about it on a monday morning?

"Now Shipping" my ass. I'm sorry, but when Apple does stuff like this it bothers me. How can they say "now shipping" when you can go and put a G5 in your shopping cart and it says "4-6 weeks?" That's pretty misleading.

I ordered mine a month ago, and there are people who ordered theirs before that, and THEY don't even have theirs yet. And now Apple puts an ad on there website as if people who ordered one right now would have them shipped out today or something!

matt, it's not misleading. the press release says they are shipping the single-processor machines, starting today. that doesn't mean everyone who orders one today is getting it right away, nor is that insinuated. anyone who ordered one previously knows when it's coming because it's on their Order Status.

now if they'd just ship my 2Ghz dual machine i'd be in heaven...

There's plenty of time for Apple to change that today. Let's face it it can say 4-6 weeks, but get shipped tomorrow. Plenty of times I've ordered stuff and had it shipped much sooner than expected. Alas, no G5 order though.

Also, just because no one on this board has mentioned it has shipped to them, doesn't mean Apple hasn't shipped any. Just no one's here!

Chill out.

A fellow checked his order in the apple store today, a Dual 2Ghz, and the ship date had been changed to early September , from early December. He came in hoping to see one of the floor models.

One: he is telling the truth, which kinda bugs me as my ship date is still October 3.

Two: He is confused about which tower he ordered.

Three: He is making it all up.

I didn't see the actual order screen, as peering wide eyed over a customer at his financial information just isn't good manners.

But I wish I had anyway.

I have a 1.8 with an order date & time of 06/23/2003, 01:11 PM PST that is still open. I hope to get a confirmation email that it is shipping soon, or that the store changes the status

What is really baffling me is that Steve said we'd be to 3Ghz by years end. How is that possible if they are still filling 2Ghz orders in DECEMBER? I hear the sounds of a broken promise.. anyone else?

In a *year*. Not by the end of the *calendar* year.
