So what's the deal exactly with Knox? Does it make it more difficult to root, install custom ROMS, unlocked the bootloader, use Triangle Away, etc?

There is not a stutter, or a hiccup to be found on this device, even with TouchWiz. This device is smooth as butter. Dare I say, even as smooth as the iPhone 5S? Heck, even Samsungs keyboard is awesome, and I usually gripe about their keyboard to no end. I was a little uneasy about buying this phone off contract at first due to the high price. But after a week of use, I'm so glad I did! The size is taking some getting used to, but the display is second to none! Anyone who's sitting on the fence thinking about getting this device, just do it! This is easily the device to beat in 2013!

I agree completely.

Some old complaints die hard, largely because they just get repeated over and over by many who are just looking to bash a product they may not even have personal experience with. TouchWiz is a good example of this. I find it quite good on my Note 3, especially fast, smooth and glitch free.

In my case I immediately found the size a benefit which took no getting used to at all. It's the primary reason I bought this model. Working in an Internet Centric Environment the size is this phones greatest asset, a fact that's reflected by its popularity.

I waited year after year, all the while using the latest (yet small) iPhone. Finally I just couldn't wait on Apple to catch up. Buying the Note 3 was the best smartphone decision I've made.

Yep I have to concur completely with the pair of you. Likewise Samsung keyboard just seems right on the Note 3.

And going back and typing on an iPhone 5 or even dialling now makes me feel like some kind of colossus :)

A few quick impulses snap pics.

The cat & dog have a chat on a pillar in the back garden in the morning sunshine. Other little dog looks up admiringly. Notice a very small ladybug. Here ye go. :)

My perfect ride on the Note 3 has come to an end.

Anyone having any issues with the camera app?

I open it and the phone just freezes and goes to a completely black screen. Freezes there for a moment and I press the home button and it goes back home.

Press camera, freezes,black screen, etc.

I restart and it works for a little while but then it does it again.

Anyone else?Very annoying

From the looks of MRUs pictures in the post right before yours........the camera app works just fine. I would recommend a factory reset and see if that fixes your problem. If that does not work then I would seek a replacement.

Try going into settings, force closing the Camera app, and then see if it behaves.

Very nice as always MRU! You have a career as a photographer if need be! :)

I am going to try that next time when it misbehaves and see if thats an issue.

Next would be the factory reset but last resort type option.

After seeing this Verge review of the HTC One Max, you really have to appreciate what Samsung has accomplished with the Note series.

The HTC One Max just looks like a blown up HTC One with a few tweaks. It's essentially offering the same Sense experience. And while it's nice to offer a different screen size option within the HTC One universe, it just doesn't seem like there's anything else special besides that.

Whereas, the Note III really offers a unique experience with the S-pen and its specific TouchWiz features.

I think the most exciting thing about the Note 3 by far is the advancement of AMOLED and the battery (the screen on time seems pretty impressive). Honest question: does anyone use the S-Pen stuff? Seems kind of tacked on, and I just can't imagine using a stylus in 2013.

What mode? Auto?

Yep

Yeah, I've used them surprisingly a lot. I love scrapbooking ideas and content, now I can skip evernote or springpad.

The only thing I don't use is screen write. That feature for me serves no real purpose, but everything else, yeah I like the s-pen.

Even the air preview stuff works amazing with the pen, yep I use it a lot so far (so much so I've ordered the bigger s-pen holder).

I use it every day - it is easily the standout feature on the Note 3 for me.

Taking quick notes in meetings - or composing e-mail or text messages - is so d*amn fast using the stylus compared to the keyboard. I have also grown to really like the scrapbook-feature.

The phone does a great job of recognizing my handwriting as well, which is somewhat surprising since it isn't exactly beautiful. I guess the phone in some way teaches itself your handwriting style over time - or maybe you adapt to what the phone understands. I rarely have to correct anything I write with the stylus anymore like I had to the first couple of days.

Give it a try and force yourself to use the stylus for 'everything' a couple of days (if you just use it once in a while you'll never get the hang of it) and you will probably grow to like it as well :)

I really wish VZW would get their ***** together. Stopped at a store today and they had trouble doing the device payment plan. Had the phone right there in front of me and they tell me to call verizon to confirm that I could do device payment plan and they said I could just order it. Well, I go home and the CSR says' "sure no problem and even called the same store to confirm" but they said I had to do it in store. Urghhhhhh It's a 25 mile drive for Chris sake! I would have the phone right now

I'm not sure why, but I can't see those pictures that were posted above (they appear as blank boxes). Can someone please take some *low light* pictures using the Note 3 and post them here?

I'm especially looking for samples of quickly taken "impromptu" shots, not shots that were carefully taken while holding very still (if that makes sense).

Thanks!

Serious question, because I'm considering a note III

What will you guys do when, lets say not maybe 4.4 but when 5.0 comes and Samsung will take for ever to update the note? What will you guys do to not lose all the Samsung features?

I dunno, I can't see myself being quicker with a stylus than I am with the keyboard. I'm a really quick thumb typist. But to good to know the features have added value to some lives.

We will wait... Simples.

To be honest after 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 and 4.3 the differences perceptible to the user after a manufacturer has skinned the device so heavily is really quite insignificant in my own experience.

And at the rate 4.4 is taking to come out I don't think we need to worry about 5 for at least another 6 months, possibly longer.

So ill just continue to use my Note 3 which offers me blazing speeds, performance and a whole load of customisation that is not in stock android right now and won't be worrying about 4.4 or 5. Being the latest version junkie has had the novelty utterly worn off at this stage for me.

I use the S-pen quite frequently. I find it easier to write emails and longer texts than to type. Also very very useful for making quick annotations on pdfs.

If you don't stand still, you'll get blurring in the low light shots since the shutter speed will be longer (for a given Aperture and ISO).

Anyway, don't have high hopes for the GN3's low light camera performance..it's average at best and mediocre at worst.

That said, I find little difference in the low light performance of any of these cell phone cameras (except the Lumia 1020 to some extent)....IP5, IP5s, GS4, GN3, HO..all look like crap..just the degree varies ..from pathetic to miserably pathetic.

For low light, I use my D7000 + 50 or 35 fast primes for planned events, and for unplanned events, I use my compact Panny LX5 which happens to be in my backpack 90% of the time. None of these cellphones are even remotely comparable to even the 3y old LX5, let alone a DSLR in terms of low light handling, focusing and image quality.

Don't depend on a cellphone for low light shots if ease of handling and image quality means anything to you.

100 percent agree. It's like lowlight just became a buzz selling feature when the reality is it just ends up being varying degrees of ****** quality pictures.

I bought into the hype with ultra pixel only to find its all stuff and nonsense, and that I rarely find myself ever in a darkened environment thinking "you know what, I'm going to take a photo here" ..... It just would never cross my mind.

If I want a good picture (low light or otherwise) I'll use my trusty DSLR and the right lens for the job. But most of my phone pictures are just quick "grab the phone and shoot" shots.

I was in a store the other day that had an iPhone 5S displayed next to a Samsung S4. Just for kicks, I took 6 or 7 identical quick shots around the store (indoors, of course) with both phones. Some up close, some medium distance some farther. Most (if not all) of the iPhone shots had better focus / less blurry looking. It was an obvious difference in picture quality. And since I'm considering a move to Android, I was sorry to see this. That's why I'm asking how the Note 3 does in this area.

We're you tapping to focus, and perhaps setting had changed from centre weighted focus to matrix.
