Lock screen widgets and graphics support, like naruto said above. Especially the lockscreen widgets is something I've been hoping to get for a long time now. I'm on a Note 2.

Being this far behind with updates is making me seriously think twice about getting another Samsung device. I love the S-features and all, but I have to admit this is quite frustrating.

I have a T-Mobile S4 on 4.2.2. Samsung's implementation does not allow lock screen widgets if security (pin, pattern, etc) is enabled. Very much defeats the purpose.

Hope that changes with the 4.3 update.

Wth Samsung is really getting on my nerves I've been waiting on those features forever. I'm seriously considering the competition. May get a note 3 for cheap and then flash AOSP ROMS to get kitkat anyway. I don't even use spen features that much I just like to have it.:banghead:

that "prevention information" screen started popping up for me yesterday as well. i didn't root and don't have any 4.4 apks...i just checked off to ignore it for 30 days for now...

Yeah I wonder what's is triggering it. We're you uninstalling anything prior ?

nope, didn't install or uninstall anything prior. at first i thought it was a trojan/virus/malware but found it to be knox related. clicking on OK just brings me to the app manager with no indications on what needs to be done...

Yeah that happened to me but i had just uninstalled 4.4 launcher and had just assumed it was that which triggered it. Very strange.

I'm on the fence guys!!! I want to make the jump to the note3 but not sure... I'm coming from the iP5S. Do any of you that made the switch miss these features:

1. iMessage
2. Seamless sync with mac
3. Smoothness/fluidity of apps- FB, Instagram, Sbux app, and games.
4. The iOS Email app
5. Bluetooth audio with car stereo shows song/album info and I'm able to skip songs with stereo controls (don't know if its possible on note 3)
6. Camera

Help me make up my mind!!! I'm dying to have a bigger screen. I'm on verizon and I've heard some people complain about garbbled poor call quality and poor camera performance. Thanks for the help! I'm probably going to best buy to pull the trigger just having second thoughts.....

Ugh, that's a bummer. Didn't know that :(

Anyone with a Note 3 know if lockscreen widgets play nice with lockscreen security measures on that phone?

Why is this bad? if widgets are allowed, what's the point of the security when you can access all the info in the phone via widgets? You might as well disable security.

Is it the end of the world? Unlike iphone, you could try a 3rd party widget lock screen. Have you explore that?

widgetlocker works but cost $4, i use that with NILS to get notifications on the lockscreen. my lock pattern still works. when the phone locks, i still get notifications that pop up. when a new message comes in after the phone locks, i have to put in my unlock pattern before the new message or email or whatever opens up. the other good thing about NILS is that if i get a notification while the phone is in my pocket, it delays the popup until i take the phone out.

A couple of reminders, notifications and the weather is hardly all the info in the phone.

edit: removed the 2nd half of what I'd written, I misunderstood your post

The lock widgets I use (Executive Assistant) allow me to control what information and how much of it can be displayed on the lock screen. So is an email comes in, I can have the widget display just the sender's name and subject. Ditto for texts. With Samsung 's implementation, I can no longer do that. It is annoying to have to unlock the phone to check emails when I have been used to just glancing at my lock screen for the last few years.

I did try widget locker, but it just did not feel "right". I think it had to do with the app overlaying itself on the lock screen, as opposed to being integrated with the lock screen on stock Android.

1) I have infinite text package (sms) to all Irish networks so I don't miss iMessage

2) I use iSyncr and Android file transfer to sync with my mac. It's certainly not as seemless as an iPhone but once you have adapted it doesn't pose a problem.

3) Smoothness. The Note 3 and HTC One are the smoothest Android handsets I have ever used. No lag, stutters and in general just great fluidity throughout the OS and apps.

4) I use Samsung stock email. I think iOS 1-6 email app were a nudge better but not by a wide margin. I am not a fan of iOS 7. The Note 3 plays very friendly with my .mac email accounts too.

5) yep I use bluetooth audio in my car too and can control everything just like I could on my iPhone.

6) Camera is the same as the s4 in which to say for me it's great. If your often taking pictures in dark dingy bafly lit rooms then yes you might find it wanting, but if we're talking normal daylight conditions then it takes fantastic shots. I have posted many photos here previously.

I did it! I pulled the trigger and got the note 3! My goodness this thing is amazing!! So far I'm loving it! I have notice a little bit of like a dirty screen effect on solid color backgrounds. I don't know if this is an AMOLED issue or if I have a defective screen. I can exchange it if it bothers me enough but I'm just really impressed so far with the performance thus far.

Yeah that dirty screen effect doesn't sound right. If you can exchange it sooner rather than later and save yourself hassles of re-installing everything or losing music / photos etc...

Enjoy the phone and experiment a lot as there are so many features of the Note 3 that even if you only like 1/2 of them - that's still a considerable amount of stuff to enjoy :)

Hm. This dirty screen thing sounds a bit like my Note 2. I noticed a few weeks after buying it that the screen had this discolored field, like a smudge but not on the surface. It's only visible when I have the brightness turned way down or on solid dark colors (but not on pure black). I figured it was a burned-out amoled thing but it had to have been there before I started using it, so it can't be from any persistant whites due to my use.

I've been too lazy to send the phone in for repair (this thing really doesn't bother me at all unless I watch movies or play games with a lot of dark colors) but now that I'm thinking of selling it I kind of regret that :( Hope I can still get it fixed on warranty and that they don't claim it's my fault due to normal use.

(Does anyone here know - how fast can you cause burn out marks on amoled screens due to persistant bright colors in a single spot? Possible in 6 months/can they claim it's just from normal use?)

Anyway, I'd get that checked out. A new screen shouldn't have anything like that, amoled or not. Especially not the Note 3 screen which is getting all those rave reviews.

I just started getting this as well. Annoying. Please let me know if you find a resolution?

Seems to be Samsung's security giving us a false positive - there doesn't seem a particular trigger by all accounts, but it seems just clicking ok and ignoring it does the trick. :)

I understand your concern but android can't be selective for just you, that's why there are 3rd party options out there. I really hate the lock screen approach on iOS 7 because a, you can't dismiss any notifications until you actually unlock the screen and steer towards the notification shade, and b, all your notifications are there for anybody to see when your device is supposed to be locked. This approach is what defeats the purpose of having any sort of security measures on your phone. I think because people are so used to it, they've come to accept this as some sort of standard. All the while it seems so illogical.

Good example, my chase banking app sends me balance notifications that show up on the lock screen, so somebody could get a glance view of my account without even having to unlock my phone. That's crazy. If I turn off show on lock screen, them I have no notification until I unlock my phone and attend to the badge number or dive into the notification shade. That could be hours if I don't even know I have a notification at all. At least with android, I have a blinking light to catch my attention and when I look at the screen it notifies me with an icon on what I need to attend to.

Thanks, hope that's all it is. In regards to your other post - Woo Kit Kat!

I wasn't comparing iOS and Android. I was comparing Google Android with Samsung Android. Samsung has hobbled what is a great feature of stock Android with the way they implemented lock screen widgets.

Again, if your app gives you control over what and how much you want to display on the lock screen, security is not a big concern. In my case, on my lock screen, I can set the widget to show me just the sender's id and not the body of the text.

Having problems with my 2nd S4 unit and looks like I may possibly get to break out of my S4 AT&T 2-year deal and can either go contract-free with a Nexus 5 or jump back into a 2-year deal and go Note 3. Biased thread, I'm aware.... but thoughts?
