Most beautiful phone to look at.....not so much when you use it after a while.

Still had plenty of stock at BB, Target, and T-Mo in my area. All colors too. Local garage sale sites only had 3 for sale at around $600-$750 for an S8+

Seems to me the Note 7 debacle has to factor into this in both directions.

- Some people are less likely to buy Samsung anymore after the Note 7
- Some people are desperate for a new phone because they had to turn in their Note 7

I'm going to guess that more people were in category 2 than category 1 and that helped push sales up for Samsung (among other things).

I disagree with that the S8 and S8+ are truly great phones. I'm not saying that your two listed reasons aren't part of the equation just wouldn't those are the only two reasons. Most of the people I know, myself included returned our note 7 for a S7E

This might be the best most underrated feature of the S8, so many people nowadays do everything on their smartphones and may not even buy a laptop/tablet, imagine docking your phone and editing powerpoint/excel/word photos/videos, well Samsung did it:

I'm thinking about picking it up, but am caught between whether I should or not. I'm hearing there's latency issues with it. I'd be great to get though I could bring a bluetooth keyboard and my phone only to class and take notes and have everything saved locally on my phone while I type a paper in word.

Um, okay? Hope it sells well for them, although if I was in Android land, I'd get a Pixel over the S8, easy choice.

This is the Mac / iOS rumors site though, not the Samsung one....the Samsung one has the S8 forums where they're talking about the smudged camera lenses they get from the fingerprint scanner location or that Bixby doesn't work, what patch they have to download so their screens aren't red tinted etc..

Samsung's trouble with the Galaxy Note 7, which notably caused several fires due to battery troubles and led to a full recall, hasn't negatively affected demand for its newly launched Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.

Fixed that for you. I think demand may have actually been boosted by the debacle, since most people who had (or wanted) the Note 7 likely still want the latest and greatest Samsung phone, and now have all the more reason to upgrade. This would be akin to how the removal of the headphone jack with the iPhone 7 likely caused many Apple fans to simply wait for the next iPhone release instead of upgrading from their 6/6S.

Here's a message you might see with the new Samsung phone. Totally not confusing. At all.

I'm tempted, but the new iPhone 8 leaks look amazing. All glass and metal, and virtually zero bezels on the front. I just got the iPhone 7 in September though, I'll wait until the fall.

Galaxy S8 Preorders Were Samsung's 'Best Ever'

As they should be. Samsung put together a heck of a phone. I used one in-store and it's a beauty to hold. Kudos to them.
You held it in the store and were able to tell it's one heck of a phone? How's the software and battery life? What about the red screen tint some are complaining about?

At launch, Bixby doesn't speak, but the button and the service does actually function (well, except for Verizon who turned off the shopping-via-camera feature).

I was getting thoroughly bored with my iPhone 7 Plus that felt even less incremental of an upgrade from my iPhone 6s Plus, and even more miffed about iOS' restrictions and lack of robustness in many of its features, so thanks to T-Mobile's JUMP! on Demand program, I turned it in and got an S8 Plus in its place.

It really does have that wow factor and many of the things I wished iOS could do has been here even before Android OS 7.0 Nougat.

This is the reaction that most iPhone users have when they actually give a good Android device an open minded try. iPhone/ios are a good steady device/operating system but definitely can be boring and the GUI interface could definitely be cleaner. I mean rows of icons that autorange top left is honestly one my biggest annoyances really hope they clean this up and make the springboard more functional.

With how good both operating systems are these days best to go with the nicest piece of hardware and the S8 is definitely tops in that category from a display and modern style point of view at least.

Don't forget about the facial recognition that can be unlocked with a photo.

Well, Samsung offers a lot of free stuff for pre-order, you can get a 2 for 1 deal, you can get free VR Gear, etc.

Apple doesn't have to offer anything else, it will be heaven for all Apple users if we could buy one, get one free.
Closest I've seen were by cell providers... buy 1 get one free iPhones, although IIRC, those were models from 1 or 2 gens ago.

Another thing is, Samsung probably needs an extra push after the Note 7 flub, but for all I know, this push could be big!

While I can see the intended appeal... wouldn't these productivity-focused people already have some sort of laptop or desktop computer?

The answer is an absolute YES.

The laptop is the ultimate portable computer. It works anywhere. It's a complete standalone solution. Whether you're in your office plugged into a big monitor... or in a hotel room... or conference room... the laptop works.

This is a solved problem.

Can you imagine the pushback if your IT department swaps out your current phone and laptop with a Galaxy S8 and a DeX dock?

Yeah... you can get a "computer-like" experience at your desk... but lord help you if you want to work literally anywhere else.

Again... I understand the idea... your phone is the "brain" and you can plug into a screen and keyboard at your desk for big-screen work.

However... the laptop already does this... and it goes with you. It's a complete package... screen and keyboard and all.

Samsung trying to recreate all of Google's good work on services will limit their potential.

The placement of their fingerprint reader next to the camera show what they really are (and are not).

I have used galaxy phones before, this is so much improved. Definitely not in par with the smoothness and joy of iOS but the veraety of things you can do that you can't on iOS is actually tempting. Just hope Apple would give a tad bit more options on iOS, without compromising security of course. Love the security on iOS devices.

What are some options you would prefer on iOS? Customization stuff? Colors?
