I wish people knew how to use the word "humbling." Having your former flagship phone blow up and recalled is humbling.

The same thing gets said in sports all the time. Losing the championship game is humbling. Winning it is not.

I played with my friend's S8+ yesterday and it was really nice. Made me miss Android and the Samsung skin for a while, but then I went back to my 7 Plus and realized how well it's integrated with my Mac. My 7 Plus doesn't have stupid bugs that crop up, apps running haywire, battery life issues, etc. It just works and it works very well. I actually use Apple Pay a lot more than I was using Samsung Pay on my old Note 5. Apple Pay works every time, unlike with Samsung Pay where I had to try a couple of times to get it to complete the transaction. Yes the 7 Plus does look dated next to the S8 and S8+, but until i switched over to an iPhone, I didn't realize how well these phones work.
I wonder if, in real world use, Samsung's skin/bloat is better now than it used to be. People seem to say that it is. I have an Nexus phone running stock Android and the experience is terrific, but I haven't used a Galaxy S7 or S8 day-to-day. I do ponder whether the S8 will slow down after six plus months of use.

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the iPhone, seeing that you were originally an Android guy/gal. I haven't been satisfied with iOS since iOS 6. Call me one of those guys "living in the past," if you want, but that was the last bug-free version of iOS that I used. I've encountered numerous visual glitches and bugs from iOS 7 on, and so in my personal experience, I don't find iOS that much smoother than Android. Perhaps no smoother at all. Perhaps I'm holding the iPhone to too high of a standard, as iOS is much more advanced now than it was years ago. With more features come more chances of bugs.

I agree on the Mac integration and Apple Pay performance (I haven't ever used Apple Pay myself, but many here seem to be very pleased with it). Apple's closed system definitely plays to their advantage in those scenarios.

S8 preorders are good for the same reason MBP 2016 sales were supposedly good - pent up demand. All Samsung have to do is make a non-explody phone this time around

Don't know why some on here have such a hard time giving Samsung props for coming out with a legit game changer in design. The S8 is absolutely stunning and it does indeed make my iPhone look old as hell, with the over sized bezels, dated resolution, and a phone design that's 3yrs old. Instead of giving Sammy props, there's the usual "well Samsung is only doing good b/c..." "The S8 is only popular b/c...." excuses.

Both Apple and Samsung make great devices. I own products from both companies and can recognize that they both make excellent devices. But Samsung is killing it with the S8. Absolutely gorgeous device. And it deserves all the praise it gets. The only thing about the S8 that I don't like is the fingerprint sensor. Other than that, solid 10s across the board. I'm hoping the Samsung's excellent device will push Apple to come out with a solid iPhone this fall. I want Samsung to push Apple and Apple to push Samsung. It's great for us consumers

I've never really been a fan of android devices, not even a fan of the past Samsung phones, but damn the S8+ is sexy as hell. If it wasn't for the headaches and instability of Android OS, I would have jumped ship and pre-ordered the Samsung.

Now it's up to Apple to release theirs, but I have a feeling the iPhone 8 won't be all it's cracked up to be once it's released, or maybe I'm expecting too much.

I would kill to have the Galaxy S8+ body running iOS though.

Beautiful phone, no doubt. But you honestly feel that the software on the S8 is a 10? I know, for me, that is the main reason I can't give Samsung much props. A rectangular screen (although beautiful, and I would hope considering they make them) is only as good as the software behind it.

Duh, sales of the S8 are high because every previous Samsung phone will burn your house down and you must surrender it at the airport and you cannot use it on planes!

Samsung better hope that they fixed that on the S8!

Touchwiz (Samsung experience) has gotten a lot better IMO. And this is coming from a person, who absolutely hates Samsung's android skin. It's crazy smooth. And android 7 is awesome in its own. So yeah, solid 10 to me. Like I said before, the only about the S8 that irks me is the fingerprint scanner. I get why Samsung did it but I still hate the location of it

Fair enough. At least we each have a choice.

Looking at that edge-to-edge screen, all I can say is this as far as mobile phone evolution can go? Before I am accused of bashing Samsung and not Apple, the same applies to the rumours about the next iPhone. I honestly don't care about edge-to-edge screens, curved glass etc. What I do care about is battery life, signal reception, robustness, construction quality, and getting things done with my phone.
Buy a Galaxy s7 Active.

I believe it. You make a phone with kick ass hardware, you get a huge bump.

Iphones need a price drop with a 3 year old form factor, inferior screens, inferior assistant (assuming Bixby is better than crappy Siri, how can it not be! Even now i cringe at the Iphone 7

If Samsung killed it's bloat ware, it would be really cut into Apple. My prediction is Pixel 2 will swallow massive market share. I suspect Apple will really hold back the tech in the Iphone 8 because of supply issues, putting out another lame duck phone.

That's what I am asking though, like what? What options do you get?

Better file management is #1 for me, I just drag/drop photos and videos, no need to sync through iTunes.

I also barely found out about launchers and have a new love for android. You can truly make it your own phone. Managed to whip up the home screen below and I'm a total newbie!

The one thing that amazes me is that Samsung can release a flagship phone, selling millions without a single word of shortages, yet before the next iPhone is even released, word is that is will be SEVERELY constrained (translation, will sell out in minutes after midnight but Apple will celebrate the best sales ever).

If the iPhone disappoints this will be my next phone. It is fantastic.

It won't. And you know it, you would not be here otherwise.

I am always amazed at how plastic the Samsung phones look. Would never buy one. I am not saying I would never buy an android phone but Samsung make crappy looking phones. People seem to have forgotten the 80s, Samsung was terrible then, faking it now.

it's a nice piece of hardware, it's really a do or die for Samsung as the failures they have had last year. Most do not realize they make very little money on their mobile division. They finally since S7 an have a exterior that feels and looks premium. Never going to buy one, but if I was a android person I would be excited and would preorder.

I read a few articles saying Samsung is building 20 million S8/S8+ for its initial run.

Is that for the whole quarter? Or some unspecified amount of time that is considered the "launch" ?

I've also seen analysts saying Samsung will build a total of 50 million S8/S8+

Is that for the entire year?

These numbers seem low...

Headaches and instabilities of Android OS??? Where is this coming from? You do realize Google has made countless updates to Android in effort to improve user experience.

Maybe you have had your share of bad experiences of Android OS in the past, but Android is pretty awesome. I enjoy it..
