Rumor has it the placement of the fingerprint sensor was a last minute design concession based on two factors: Samsung/Synaptics couldn't reliably make the under glass reader work consistently and ...

That oft-repeated rumor makes no technical sense to me. It sounds like a typical story started by someone on the internet which hasn't paid much attention to Synpatics's plans.

Synaptics' under glass sensor was NEVER meant to be used under a display. Only under a glass bezel.

Synaptics themselves have said that they'd be more likely to do an optical based sensor when they do in-display technology, since the pixels themselves can act as illumination and sensors.

Samsung innovated an edge-to-edge display. Apple pushed out 3D Touch. Curious: Who has the more innovative and utilitarian display design?

For me, Samsung's feat is a game changer. Could this be the iPhone killer? That OLED crushes, destroys, humiliates any fancy gimmickry 3D Touch offers: app switching, Peek and Pop, new gameplay mechanics, trackpad mode, Quick Actions. If anything, it's great that Apple's got some fierce design competition.

3D Touch is by far more useful than an edge to edge display cosmetic whether it were Apples or Samsungs.

This might be the best most underrated feature of the S8, so many people nowadays do everything on their smartphones and may not even buy a laptop/tablet, imagine docking your phone and editing powerpoint/excel/word photos/videos, well Samsung did it:

You mean like Handoff?

To play devil's advocate, get enough updates on the iPhone, and that'll slow down. This is coming from people I've talked with in person, as I couldn't say as I use Android and not iPHone.

Never had an iPhone slow down due to software and I've owned nearly all of them. The only slow down you may get is updating software to an old iPhone that it was not suitably intended for.

Switched from iPhone 7 to Galaxy S8 and what a difference it is. The iPhone 7 looks dated, pixelated and boring compared to the beautiful S8.

It looks exactly like the S8.

In that both are without bezel. Otherwise no it doesn't. Oh and iPhone 8 is t out yet so there's that.

So many iPhone owners jumping ship and the Note 8 which is the king hasn't even been released yet. Don't blame them though since iPhone design, services and OS have become stale and 3rd rate.

Most beautiful phone to look at.....not so much when you use it after a while.

Still had plenty of stock at BB, Target, and T-Mo in my area. All colors too. Local garage sale sites only had 3 for sale at around $600-$750 for an S8+

The haterrade is apparent........the s8 plus is a amazing device....you should not talk

LOL...it's 2017 and people are still talking about the screen as Samsung's primary feature.

I have a Galaxy S8+, and it's the most beautiful device I've ever owned. I recommend normal people get the regular S8 though.

I literally no complaints about it. It's never happened before. I usually have some complaint about a device.

Handoff requires a separate often expensive computer which requires separate maintenance, warranty, care etc. And most apps don't have good integration, heck most don't have any integration at all.

If you own a great phone, with excellent and fast CPU, why not harness that power via a dock? Seems like the logical next step in the post-PC saga, or no?

Of course, and unfortunately for Apple it's an impossible proposition as it'd clash with it's product lines, they want to profit by having you buy all separate devices even if there is quite a bit of overlapping functionality among them.

If it can be done right.

The implementations by Samsung and Microsoft thus far leave much to be desired.

Rumor has it the placement of the fingerprint sensor was a last minute design concession based on two factors: Samsung/Synaptics couldn't reliably make the under glass reader work consistently and the dimensions of the narrow, but tall battery. The fp sensor was basically shoehorned into that location.

Yep, still hate it tho. I'm hoping they can have it positioned properly for the Note 8 or atleast the S9

You're arguing a completely different point than the one I was making. I wasn't arguing if Apple's marketing is the good, the bad, or the ugly. When I stated they were the "kings of", I was specifically talking about being kings of the ambiguous quotes about best sales ever, fastest selling since, biggest opening weekend, etc. all without supporting numbers.

As for what you're talking about, I think Apple's marketing dept is still the best in the biz. That's not to say every ad is the best, but the marketing dept is the best. Marketing goes beyond ads. Apple's marketing strength is in it's ability to get others to inadvertently advertise for them. Movies, TV, video, sports events all showcasing their products - most not even needing paid placement.

Pretty much all this. Tbh, I've always been impressed with Apple's marketing and how powerful the brand really is. They could release an iPhone 3G and call it the iPhone 8S and many would still buy it and proclaim it the best thing ever

Is this macrumors or sucksung rumors website?

Even more "sucksung" parts are being used in the next iPhone so that has to count for something. Every time you look at the next iPhone just think about Sucksung for a moment.

This is why I'm sticking with Apple. But your average consumers can care less about frame drops here and there or slow software updates. People want sexy over function nowadays and will live with those shortcomings. A great majority of people don't even pay attention to news like this.
