I'm not sure what you are all smoking but this thing is ugly. The aspect ratio is a joke 16:9 is pretty much the only content anyone consumes and now they want you to use pillar boxes or cut off heads! The curved edges screen reflections and the all black look is not my thing. Touchwiz or whatever jizz Samsung are calling it is just not nice, stock android or nothing IMO, the lag they add over stock is horrible. The screen out the box isn't at native res so all these reviews seem flawed or the screen is too high res than needed and reviewers didn't bother to test. There are so many things wrong with this phone for me from design language to specs, give me a new pixel or any other Chinese make over Samsung. Lets at least hope it doesn't explode on people this time.

I hope apple can avoid the pitfalls of removing the screen bezels that Samsung has fallen into. 16:9 is a must, I will be buying the first phone that gets it right.

Delete. Wrong thread.
[doublepost=1492536254][/doublepost]Samsung need to release a Galaxy Fire edition to compete with Kindle. Oh, wait...

I don't get the fascination with an all-display front. Yeah, you get more screen area but usability takes a hit -- especially for one handed use. As to the reviewer who said the i7+ is just fine one handed... bah! I think because it's novel to have all screen everyone goes all silly. Maybe in a few years the phablet + total screen fad will finally take a back seat to good, strong ergonomics. Probably won't happen but that's just how I see things :)

Samsung went too far with the size of the phone.
I have been using it for more than a day now (I am not even a press guy) and it is very awkward to use especially one-handedly. S8+ is just pure insanity. No phone needs to be that large, it is taller than Note 7 and other phablets and is very easy to drop.
And the glare and blur on edges is not good at all. YES, display is amazing, great detail, contrast, but I don't want edge display! I want flat....and they done goofed here.
Not everyone wants curved phones, Samsung.

You should have bought the LG G6...

Apple is lucky it has such a loyal following. There's probably several people here that are very tempted to get this new phone, but won't because they need/want the ecosystem and the OS update consistency. Apple, get your shi* together and start competing with Samsung.

Apple will eat Samsung's lunch if they can get a huge display on the front with Touch ID integrated into the display. If they put the button on the back, then they're no better than Samsung. Why bother? It goes against every design principle Apple has ever had about the iPhone to put the button on the back. I don't think it will happen. Either we'll get a redesigned iPhone this year or we won't, but it won't have that stupid button on the back.

Apple already has been eating Samsung's lunch for 6 years. There never has been a single quarter that Galaxy phones outsold iPhones!

Has the exploding battery problem been confirmed to be fixed? Are these allowed on airplanes?

What?

I'm also interested to see whether or not the S8 has beaten the iPhone 7 specs yet. Weren't they still having trouble beating the 6s in most benchmarks? It will be really interesting to see what Apple's custom GPU can do.
As I've been told many times on this forum. Specs don't matter... well, unless they support your argument.:D:p Yeah, they matter then. ;). Seriously. Does it have a decent camera? A good screen? Those two things have sold more phones than any SoC, NAND, or Enclave.

AppleInsider is reporting that the S8+'s battery is very similar to the Note 7's. Beware!

YouTuber JerryRigEverything had a chance to "play" with the battery after an S8 was destroyed. Normally when you penetrate a lithium battery with a foreign metal object the battery will catch on fire. When he did this to the S8 battery there was no fire; it just got hot. LG appears to be doing the same with the LG 6.
So just because a battery looks the same doesn't mean that it's constructed the same. Sort of like comparing iPhone 6 to 6S.

o_O
:p

I briefly used an LG G4 with the button on the back and I hated it. No buttons or touch ID on the back. Hope Apple can "innovate my ass" here.
I used the G4 and had no problems with it on the back. But the G4 has a nice double tap feature to wake/lock screen. Hope Apple has it built into the display though.

The 8+ is exactly why Apple's iCloud ecosystem is so important for lock in. I had the "misfortune" to see and hold one of these things and it makes my 7+ feel like an antique, not dissimilar from the way my first iPhone made my old Blackberry feel.

I know you can port everything over, and operate within an iOS environment (my family all have iPhones, we share calendars, iTunes sharing/accounts, etc.) but doing so is a PITA despite what many of the "easy" switching guides indicate.

Said another way - if I could use iCloud on this I'd buy an 8+ so fast it'd make your head spin.

Apple better deliver with the iPhone X or whatever it'll be called. They have real competition on the hardware side now.

I've been slowly migrating iCloud over to a combination of O365/Google services in recent months to make a move one day easier, it's not really all that bad and their respective web app front ends are light years ahead of Apple. iMessage is about the only thing that'll be a pain frankly, and WhatsApp/Telegram plug that hole quite nicely.

Maybe it's not "luck" as to why they have a broad and wide customer base. People buy what they want for their own reasons, not through someone's specific filter.

So basically The Verge gave it a 9 because they like the industrial design. The camera is essentially the same as last year but they put it in the good column. If Apple released a new phone with next to no camera improvements The Verge would nail them for it. And big screen but not a big phone? Are you kidding me? All phones are massive these days. Just because some of the bezel was replaced by screen doesn't mean the phone isn't still big. Oh and average battery life was based on 1080p setting. I can only image how bad it would be if you use the WQHD setting. Of course now every one in the tech press will say who needs more than 1080p anyway.

Still bloatware Samsung is on the devices which I will never use unless it's pure android

Wait until you try the iPhone 8 this Fall Pat, you're going to be in love and forget about the S8 real fast.
Not really. Because the Note 8 is going to fix the flaws on the S8 and release close to the iPhone 8 with an even gorgeous display and design
