Apple doing in-app purchases? They better not take anything away from people who paid for all of these apps.

That's my initial fear. If I update the app, will I lose the current sound sets that I presumably paid for with my initial purchase? If it's the same app, but with even more content available, that's fine with me. If I update and end up losing some sounds and functionality, that wouldn't be good.

So, a big **** YOU to people who paid for the apps?

Typical.

Do those apps no longer work for those people?

Before... when people that purchased and believed the value they would receive for the cost of the applications was a net positive for them... that equation changes because new people get them for free?

Can someone explain the logic here beyond jealousy?

Is Apple always supposed to charge the exact same thing forever... regardless of the potential changes to the market... competition... economic changes? Just so some people don't feel like someone might get a better deal than them in the future?

Licensing fees associated with some of those sounds had been the presumed reason why GarageBand was left out the original move to make Apple's iLife and iWork apps for iOS free of charge, and it appears that the company has settled on in-app purchases as a way around this issue, offering basic functionality for free and then premium content through the paid upgrade options.

I've been wondering why they didn't make GarageBand free with the others, that makes sense.

Really curious as to how Apple has approached these very skeuomorphic apps, especially Garageband.

This is good. We pay for these apps when we buy expensive Apple hardware. Including these with new devices helps iOS stand out from Android.

Hope OS X 10.9, iWork and iLife follow.

In the description for Garageband, it says up to 32 tracks. Is that new? I thought I remember it only supporting up to 8 tracks.

iBooks icon has not been updated to mach iOS 7 same for find my friends and Movie Trailers to name a few others.

If you click on learn more for each of the apps, it says page not found. I guess the pages won't work until Tuesday.

Also, the iPhone picture above the iLife apps is stretched.

Apple's website quality control is not very good right now.

Not true.

GarageBand is free on the App Store for all iOS 7 compatible devices; additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available with an in-app purchase. iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are free on the App Store for qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013. See www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/ for iOS 7 compatible devices. Downloading apps requires an Apple ID.

Looking forward to seeing what they've done with iWork. I bought iPhoto for my iPhone a while ago and I don't think I've used it once. In its current state it's pretty much useless compared to other apps.

Garageband is the only app that I'm wary of the skeumorphism being stripped out. It's good to take it out of the interface, but I'm worried about the instruments. I hope the instruments stay the same because the skeumorphism really benefits that aspect.

Various websites have had the change of icon stories for the last couple of days. Usually MacRumours leads with the Apple news but this time they are days behind.

If you read the story, you will see that it is not that same story from last week.

How can anyone think the iOS 7 icons are an improvement?

The only positive to the new icons is they fit in better with the other horrible iOS 7 icons.

If I get a new iPad Mini (preloaded with iOS7) once it's released am I able to use these apps on my iPhone 5 if I haven't paid for them?

That's a pretty good move to make GarageBand free.

I think there's a lot of things in that app that make it overwhelming for people who just want to throw some tracks down with their own instrument and microphone.

I bet most of those who are complaining don't even use the app day in and out. They just toy with it every few months.

I much prefer it on the desktop side to be honest.

I prefer Cubasis, $49.99, but was worth every penny.

You can see that they are going in the same direction now, but there still are differences. The top ones have a subtle gradient on the white icon and the background gradients are in reverse and more pronounced. I still don't understand the reason for the different colours, however. Is there a particular reason why, for instance, numbers is green? (and the exact same green as the phone app, messages app and FaceTime app.)
