I know I'm beating a dead horse but...

How can anyone think the iOS 7 icons are an improvement?

The only positive to the new icons is they fit in better with the other horrible iOS 7 icons.

Shouldn't it be about the functionality of the app and not how detailed the icon design are? I'd rather Apple employees spend time on new and improved functionality, like a real competitor to Google Now.

I bought Garageband, but don't mind it going free. But I will be annoyed if what I paid for is stripped out and I have to use IAP to get the content back.

Could Apple legally do that? Wouldn't that be essentially charging you for the same thing twice?

Apple make it easy for yourself and just make all iLife and iWork apps free instead of, "qualifying iOS 7 compatible devices activated on or after September 1, 2013".

i dont understand why apple isnt simply making them free in general. such cheaps!

Because that would likely cause a bigger uproar and dumb demands for reimbursing everyone who bought these years ago (like myself). I paid for them when they came out and have had years of use. So they are free now, big whop.

Waaaaaah, waaaaaah, waaaaaaah.

I paid for these apps, and I also think it's great they are free for current and future iOS device buyers.

Stop whining. Their making these free isn't a slight to people who paid for them, but rather a bonus to people who buy the latest iOS devices.

Exactly. If you didn't buy a new iOS device after September 1 of this year, haven't purchased these apps yet, then (1) you obviously had no use for them that you felt paying for them was an option, so (2) when you eventually do upgrade your phone or iPad, you can get them free then. Wow, those jerks at Apple.

If I get a new iPad Mini (preloaded with iOS7) once it's released am I able to use these apps on my iPhone 5 if I haven't paid for them?
Yes. My sister and a friend of mine both never bought all the iWork apps and got them free when they activated their 5s. They were able to install on iPads.

I think iOS 7 apps are better, easily, iOS 6 icons just looked very dated

wait what?

..in app purchases? does this mean I have to re pay for **** I already bought? this is a bad move apple. You have just become a Chinese app cloning free app maker. no offence to non criminal app cloning Chinese people.

Of course functionality is important, but design is arguably the biggest reason Apple became the most valuable company in the world. That's why I think it's important for them to keep producing good designs, in both hardware and software, and even something as simple as an icon. :)

And this is where we'll never get everyone to agree. Some people like the more detailed designs that look life like, others like more simple/clean designs. For me I stick all my icons in folders so I don't really care what they look like. :)

Good design is bigger than calling in a few rock stars from the marketing department to shake up what your product development team can't work out on its own. This is rock star design management at its worst and Apple still makes a point of not listening to their customers.

They are all gone! Apple took them down as I was checking them out. Only the new iMovie icon was there and then I refreshed and poof, iOS 6 style again.

I like the new icons! I never use them on my iPhone though, screen's too small, and I really need a physical keyboard if I'm typing a lot (on Pages).

Well you could hook your BT keyboard to your iPhone, although I agree it's not practical.

I like it because I can open a word document on the go. I don't use it to write essays, but it's nice to be able to look at and maybe make small edits on.
