The fate of Any Gays Here

Chip,
About a week ago I'd PM'd Brian0523, asking if he'd be agreeable to renaming his thread to something like "The GayWay" The title has of course stayed the same and I've not received a reply from him.

I have just emailed Brian this time, restating the problems rah rah rah, and hope that he'll give the suggestion due consideration.

I guess time will tell if we'll need to restart a new thread for the 'family' and their friends. I don't know if petitioning mods requesting a name change can be made by the populace, or if it's up to the original poster.

Grey Beard
aka Kevin.

I am the creator of the original post. My intention was not for it to be an outpost for any political agenda, but rather just an innocent question that was on my mind at the time. Do gays indeed visit this forum, and maybe it would be fun to "come out" and identify ourselves as such and have fun with it.

Going back and reading the incredible amount of pages and pages of responses - I think it's very cool that a small initial thought grew to such an outpouring of responses and coversation. Even more encouraging is the lack of trolls and negative/hateful posts.

When I made the first posting - I though surely it would be deleted within a day or so due to member objections. Myself - and others - are very pleased that this wasn't the case. I would ask that the MacRumors team allow this thread of healthy discussion and sharing continue here on the forums. Personally, I don't care if a specific sub-topic for gay Mac users is created. It makes no difference to me. I don't want - nor would I ever ask for extra special consideration for my being gay; however, I do ask that the forum leaders take this opportunity to be fair and allow this topic and future topics to continue.

BTW, Gary, what time is best for you for a meet and greet. I till want to see you on Airline.

Probably later next month, which is perfect color time for picture taking in Annapolis (or DC). I have back surgery this Thursday, and then I am going down to Saint Mary's GA to go through more of my dad's stuff (ugh) a week or so after.

You name the place and time! :D

I don't believe that the creator of a thread can retitle the thread, a mod has to do that. Any changes made to the original post, more specifically to the title field of the original post, only show up inside the thread. That's my understanding, at least.

OK, perspective check, you guys do realize we've had several gay threads in the past, and members have been out on the board for years. This is not some new thing we have to deal with.

Doesn't sound like the Powers That Be are worried about closing this thread down, so I'm not worried about it either. Why would we need our own forum, just to exclude all of the straight people here that have been so welcoming?

I'm a little sad for this.

Kevin/Grey Beard recommended the title, so there's at least 1 other person. But now that I think about it 'GayWay - the gay and lesbian discussion' would sound better than 'gay/lesbian'.

edit - looks good edesignuk, thanks :D.

I saw Margaret Cho this past Thursday night. Her opening act, Bruce Daniels, said "To the white gay men, latinos are the equivalent of a trophy wife." My boyfriend looked at me with a concerned look on his face.

He's from Venezuela. ;)

P.S.: I'm a big ol' 'mo.

Sorry for pulling this out from the first page or so, but I've only just decided to read this thread! Thats just too funny as my best mate has a Cuban-American boyfriend, and he'll that quote hilarious.

In fact he should read this thread since he was the first person I know to get a Mac, which became the first Mac I'd ever used for a period longer than 2 seconds in a shop - which resulted in The Switch for me (and yes, I meant the Mac switch ;) just another "breeder" here:D )

I'm confused. Why the new name? I wake up and this is the first thing I see. Man...throws you for a loop. Oh well.

Not that it's bad thing. Just wondering why is all.

Congrats! here is hoping that you get a role opposite Jody or Ellen.

Ha-ha! Actually, I have to murder a cop in this role. The guy playing the cop is an actual Chicago Firefighter. How tasty is that? :) Much better than Ellen I'd have to say. ;) Thanks for the words scem0 and chip.

hey- I like the new thread title.

There's a weekly meeting for gay policemen, firefighters, and service people in NYC. I've thought about going just to scout things out :).

In keeping with what was discussed in the site and forum feedback thread, you guys can create new gay-related topics in new threads. Not all rumination on being gay don't necessarily have to be in this one-looonnngg thread.

Unless of course, you feel safer keeping all discussions in one thread.

True. A "Fresh" thread rather than a really, really long thread.

I think the reason we've kept it here is that all the other gay threads inevitably get invaded and become political and that's so tired. People have respected the non-political nature of this thread so far for the most part, which is nice.

Rowwwr...Uh, I mean thanks for introducing yourself, Audun.

I think by the time my photo project is up, and chatting with you I'll be Scandinavian.
LOL ... and what do you mean by that  :)

Has anyone been to Montpellier and know of any gay clubs or bars? I'm still letting myself get "excited" by Emerson's fresh look on things and I want to go dancing instead of sitting in my hotel room waiting for the next day of intensive cluster programming theory :D

I'm going to see if I can find some info on that on the vast internet ... I tried to ask in the reception of the hotel, but I only got to know the area where the most bars are. I chickened out and didn't ask for gay bars in particular.

A quick google search didn't bring up much, but La Villa Rouge sounds pretty fun.

I want to go out tonight, kind of, but Tuesday nights are kind of dead, even in New York City .

Good luck finding somewhere to dance :). It's not always easy, and it's disappointing sometimes.

*Just got out of the shower*

FranceGuide for the Gay traveller tells me that New THT is the oldest gay bar in the city. I'll go there and have a drink, but I too suspect that it will be quite dead and not much action on the dance floor.

I'll report back tomorrow ;)

Quite by accident, my grad-school girlfriend and I fell in with the LGBT cops at the 1997 NYC Pride parade. They were behind our contingent (something from NYU) and we were slow. It felt weird - like, you know, Queers in real uniforms with real guns. I really respected them, especially given that at the time their co-workers were gaybashing/trannybashing out on the Piers.

[Edit]: Of course, the tendency for police to carry real guns comes in helpful at an event like Folsom Street Fair (which we just had in SF). It seems like every year at the fair, at least once, myself or one of my friends who needs the police for something accidently walks up to a real uniformed-out gayboy and is like, "um, excuse me sir, will they tow my car if it's parked on 7th Street?" That's always good for some laughs, but we've learned to spot the real police by closer examination of their belts: gun=cop, no gun=uniform fetish.
