i like my wired EarPods and my solar powered watch. I don't need to charge either of them. i wrap the wire of the EarPods with velcro so they never get tangled. There is no significant value add with the iWatch. I have better things to do with my money.

Wrong. It’s subjective. These pics look horrendous because of the people, I’ve seen men and women that they actually look pretty awesome with AirPods on. But these guys are clearly nerds, and look even more so with the airpods. You gotta be good looking first

Besides, Watch is a platform and AirPods are an accessory.
Besides telling time, what good is an iWatch without an accompanying iPhone? I would not call an iWatch a platform until all of its functionality (alerts, messages, email, tracking, phone calls, ect...) can be accomplished without another device.

I've said it before... AirPods are poorly designed, ergonomically they're a mess. I'll stick with my Dash Pro that stay in my ear and good luck to all those who feel they must stay in the Apple ecosphere, even when badly designed.

You can say that EarPods/AirPods are poorly designed, and yet, they seem to fit into the vast majority of ears out there. So how bad are they really?

Apple Watch is no fad.

If you buy one you might see that some of the little things it does are convenient and worth wearing a wristwatch for.

I never wore a wristwatch for 20 years, but since I am an Apple Fanboy I tried Apple Watch - now I love it.

Heart Rate measurements
Swimming lap counter/timer with heart rate.

Running HR and GPS.

Bluetooth music to AirPods while running.

At a glance I can see messages, take a phone call even, use Siri to send a message back etc etc.

What else? Lots else.

Stock price, weather at a glance.

It even tells time.

The three top things you listed are all workout related. Working out isn't going anywhere, and there will be a market for wearables, but it's reaching its growth limit. People that wear an Apple watch "to wear an Apple watch" will all be gone within a few years and that's a large portion of the Apple Watch install base.

I admit calling it a "fad" is incorrect, as a fad needs to be something that has universal appeal (which the Apple Watch doesn't). It's a quickly plateauing platform that will see sales plummet much further than what we're seeing today with the iPad. It's going to be a shrinking market.

How do the Airpods compare to the non Apple equivalents that are out there?
I've only tried a few Bluetooth headphones over the last 12 months - maybe 6 total. None that are truly wireless like the AirPods or Bragi. Also tested with a few friends that have similar BT headphones (<$50). AirPods are the best sounding Bluetooth headphones I've heard that are "earpod" or "in-ear" style. I'd say over/on-ear BT cans are going to sound better, but that's a different category (and expectation).

Here are 11 that look to be truly wireless that I found a bit ago. Strange thing is Apple actually looks to be less expensive then many. Shocking :)

Now that I think about it...I think I like the wire that connects both earbuds on many of the lower priced earbuds. I just realized how often I pull them out of my ear, and have them around my neck for storage when my ears get tired, or need to talk to someone.

If apple watch will become a track for glucose and these things that we heard on rumours, the holy grail, then apple watch will become a "must have" device, like a phone

Revenue ought to exceed the watches in a year or less. AirPods serve an entirely different market that is much larger than the watch market.

The only possible catch here is what will happen with the Watch when sub 7nm processes are shipping. When that happens one will be able to pack an incredible amount of functionality into a watch and not suffer battery problems.

Of course not. We all know Apple takes every opportunity to make their products thinner.

Except for the large amount of people that can't wear them because of their uncomfortable design. If they eventually offer different designs, it could be huge.

And musicians who need to wear custom moulded IEMs. Airpods are totally useless for me playing drums along to music on my iPhone, because they are likely to fall out whilst I'm drumming (like my old wired Apple headphones did). More importantly, they do not isolate the sound of my acoustic drums bleeding into my eardrums, like IEMs do. So now I use IEMs - except there's nowhere to plug them in now, since Apple removed the 3.5mm audio port. Apple hasn't thought of pro musicians, who actually use their iPhone daily as an aid to their practice.

Intersting mental exercise but rather pointless. Besides, Watch is a platform and AirPods are an accessory. AirPods sales will continue to grow but so will Watch sales.

plus, Airpods works with any bluetooth phone or device, while Watch is meant to paired with iPhone only.

They don't fit my ear, they constantly fall out... wired and wireless. I've seen many comments saying the same, but this is my first hand experience.

I could see myself buying new AirPods before a new Apple Watch so it isn't so outlandish to me.

I'm with you on the watch, having worn my Seiko automatic daily for the past 12+ years, not needing to replace any battery or plug it in in any way. But I am all for moving beyond wired headphones (and iPhones) as quickly as possible. In fact, I've not used wired headphones in at least 3 years. I'll put up with plugging my BT headsets and headphones once a day, in order to eliminate the hassle that wired sets have.

Wow, that's crazy, I can't see that happening, but who knows, I've been wrong before :)

its an easy jump to make.
1) A large number of people don't wear watches and have no desire to do so.
2) Price, Air Pods are within pricing of more people
3) The market is already larger for headphones/etc than tech watches

I use this with my Ultimate Ear pro's it works great! Even has a mic for phone calls.

Smartwatches as a whole are a fad that will decline in the next few years. I foresee the market being heavily focused on health and fitness, which is itself a large market. I don't believe, however, any of the convenience features you mentioned will be enough for someone to desire a smartwatch that doesn't already have the need for one. A lot of the people that purchased an Apple watch "just to buy an Apple watch" will not be return buyers.

Most of the people I've talked to that own an Apple watch (general consumers, not people of this forum) list the things the Apple watch CAN'T do when they show it off.

Many disagree with me, but I just don't see wearables having long term, widespread success. I foresee the market shrinking within ten years, not growing.

Again, whether AW is a fad or not it's way too soon to know. My personal belief, and I think that is in line with Munster's approach, is that we'll find AW is a niche product, which by definition is not a fad. It's product geared to a small market. Whether that "small" market is big enough to be worth Apple's continued development we'll see but it looks like Apple is going after the medical device segment hard. Glucose monitoring will be a game changer if they can get FDA approval to market a version as a medical device.

Agree, and said in my initial post, that Apple needs to go after the true sports watch market that Garmin, Polar, and Suunto now own. No reason AW can't do everything those watches do. Just add a barometer and it's a tri watch. It just needs decent software to display all those metrics.

As for daily use, I think Apple initially oversold the watches abilities. To this day I still only use a few apps because it's a painful and slow process. Watch OS4 solves some of the GUI problems. Hopefuly AW Series 3/4 will solve the app issue by untethering AW from the iPhone, which is it's Achilles heel. But the notifications, ApplePay, and apps like Delta make the AW a keeper for me, especially ApplePay as many other watches can display notifications now.

I'm curious what functionality those AW users you spoke with are looking for? Please elaborate.

Seriously how can I get a job doing what these analysts do? We predict the iPod Touch will come in 7 colors next year! Apple will almost definitely maybe probably not make an Apple Television like we've all been saying for the last 10 years! The new Apple Car will feature CarPlay! Ok now pay me $120,000 a year.

Looking forward to the long USB cord to sync, backup, and update the Apple Car.

It'll be interesting to watch the Apple Car threads as new iOS versions are released. Will this model still be supported? How much longer will my car be usable?

The latest update bricked my car. Apple says I'll have to ship the car back to get it fixed.

Is it safe to update to the new iOS yet???

I was driving along and suddenly grand theft auto came up on my windshield. I swerved to avoid the police car blocking the road and the prostitute on the sidewalk. And suddenly the car crashed. I opened the door and discovered I had driven through the walls of a McDonalds. Going to jail now. On the plus side, I did get some free fries.

Called Apple Support, they said they'll fix the bug in an upcoming update. I asked about a lawyer... they said not to worry, they have enough lawyers to protect them from any legal liability. Ummm... that's not what I meant.... I need a lawyer to get out of jail. They said sorry, that's not included in the Apple Car warranty.

Right, these make you look like a "t**t".

...

How are people so turned off by something that is the exact same look, minus the wire?

It's interesting. To me, your pictures illustrate precisely what the issue is. With the wires, it's instantly recognizable that the guy is wearing earphones, since we're used to that look. Without the wires, it's completely unfamiliar. So people think it "looks funny." It's a matter of what you are acclimated to.
