The problem with the Facebook phone was this was early 2010s. Android was a laggy mess. Even with all the UI optimizations, it really took til 2019 or so (think like Pixel 4 or later) before lag really went away. The experience on Android was just really bad early on and people really used Android because they were cheaper alternatives to iPhones. A Facebook phone, if made well could've done decently, but it was a product that got abandoned fast. The thing is, nobody wants a Facebook phone. And I take it nobody wants a Facebook car either.
Though I think this sets kind of a scary precedent. Once other auto manufacturers see this they may decide to pull CarPlay support as well. The banks are also already getting sick of Apple Pay, and may decide to pull out of that too. And one by one the domino falls,....I don't like where this is headed.
On top of that it was a budget phone, not a flagship like the HTC One, and it was clearly relegated to being a secondary product. AT&T exclusive also doesn't help when you had 5 years of AT&T exclusive iPhone users.
