What! …. No carplay no sale.
General Motors (GM) will phase out Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its vehicles starting this year, shifting to a built-in infotainment system co-developed with Google (via Reuters).

GM owns Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC in the United States. It will stop offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto starting with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer, which goes on sale this summer. The company plans to continue offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its combustion models, which are expected to be phased out by 2035 in favor of electric vehicles. Owners of existing GM cars that currently have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be able to continue using the systems.
GM has worked on infotainment software with Google since 2019 that tightly integrates with other vehicle systems such as navigation and GM's Super Cruise driver assistant. Future GM infotainment systems will offer applications such as Spotify and Audible, and iPhone users will still be able to listen to music and make phone calls using Bluetooth. EV buyers will also get access to Google Maps and Google Assistant at no extra cost for a period of eight years.
The move is expected to help the automaker gather more data about how consumers drive and accelerate a strategy to incentivize vehicle-related digital subscription services. Notably, GM was not included in Apple's list of automakers that plan to offer the next-generation CarPlay experience.

That's true, but from my personal experience once you introduce it to them it becomes an everyday feature. CarPlay and Android Auto are just so much better than the vast majority of infotainment systems.I know so many people who have Iphones and cars with Carplay and don't even know it exists or how to use it. I think most people on this site overvalue the use of Carplay and Android Auto for the general populace.
The big issue: here in North America, iPhones have a massive marketshare. GM cutting them off by stopping the use of Apple CarPlay will tremendously hurt car sales, especially among more well-educated car owners.Or literally almost any other manufacturer over GM. I think they grossly underestimate how many people consider CarPlay an absolute. Not that I ever wanted or considered any GM vehicle.

I can't be bothered looking up the details but they've moved to a 3rd party android system haven't they?It also eliminates Android Auto. No projection systems at all. That’s cutting off 100% of the mobile phone market share added to iPhones.

I suspect Android Auto functionality will be replicated - perhaps user data synchronised. I can't think of a good reason GM would want to do this other than a push from their system developer.
And the Honda Prologue, ehem... 🤣If I ever needed more reason to not buy GM and stick with Honda.... I have it now.
A GM or GE refrigerator?
Honestly all I use CarPlay for is Google Maps and SRead text messages out loud. Tell Siri to make phone calls. Apple Maps.
OK Boomer. My 2017 Cadillac XT5 came with CarPlay and Android Auto. I've never felt a need to use either.
My 2022 CR-V has a Google based Infotainment system that can run either Android Auto or CarPlay on top of it.I hadn't heard Honda was doing this. Just looked - the 2023 Accord does come with the Google built-in crap, but it does include CarPlay across all trims. No mention of Android Auto, though.
The whole Google built-in concept is my bigger concern. Too much control over the vehicle and control systems to a company not known for sticking with the applications and well known for aggressive data collection.
It is? I’ve NEVER used it. LolCarPlay and android auto is a must have for buyers, they're shooting themselves in the foot here.
