For those of you, perhaps the quoted, that aren't in weird world of advertising... If the most they paid for this spot was 90k (on talent for 3, assuming that it would normally be 60k for the two), then this is waaaaaaayy low. Production costs for these spots are also really low. Minimal set. Hair, wardrobe, make up, minimal. Most of the money being spent is going to the media buy.

I've made many single :30 commercials that cost (for just one commercial) around 400k - 700k (production only, not including media buy). All comparable sized brands. This campaign is a very smart use of money. Especially as the marketshare continues to rise.

I'm guessing that by this point though (time passing, them being more recognizable), the talent can demand a higher rate (seinfeld style).

Wow, that's insane I never would have thought it would cost that much.

These commercials seem to be doing the trick, though, as Mac sales are constantly increasing and people are certainly more aware of Mac as an alternative. These commercials are not for the tech-savvy crowd, more the everyday Joe. If these commercials start blinding them with tech-speak, no one would pay attention. I do agree that they should focus on what Macs can do, but they have already been addressed in previous commercials.

Well, let me tell you something... ;)

Around here, these ads don't even compete with the Macbook Air one... At least 10 non-mac people asked me if I saw the ad about the MBA and if I was aware of the product... For me, this ad is a good ad.

None of these peoples ever talked to me about the Mac vs. PC series... They probably saw it, maybe liked it but never thought about mentioned it.

I'd hit it.

They need a new ad campaign. This one's already bit the dust and is now efficiently eat the ground.

On that note I would totally do Judy Greer (the yoga chick).

I hate these 'Get a Mac' ads, they were a big part of the reason I held off from getting a Mac for a long time. I just found the ads to be obnoxious and extremely irratating. The sad thing is a lot of Mac users act like the 'Mac' in the commerical, condescending and smug.

That's really harsh. We are only human beings and it's just plain rude to categorize people as a whole for the actions of a few. You have no idea how many Mac users are out there and you have only met a small community of them, not everyone is like that.

Now on a side note, you would probably act like the way you say Mac users act if you had Windows users throwing the market share crap in your face everyday as many Windows users so "smugly" do to a very small community of Mac users.
When a PC user throws the market share in a Mac users face it's the person trying to show superiority and don't tell me I'm wrong because it's true.

Macs have a small market share (thank goodness) so Apple needs to be aggressive on the ads.

Some retired folks I know had a virus on their PC just yesterday and they said they were tired of dealing with Windows and they wanted to throw away the computer. These are the people the Mac ads are targeted to, not the geeks on MR that see everything as bad and never look at the good.

Judy Greer's done some sex scenes in movies. I'm pleasuring myself to them right now.

Ah, the musings of charming newbies.

Both ads are new from Apple and have been designed to increase market share. Apple has increased market share over the past several years at a surprising rate. No one cares what I or anyone else "thinks" about the ads, only that the ads perform their job in creating market share.

'nuff said.:)

Hah! She was one of the valley girls in the MST3K- worthy camp classic Joysticks from '83! Looking for a pic of her in that movie came up empty, but there are lots of nudie pics of her about.

I do like these ads, but I agree that they are getting a bit long in the tooth. It's time for a new campaign, methinks...

Every time one of these stupid ads comes on, I change the channel. They got so old, so fast. The campaign is a one-trick-pony.

Theres no way this campaign will get me to think about buying a Mac.

And the thing is, they are not using the ads for current Mac Owners, but to those in the PC world who are sick of Vista and everything that Microsoft is.

Thank you. Finally a Mac user who realizes that these ads aren't for Mac users!

We don't need to be told to use a Mac....we already do.

There is a good reason why Apple tends to aim these ad's squarely at Microsoft - and that's because the people these commercials are aimed at are PC users. PC users in the market for a new computer will by default go for a new Windows machine - these ad's do a great job at raising awareness of choice in the market, and the very real pitfalls of Vista against a superior 'home user' experience with Mac.

The commercials are not aimed at me or you - who are long time / recent Apple Mac users. So it's only lame because it's not a commercial aimed at you. And why would Apple aim advertising spend at you? We are the converted - and Apple is a brand that generates huge loyalty.

Those are all really good points. And as a recent convert, I have to say that the ads did play some part in my decision to switch--or at least to give Apple a serious look. Now they are pure entertainment.

I saw one today that was like basketball bet. It was who is the all time leading scorer in the NBA and in the ad they went to the wikipedia page of Kareem Abdul Jabar.

Say goodbye to these (PCs) Michael, 'cause it's the last time.

Kitty rocks :)

'We' who are on an Apple website - are not the ones Apple are trying to communicate to with these ads. Look at ad's for the Macbook Air - they are pure hardware - they appeal to everyone in the market for a device. The 'PC & Mac' ad's are for Windows users - so before everyone jumps up to become a bedroom creative - I would say look behind the real market intentions of the adverts.

Good point but we ARE seeing these ads and eventually we will influence other people trying a Mac. And hey, every so often we are going to need new macs as well. And truthfully the (consumer) Mac lineup is now simply hilarious. HD2600 graphics still? If Apple is to continue these ads (which are fine--really) they eventually are going to have to put their money where their mouth is. Mac OS X is purty, but on obsolete hardware it's just a thin layer of veneer.

If they eventually upgrade, say, the mini, I fear it will now use 2006-era graphics instead of 2005. That's just embarassing.

You must have not ever seen the latest from Dell's AIO or Gateway's ONE. The Dell XPS ONE only offers the HD2400 and Gateway's entry level for $1299 (which cost more than the iMac) comes with the X3100 shared GPU and their top model ships with the HD2600 which happens to be a 19" with the C2D 2.0Ghz.

The iMac is quite up to date on the GPU for this type of machine and you can't count the Mac Pro because it has a swappable GPU.

Just another vote in the 'sell Apple by selling Apple - not solely by bashing Vista' camp.

Love these ads when they have a clear selling point as to why the Mac experience is better. Cringe when they do nothing but bash Vista. Justin Long says hardly anything in Yoga.

Not nice and increasingly ineffective in my book.

Theres no way this campaign will get me to think about buying a Mac.

There has NEVER been an ad campaign that was successful with 100% of the viewers. So you don't like it. Big deal. You are not everybody.
