I wonder why they decided to air the edited version of "Yoga." In the rough cut, Judy Greer ends the ad by looking at PC and Mac and saying "It's the last time you'll see these!" before lifting up her top.

now that's what should have aired!! oh, seriously, i miss arrested development. i think that's one of the reasons i just like this ad more than others.

Because gkarris's friends just got a machine with Vista.... and it works flawlessly.

My wife's Vista laptop works flawlessly as well. I tried Vista in the RC stage... didn't work well on my machine so I stuck with XP, which is very stable. I don't know if you're living in a fantasy world or just in denial, but Windows is a decent (but not great) operating system.

It's obviously no OS X, otherwise we would not be here. Now if there was only an xMac, I would never have to use Windows again.

Apple? Are you listening?

Apple are definitely slipping as far as I'm concerned. Their Mac vs PC campaign is tired, they shouldn't even be comparing themselves with Windows, they should be graceful and stylish as they have been in the past. I've been an avid Mac admirer for years and I'm slowly being turned off. Not that I would stop using their products, but I will stop being so pro Mac when discussing computers or software.

Apple are trying too hard.

Tired

These ads are just redundant and played out. I liked the switch ads because it wasn't just outright windows bashing; the actors actually described problems that were common among most people using PC's. And the 1984 ad was genius. This is just laziness on the agency's part.

I think people in general agree that the ads work. However, forcing someone to do something at gun point works also, but it doesn't mean its the best way to accomplish the task.

All I am saying is, and a lot of other people have said it, its embarrassing. I can't defend apple to people for this kind of attitude. Its this whole campaign that is really going to bring apple's flaws to the spotlight.

No one is forcing anyone to do anything.

Emabarrassing to who? you? Big deal, you aren't the target audience. As a PC user I can tell you I'm certainly looking into a mac for my next computer. I'd be a liar if I said these commercials had 0 influence.

Let's just get one thing straight, these Mac commercials aren't meant for Mac users. It's understandable and normal that mac users wont find these commercials appealing.

(Rant about Apple and their Ad's)

I'm sick of these ads. I'm sick of Apple these days...slow to update their machines such as the Mac Mini and the iMac, stupid cycles where they have to update it sparingly.

Mac Mini is an overpriced-over glorified-under powered headless mini desktop.

iMac is just outdated, they gotta start getting some Quads into the iMac.

I just specced out an HP desktop and for $999, I get a Quad 6600 2.4 WITH 3 gigs of ram standard, and a choice for the 8800 video card (guys this is a consumer desktop Uncle Joe could get)

Umm, iMac costs $1200 and I get a Dual Core...

I'm perfectly fine with my Mac Pro, but thats of the few products I've been happy with.

I could never convince a consumer to switch to a Mac with a tight budget. Any PC below $1k is going to destroy anything and everything Apple throws out there.

My friend ditched a white MacBook and got an HP laptop with Vista. You have to spend $2000 at Apple to get a 15 inch screen, I guess it's a professional thing. It's either this little crappy MacBook with a 13 inch Screen or go all out and get a MacBook Pro with a 15 incher for twice the price.

I know Apple loves simplicity, but their prices suck along with their hardware offering.

Now I cool off and realize Apple is going to go their own merry way.

God if only OS X ran on Pc's..

I find it really funny that people have nothing better to do than comment on a commercial (and now it's my turn).

This ad campaign may be one of Apple's most successful campaigns ever and may rank as one of the best of all time. Mac's are flying off of the shelves and OS X is a big part of the reason.

Vista on the other hand has been a complete fiasco. With majority of Microsoft's corporate accounting stating that they will not be upgrading to the OS until they upgrade to new machines and some are even stating that they're going to skip Vista altogether. This is not good. I've heard on more than one occasion of people buying a new PC with Vista and having to downgrade to XP, because Vista was so unstable.

Meanwhile OS X 10.5 runs well on iMac G4s, without any memory upgrades.

These ads could be a lot worst, Apple could have either the Mac or PC Guy read letters and quotes from these major corporations stating that they're not going to run Vista. Or how Dell and Sony have requested that Microsoft continues to support XP.

My friend for $50 less than a Mini got a machine twice the power and twice more features (DVD burner, discreet 8000 series nVidia graphics card). (Yes, this has been discussed to death already).
...
Mac: I'm the newly updated MacBook!
PC: I'm the new HP Special Edition PC Notebook!
Mac: I run OS X and everything is integrated.
PC: I run Vista and I'm powerful enough to do so!
Mac: PC, is that you in there?
PC: No, he's been replaced, we're newly designed, less costly, and can run Vista! (starts dancing and singing).
Mac: no way...PC, PC, you in there???

If you're jonesing for a windows machine, go for it. The problem with the ads isn't that MacOS isn't better... most of us (perhaps not you) would agree that it is. The problem is that the attacks on Vista are getting old, seem very negative, and at least in the case of the yoga ad, are more libelous than accurate.

btw: I just got round to watching the Breakthrough ad. I think that one is pretty awesome. It's a new spin on the earlier theme of why PC's don't work as well.

lol, I wonder if I was the first to PM arn about it....probably not haha

soooooo, doesn't that make the statement in Apple's ad, "Vista still doesn't work" false?/QUOTE]

They can say Vista still doesn't work because, well, it still doesn't work... I've got a Vista desktop at home that I bought about 7 months ago. It took me a while to clean it up to where it wasn't clunking around but beyond that it was fine. Until I started installing the Windows mandatory updates that is. My audio card has been dead for months now and short of buying a new card and/or finding someway to roll back the Vista updates I've got no sound and it's quite annoying. (Since I don't always use the sound I'm not sure which update did it but they were all Vista required updates).

So, in short, they can say it still doesn't work because it still doesn't work...

Well, there you have it boys. All the negative reviews, public outcry, even Bill Gates own admission the OS failed.... are all bunk.

Why?

Because gkarris's friends just got a machine with Vista.... and it works flawlessly.

You sound like an idiot. Just because someone doesn't agree that Leopard is the best thing since the wheel doesn't mean you have to jump all over them.

Leopard by far has more core issues then Vista. I run both, I have been a systems programer for IBM for over 20+ years and have used both OS platforms for at least 15 years.

If Leopard was that perfect there wouldn't be a 10.5.3 seed currently out there to address 20 more fixes. That would bring the total to 100 already. Not very good seeing the OS had already shipped six months late.

Also other then speed issues, Vista works fairly well. Both have issues.

Side note. I do not live in my mothers basement.

The "Vista Sucks" campaign is getting a bit tiresome. Why not concentrate on how great OSX is instead? I think even my grandmother, is aware that Vista has not lived up to it's potential by now.

Au contraire, mon ami.
Its called a meme and its taking its toll.
Love it.
Hope (and assume) Long and Hodgman are making beaucoup bucks.

Thanks for backing me up.... :)

Public outcry came from the people trying to load Vista on their Pentium 1.8GHz machines with 512 Megs RAM and Intel Integrated Graphics 950 (you know, the one APPLE STILL USES IN THEIR LINEUP).

(runs for cover...)

Understanding the target.

With these adds you need to rember what the target audence is and what it isn't.

It is not targetd at Mac Owner or Windows Lovers.
Mac Owners get fustrated because the add doesn't show off the OS in its glory.

Windows Lovers get fustrated because it is bashing their favorate OS...
But Mac Owners already baught and most like their Macs.

Windows Lovers will not buy Macs no matter what.

The Adds are target at people who are not stuck on using Windows and felt they have been bitten by windows quite a few time. But need some reinsurances about going with a Mac, because it seems like a bigger deal then it actually is. The last thing they want is getting a New System a New OS pay a cost and have the same problems that they would with Windows except there are more games available for Windows. These adds are ment to show there are less hassles with Macs then with Windows. The adds while exadrate the problem are actualy problems with PC. When using Vista I normally 2 or 3 times a session have to choose "Cancel" or "Allow" and I normally click sigh and click and say"Allow"

This whole 'OS X "just works"' thing is bollocks really, if Mac had the 95+% userbase that Microsoft has believe me there would be just as many issues going public as there are with MS.

Ah, the old 'Windows only sucks because its so successful' line.
Talk about damning with faint praise.

Bottom line... I don't know ANYONE who enjoys Windows. No one.
I know lots that LOVE their macs.

That doesn't jive with the high percentages of dissatisfaction (but low total numbers) that you pretend would exist with a higher market share.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, wasn't a MacBook Air cracked last week? Wasn't it running OS X? Aren't dozens of people complaining about AirPort not connecting or loosing their photo libraries or being frustrated by Apple blocking 3rd party apps on their iPhone? Didn't MBP experience keyboard problems or iMac display freezes?

Apple is not ALL good . Some of it is also bad. Try to criticize, even a little, Apple products on their forum and your posts will be deleted or edited (I know, it happened to me).

I love Apple and OS X, that's why I switched from XP months ago. But blind fanboys often forget that every OS or hardware have their flaws. Leopard was bashed in these very forums because it was unstable when it came out and somehow it still is not 'finished': network problems and TM restrictions are only some examples .

There are some good sides to Windows like being able to find 100 times more software than on Mac. Most of the time, it works properly, contrary to what drugged up Apple fanatics would have you believe. The ads are funny but bashing MS is the only thing that Apple could do: the OS has been hacked into (don't get into the details, the facts are there), the iApps are half backed, a lot of web sites (still) do not support Safari (at least where I live), you now have to pay for your remote... The list is long!

I enjoy my 2 Macs very much, in fact I won't go back to Windows in the foreseeable future. But, darn, I've also seen a dark side to Apple that, if I'd known about it before I switched, would have made me think twice .

I'm now ready to be trashed by Apple fanboys on steroids and other illegal substances :).

put your sound card in your mac and see if it works...:p

lies in apple's ads can only go so far before it cracks and generates backlash. Apple obviously knows no limit.
Bottom line... I don't know ANYONE who enjoys Windows. No one.
I know lots that LOVE their macs.
Looks like your circle is quite small.... as far as computers goes....
