I GOT IT TO WORK!
As you can see the link was sent back when that was enabled. But then i disabled it and got the ATT glob. But DO NOT tell the, that you got the glob, just say you didnt get a link or a globe :)

so were you conveying the sense that you didnt want MMS at all? or were you trying to convince them you hate the link txt and u want it switched?

I told them that i hated the link. I said can you please disable the link notification. But i made it clear that i didn't want them to disable MMS all together so that i can use it in "late summer", but that i just didnt want that link sent to me. And that i didnt care that i wouldnt get the picture at all.

I tried and the guy I got said he couldn't disable it, he said he could turn off texts all together but he couldn't disable the link... I may have to try until I get a CSR that will.

Thats your problem. In my post i said that the CSR cant do anything with your account. You have to say can you transfer me to Tech Support.

HOWEVER! Now that i think about it i dont even think i had that enabled on my phone to begin with. I would first tell them to send you a test MMS (and they will) if you see that you get a link, then you do the steps above. But if you get the image in a message bubble directly then you say never mind lol.:p

Yeah the CSR rep transferred me to Tech Support, the tech support guy said he couldn't disable BUT he could turn it Texts off all together, I said I don't want them turned off, just the link disabled, he said that means someones trying to send you a picture he can't disable it..

I meant I'll have to call back and try with another tech support rep..

Do you currently get the link? Because when i first tried this the CSR didnt change anything he just sent me the MMS test and i got them like i should. The problem i had was that i got them the next morning and the damage was already done from when i called agin and said i want able to even get a link, so she enabled it agin.

Keep trying and tell them that the link thing gets on your nerves and that you do not want that as a notification. Say that if you will no longer know if someone is sending you a picture then so be it.

Yeah, I currently get the link. I just spoke with another tech support guy and he said the same thing, "I can't do anything about it, but by the end of summer it will go away on it's own"...

Idk if this works, but tell them to remove the "Message Waiting Indicator" That is what was said was the problem in this thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/725822/

And dont forget to complain about how you dont like the link sent and that you dont care if you dont get any notification at all...

the guy I'm speaking with now is telling me the new iPhone 3GS shouldn't even be receiving linked MMS. He's saying the iPhone 3GS doesn't support any MMS at this time... And that there's a glitch in the system because I'm receiving link'd MMS when I shouldn't be..

Oh i didnt know you had a 3GS....i guess you have to get connected with the right reps. This sucks! I wish everyone had the same luck as i did...

What settings to get the visual voicemail to work again?

Kenal0

Disregard- got it.

How did you get it working in the first place?

Man, I had my sim in old phone until my 3GS arrived. As soon as I got it, I activated, updated ipcc and had a test sent. I got the pic. I sent him one...he got it. I got home, did the same to my wifes phone and she gets the red ! on all pics. Now I get that. I removed sim back to old phone, made sure att site shows other than iphone, did the medianet text..send text messages and then put sim back in my iPhone. Still nothing...Red ! when I send and I receive nothing.

Ok go to setting, general, network, cellular data network and where it says visual voicemail APN: put in acds.voicemail and leave username and password blank

My wifes phone does not have a visual VM section in cell data network.

3g s

I had this working perfectly on my 3g. I used the sim swap metohd to get my plan on a regular messaging plan. Now that I upgraded to the 3GS phone I cant get it to work. Not only that but also the Tethering option dissapears from my network settings. Has anyone been successful on getting MMS to work on the 3gs? I use Windows BTW.

When i talked to ATT today they said they got like a system update because of the new 3GS that came out. SO that might have something to do with it so im not sure.

I did the same thing... Called AT&T and asked will I can't view MMS? She said "power your phone down and then back on". "I going to send you a MMS message." "Let me know when you have it" Done! I guess AT&T can't stop you from receiving MMS. So they have to enable it. By default a iPhones are set up for links to be displayed when you receive a MMS. Work it out people!

Cheers!

I just got my MMS working and this is how thanks to users in this thread.
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/723378/

Goto this link and enable tethering.
http://www.9to5mac.com/iPhone-3G-tethering?page=

Use this settings (Thanks andrewseely) in settings:general:network:cellular data network

APN: wap.cingular
Username: wap@cingulargprs.com
Password: CINGULAR1
MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Max Message Size: [leave blank]
MMS UA Prof URL: [leave blank]

Then lastly, call ATT to have them change there MMS settings. I specifically said "Can you change my mms settings so my iPhone will receive MMS just like any other phone instead of the link method".

I am now able to send and receive MMS.

Hope this works for you guys instead. Here's a screenshot of the convo between the rep. Notice the AT&T network on the top left.

Didnt work for me.
the rep said sorry but no ms 'till late summer.
then she put me on hold to make a record of my call and request.

Does anyone know if we could say we have a different phone then the one we have and it works? Because they're not letting me do it.

I suppose you could try, but then you run the risk of them changing your iPhone data plan which would render it pretty much useless.... It's like dealing with a double edged sword.. As much as it sucks, I'm just sucking it up until AT&T gets their act together.. I tried about 5 different tech reps last night all to no avail..

wifi not working now

I loaded the .ipcc file and have tethering and MMS working now. But now my WiFi does not work.

Any ideas? thanks.

(long time lurker but now I need help! :))
