IF (and that's a big if), the supply is extremely low as predicted by "sources", would anyone who ends up lucky enough to snag one before the holiday season try to sell it for a small profit?

I am not blown away by the X, but am impressed. I was thinking if can sell it to make a few hundred (or double my money which would be nice). Also, I am toying with the idea of getting an s8+ because I am bored with iOS and am looking for something new. However, if the iPhone X is as nice in person as the videos make it to be, then maybe I will just keep it.

Don't bother commenting to berate me on the idea on how its "morally wrong". I could care less and if I can profit well enough from this then you bet your ass I will sell it.

If you fully pay for the device and you own it, then you can do so what you want with it. Some purchase an iPhone strictly just to make a significant profit knowingly their will be a demand for the product. But in your case, if you actually like the product and have uses for it, then great. But what others don't support, is for those who will purchase the iPhone With the intention of not keeping it or to sell it for the purposes of generated revenue. It just takes away from those who truly want the iPhone for the sake of owning it, especially given the constraint.

Scalpers know what they are doing and shaming won't stop them. It's a chance to make a few bucks for very little effort. At best they are likely to get only one phone to sell. Hardly worth compromising your integrity for.

It doesn't matter whether we're talking about the latest piece of electronics, shares of stock purchased at Initial Public Offering, concert tickets, or a subscription for collectible figurines. It's a gamble, and timing is everything. Activity by speculators often push prices up temporarily, and prices may soon crash when the intensity of the public's interest is better understood.

So go ahead, if you want to be part of the crowd that pushes prices up, do it. Just hope that you don't get too greedy, wait for prices to go even higher, and then discover, by the time you've sold, that you can't get the hoped-for price any more.

Hint: Amateurs often get burned.

Considering the 14 day return window...there's very little risk.

Like it or not, capitalism is the system that we all live under and I find those of you are getting up on your high horse about this to be hypocrites. If you are truly against the practice of buying something and then reselling it for a profit, then why aren't you equally outraged at any retail store you shop at in person or online?

You all just want your new toy and are frustrated at the prospect that you might not get it (right away) because someone would be buying to resell. If this was food, water, shelter or some other necessity of life than I would understand and join in your outrage, but what we are discussing here is your bruised materialism.

If you are truly against the practice of buying something and then reselling it for a profit.

Buying something whose supply will remain extremely scarce till the first half of 2018. There's a difference. It causes a lot of frustration to people who genuinely want an iPhone X, because now they have to wait even longer.

I hope Apple enforces a 1 unit per person limit, instead of the 2, and I hope all people who genuinely want an iPhone X get theirs and scalpers get no units.

Wishful thinking...

Max of 2 and there's no way of knowing if fans or scalpers are buying.

There's profit to be made and it's easy to do.

By not imposing some sort of return fee and a 14 return window to sell your phones, Apple has made it easy for scalpers to make money.

I guess it didn't occur it the people in this thread that those who are willing to buy an iPhone X for >$2000 are the ones whose wallets won't have a dent in it from the purchase. You are not the target audience for the scalpers' market. It's ridiculous how entitled some of you are for claiming scalpers should leave the iPhones for people who actually need them. Did you stop to think who it is that's buying the phone? Newsflash: it's probably someone who needs it. Get off your high horse and do what the scalpers are doing if you want to secure your phone on launch day. Otherwise, just wait like the majority of people who won't be getting their iPhone X at launch.

Most people will be getting it on instalment plans. Others will be using their savings to pay. The rest are a small percentage of people who are very rich and can afford to pay any amount.

Scalpers buy the phone not because they need it, they buy it to sell it for an outrageously high price in order to satisfy their greed. Others want one because they genuinely want one, not to make profit to anything.

Hey...I'll price mine at $500 over list. It will be sure to move fast! Ka-ching!

And you can thank Apple and those dumb***es who said "Good, don't buy any so there will be more for me" for that.

LOL 😀

There will most likely be a limit that Apple will enforce. As for not getting an expensive luxury item until 2018--Boo Hoo. Be up in the middle of the night to order when Apple opens it and you may not have to wait.

lol at the people being angry. Apple does the same thing and prices things high to create a good supply and demand. Nothing wrong with buying extra iPhone X's and making a decent profit. The Jet Black Plus was selling for 1400-1500 when it first came out and I am sure you make a very good profit on the X when it comes out.

Apple is not selling these to you for the price it costs them so by your logic they are a POS. Why are you buying a phone from a POS like Apple?

That’s a little different there buddy. You are buying a product that someone legitimately wants and selling it to make money yourself. You are taking a product from someone else just to price gouge the hell out of it. It’s just wrong. Let the people who want the phone to use it buy it instead of taking up supply so you can reach a personal gain.

I learned a long time ago, that if you don’t do it then someone else will.
At the end of the day we have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed.
Or would you prefer I sell illegal drugs to your kids??

People like OP disgusts me.
LOL! Is it really that serious?

As for me I will be laser focused on getting one for myself for launch day, can’t be bothered with trying to profit

I have two guaranteed from my Verizon store. I’ll preorder 2 as well.

Your Verizon store probably doesn’t even have 2 guaranteed lol gtfoh 😀

Bad idea, scalpers will be destroyed. If you're planning on scalping then you're basically betting against Tim Cook's supply chain being able to deliver.. bad idea, nobody bets against Tim Cook and wins. There's a reason he was called a supply chain genius, even Steve Jobs could not best him in that area.

Once again, if you try to scalp this phone, you will only cause yourself time + money + grief. Don't do it, Tim Cook will bury you.

Point is. If people are willing to pay x2 over the retail price, then there will always be people who will sell it to them at x2 price.

If you want your 15sec of fame just to be the first person to own a product X, then it’s your fault for willing to pay inflated price. And when your 15sec of fame is over, I’m not paying your physiatrist bill just because you can’t control your spending.
No one put a gun to your head and forced you to pay $3k for a phone. That’s it’s all your fault.

Just like a bartender, who doesn’t come to your home or office and forces drinks down your throat. You have free will and what you do with it is your perogative.

P.s.
Being a great salesman at anything, is a skill that very few people have.

You better off channeling your anger or energy towards a tobacco company. But you won’t do that. You’ll just hide behind keyboard on a white horse on top of white column. Bitching about people trying to make a living. Good job.../s

Planning on ordering 4 or 6 or so JUST to sell.

Extra cash in my pocket is always a good thing. 🙂

All you hypocrites complaining -- how exactly do you think your job affords to pay you a salary? They buy goods/services and sell them for a profit. Just because *YOU* don't do that, and are insulated from the commerce side of your job, doesn't mean that it doesn't have to happen so that you get paid. This isn't any different than that.

p.s. I do have a bone to pick with the OP.. I'm not going to sell them for a small profit. I'm planning on making a killing with them!

What are you yakking on about?

Scalpers can easily buy 2 on pre-order, charge them to their CC, CC gets charged close to when they ship, and they have 14 day return window.

Worst case is they return the phones to the nearest Apple Store and get 100% of their money back.

Neither Cook nor you are going to bury anyone.

LOL... 😀
