Let's compare after polishing your stainless steel a hundred times. :)

I've been polishing steel for decades and I've never had an issue whatsoever.

Plus, why would I polish a watch a hundred times?

You guys need to calm the OCD down a bit.

Both sides are patting themselves on the back when there are clearly pros and cons to both.

Thanks, but I don't have any scratches to polish at all.

Well I would hope not, after 2-3 days. And chances are you may not get any if you are careful. But the fact remains that the sapphire is way more scratch resistant than the normal glass. I think it remains to be seen whether this will end up being an issue, but there's a reason that the higher-end watches don't use "ion-x glass."

lol I take you don't normally wear watches.

Haven't worn a watch in 20 years so my brain may be foggy but even when I was looking at my old watches not too long ago, they weren't scratched up. I've worn fitbits and other similar devices on and off for the past few years though.

Yeah, as someone who hasn't worth a watch in more than a decade and who has never worn a watch worth more than $50, I don't think I fully appreciated how easy it can be to scratch one even in your daily life. Just yesterday I nearly scraped the face of the watch on some tiles in the bathroom.

I'm glad you got the Sport, too. It's a really great option and good value. I personally liked the lightness of the aluminum case and felt it was more comfortable with the Sport band than the heavier stainless steel watch I ended up purchasing.

There are many fantastic reasons to be thrilled with the selection of the Sport model. But the things you're saying about the stainless steel watch are absurd. There is no coating. It's solid, it's more likely to become technologically obsolete before anyone even has to begin to worry about their watch looking...er...over buffed.

Really, we can each enjoy our selections without needlessly putting down the selection of others. Particularly if we have to pull "facts" out of our as...er out of air to do so.

just because we paid premium and you didn't, doesn't mean you need to hate on us. just saying.

The infighting between the Sport owners and Stainless owners shows how quickly some Apple enthusiasts reveal their unhappy juvenile lives.

Instead of celebrating how lucky they are to have this fine Watch Apple has worked so long and hard to create, they fight like little kids over a piece of candy.

For outsiders that may be viewing this thread while they consider buying a watch of their own, they're getting a snapshot that's not too welcoming.

Glad I Got The Sport!

With all the talk of the stainless steel getting scratched easily and the sapphire screen being inferior to clarity than the ION-X glass:

I am glad I got the Sport!

Yes, you can just buff the scratches on the stainless steel but by doing this a lot, you can actually buff away the coating and will eventually see the actual steel under there if you're not careful. The aluminum on my Sport got in contact with steel a couple of times, but it didn't get affected a bit...no mark of any sort was left. My ION-X glass is still pristine with no visible nor difficult to see/'only seen when angled' scratches. Of course, I am being careful but not overly paranoid.

I think us 'Sports' owners got our money's worth it. And no, I'm not justifying my choice, I just don't want to do extra effort to keep my watch look brand new...just blow on it and slightly wipe it before going to bed.

Oh donster. Haven't you figured it out yet? Your screen scratches, scratches easily and scratches fast. No one gives a monkeys about the outer frame getting scratched as long as the a display screen doesn't scratch. The Apple Watches screen won't scratch, where as the sports do and will in a matter of time.

You say yours is superior, but your basing it on glare, I mean seriously your choosing glare over a solid, scratch proof display? Well your priorities are your own, me I am just happy to have peace of mind. Have fun carrying your wrist about like it's made of glass, because one scratch on your display you'll be back here asking for help and wishing you didn't start this thread. That extra bit of money would of gone a long way.

You'll figure it out soon enough.

Actually, this is quite calm. You should've seen the iPhone 6/6 plus discussions. Lots of nasty owners on both sides. I don't understand it at all. But I think there are benefits to the sport and I think there are certain things certain people would care about with the stainless steel. But the differences aren't large. The price difference isn't even that large.

I am glad I got it as well. Especially as a first gen product, I wouldn't want to spend $600 to get a SS model, maybe next gen. I actually really like the aluminum look over the SS as well. My dream combo would be a Space Gray Aluminum with Saphire Display cover and both a Black/White Sport band. That would be my perfect watch.

I hear ya. :)
