But you were crying like a child when you didn't get you order on Friday

Hey, I think this SS-vs.-Sport pissing match is utterly ridiculous, but you can kindly mark me down for "crying like a child" right now that my preorder (April 10 12:05:47 a.m. PDT ) is still "Processing."

With all the talk of the stainless steel getting scratched easily and the sapphire screen being inferior to clarity than the ION-X glass:

http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/27/apple-watch-display-comparison/

I am glad I got the Sport!

Yes, you can just buff the scratches on the stainless steel but by doing this a lot, you can actually buff away the coating and will eventually see the actual steel under there if you're not careful. The aluminum on my Sport got in contact with steel a couple of times, but it didn't get affected a bit...no mark of any sort was left. My ION-X glass is still pristine with no visible nor difficult to see/'only seen when angled' scratches. Of course, I am being careful but not overly paranoid.

I think us 'Sports' owners got our money's worth it. And no, I'm not justifying my choice, I just don't want to do extra effort to keep my watch look brand new...just blow on it and slightly wipe it before going to bed.

No offense but if Aluminum was the better option Luxury watches would not be made from Stainless steel and gold and contain Sapphire Glass.

The infighting between the Sport owners and Stainless owners shows how quickly some Apple enthusiasts reveal their unhappy juvenile lives.

Instead of celebrating how lucky they are to have this fine Watch Apple has worked so long and hard to create, they fight like little kids over a piece of candy.

For outsiders that may be viewing this thread while they consider buying a watch of their own, they're getting a snapshot that's not too welcoming.

True but the same type of arguments occur on any forum. Some people enjoy arguing and debating for the sake of it so good for them.

only settle for the best.. this case, i wanted to invest the 17k instead so i settled for second best LOL

So you are settling...

Just because you don't comprehend why someone would get the sport doesn't make it a bad choice. There are lots of good reasons to get the sport. I don't see the stainless steel as being better than the sport, it just has trade offs. You want a lighter watch and a somewhat throw away watch? I'd recommend the sport. If you don't mind selling to buy the next gen and don't mind the extra weight, then the stainless steel may be the best option. Also, some people prefer shiny while some people prefer matte.

There was an era when aluminum was more precious than gold. http://bigthink.com/in-their-own-words/how-technology-will-change-our-entire-concept-of-value

It's a marvelous material. Strong, lightweight, accepts a rainbow of colors (and keep in mind there are only two at present... think iPod Nano for how that might go). And the Type 3 anodize Apple uses is very tough.

But as tough as the anodize is, as others have pointed out there is no ready repair should you dent or scratch it. So you note how one can purchase 1.5 Sports for the price of one Stainless Steel Watch and accept a bit less toughness (and also enjoy a bit less reflective glare, which is good), or you can pay more for a polishable watch with a tougher screen.

Having said all that, I really really wish there were a Titanium option. Lightweight and very tough, and semi space-grey in its natural finish.

or Tungsten.

This is just going to be nothing but a pissing contest with people trying to justify their purchases.

Exactly.
Fact is (and I got the sport) the sapphire screen of the SS is superior in every way. Sapphire just cannot scratch easily. However the ion x glass of the aluminium is tough, tougher than the iPhone 6 glass. I've already knocked my sports against door knobs etc and its not scratched.
Sapphire is better though but let's not kid ourselves, the £200 mark up is ridiculous.

Totally unrelated but I remember stories of how native americans loves the copper bottoms of ships of the Spaniards so much so that they traded gold, which was plentiful, for the copper bottoms. The Spaniards were tearing their ships apart so that they could trade for gold of the natives. Of course that all was before they figured enslaving the natives was easier but I digress.

I'm surprised nobody has commented on the actual article (which has nothing to do with scratches). Does anybody else find the light refraction problem with sapphire a bit disappointing? It seems to dash my hopes of a sapphire iPhone display.

Well its because there is no point putting a anti glare coating on it. It would just scratch. The sport will scratch anyways so they figured why not add the anti glare improvement.

I guess there is a form of AR Sapphire that could be used but apple prob didn't go with something like that for profit/cost reasons.

Interesting, I love how far out these discussions get.

Glad I Got The Sport!

Most of you people here are overreacting. Or most of you don't wear a watch on a daily basis. I'm a watch fanatic. I wear g shocks. Kenneth Cole. Guess. A/X and many more other brands. Most are stainless steel cases and most have good crystals. My watches are well maintained. I don't beat them to death. I ordered a 42mm SS sports watch and still waiting for it. Cost me $643 after taxes. I'm not worried one bit about how I'm gonna treat it or how well it will hold up. I own 2 Rolex. A datejust I and datejust II. Those watches cost me thousands of dollars. I wear those normally. I don't abuse them. They both in great conditions. I send them to get polished every 5 years or so. I'm 33 with kids. Ask me if I'm worried about how I'm gonna handle a $600+ watch versus a $6,000 dollar watch. You people need to chill out and enjoy your watch. U sound ridiculous when u saying my watch is better than yours.

Lol I know right.. Haha I should probably call them when my watch arrives lol
