Someone is trying to justify why they are happier with the cheaper model. Just be happy and keep it to yourself.

This. There seems to be a lot of insecurity among Sport owners, which is ridiculous because it's a great watch! I don't understand why they feel the need to justify their purchase.

Actually I see a lot of insecurity with the SS owners as well. I'm not insecure. I know my finances :) If the SS and Sport were the same price, I still would've got the sport. If the sport was more $$ than the SS, I still would've gotten the sport.

I don't think one screen is better than the other.

They are build according to how they would be used. I.e the sport that's less reflective and impact resistant is perfect for sports and other fitness related activities both indoors and outdoors. And the normal one with better scratch resistance as it's not exposed to that much impact.

It's all about trade offs.

Has there been tests conducted that show the sport more impact resist?

Why doesn't everyone just but both models? You'll get the best of both worlds. It's not like they're very expensive to begin with LOL

Huh? When the new one comes out, don't u just buy it? What's so hard In That? I just ordere a SS I could care less about already since they were late on my expectations, they didn't deliver.

Huh is right!

Sounds like you got the right Apple Watch, then! Good for you. :)

I am just going to settle this now. Your sport watch sucks!!!!! Apple Watch rules!!!!! Your sport watch bites the big one!!!!! Hahaha It reminds me of the old beer ads, "Less filling!, tastes great!". Now if only an Apple Watch Edition owner would chime in and tell us both how much our non-gold watches are inferior to his, we could join forces and crush his waste of 10k.

Thanks, I'll make an update after a couple of months.
Probably sooner than that... You will bump your precious Sports AWatch into lots of things during that time - everybody does, but the difference is survival of sapphire...
Have a look here - this is your future... eventually...

BTW; Please stop defending your purchase choice, your persistent and hilarious replies sound like desperate attempt to justify your sport purchase.

With all the talk of the stainless steel getting scratched easily and the sapphire screen being inferior to clarity than the ION-X glass:

http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/27/apple-watch-display-comparison/

I am glad I got the Sport!

Yes, you can just buff the scratches on the stainless steel but by doing this a lot, you can actually buff away the coating and will eventually see the actual steel under there if you're not careful. The aluminum on my Sport got in contact with steel a couple of times, but it didn't get affected a bit...no mark of any sort was left. My ION-X glass is still pristine with no visible nor difficult to see/'only seen when angled' scratches. Of course, I am being careful but not overly paranoid.

I think us 'Sports' owners got our money's worth it. And no, I'm not justifying my choice, I just don't want to do extra effort to keep my watch look brand new...just blow on it and slightly wipe it before going to bed.

Please!!! do some research on stainless steel. Before u come here with the foolishness. Let's see SS is used to manufacture the Empire State Building, the 630 foot Gateway Arch, and lot more.

And please explain to me, how in the world can one polish away the chromium that gives SS it's shine and great protective corrosion properties? A mean chromium is added to the steel while in its molten state. So as a result, the two becomes one. Good luck to anyone who can polish away any of the two. Look at my Citizen Eco drive in this photo. Have this watch going on 6years. It's my beach watch, do a few scuba diving with it as well no problem. Still looks new as the day I bought it.

Look u can not compare the two, SS is far more superior than aluminum. U know that's one of the reasons why the Apple watch is more expensive. Because of the materials used to make it. In the end enjoy your AW sport, it will be quite durable of corse. But to say u are glad u got the Aluminum, because the SS scratches easily etc. even if u polish the SS it will still out last the anodized aluminum finish. So it's pointless to say SS will not last if u polish it all the time, that's false. Because it will last a long time.

I feel there are just as many SS owners trying to justify spending more money by down playing the Sport calling it cheap, ugly and toylike. I bought the Sport and love it. I'm proud of it and have no need to justify my purchase. I can more than afford the SS version but chose the Sport because for what I'm using it for(working out, running and biking) I personally think the aluminum looks better than the SS. I don't like wearing shiny things. Even my 14K gold (not silver) wedding band is brushed so it doesn't look shiny. I save the chrome/shiny look for my Harley. Now this being said the SS is very nice and is an upgrade with materials. I'm just glad I was able to get the version I WANT and save $200.

Scratches can easily and have already been polished out.

Your screen is inferior. Just wait until it start scratching with daily activities.

Enjoy.

I've never used a screen protector on any of my iPhones and have yet to get a scratch on the screen. Ion-x glass is supposed to be even more scratch resistant than the glass used on the iPhone so I'm not worried.

I think it has to do with some SS owners calling the the Sport model cheap.

Well... According to several posters on these forums, ithe screen scratches quite easily. A few have managed to scratch it on day one. A couple didn't even realize that they had done it. You will need to be careful as having something on your wrist where it is being swung around all the time and prone to going banged into things is quite different than an iPhone screen that is usually much better protected.

I'm not saying that Sport is cheap etc... But evidentially the screen is pretty easily scratched.

I just set mine up. Seems solid enough. Doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart anytime soon.

Then again, a good whack ....

You're not going to want to-- the stainless will look absolutely no different even after 1000 times.

That being said, I've been on the fence, but actually like the SG body and feel more than the stainless. The stainless (with sport strap) barely feels any heavier or more substantial than the aluminum. I also find the space gray anodizing to be very well done and impressive!

Silver aluminum cases look cheaper to my eye.

Let's compare after polishing your stainless steel a hundred times. :)

Personally, I went Sport model now because of 2 reasons:

1) That's how much money I had to spend now
and
2) It's the first gen of a new product line so I wanted to test the waters and not spend as much on it.

If I like it a lot (and I think I will) then I will buy some good bands for it down the line a bit, maybe receive some as gifts for Christmas and in a couple years upgrade to the mid-level watch. This has a two-fold benefit:

The model in 2 years will be vastly updated and the bands I will have purchased along the way will work with that model as well.

I was accosted on another forum for not getting the SS because it would hold its resale value better (large assumption, and of questionable relevance)

I don't see why people are so belligerent about their choice of model.

To borrow a phrase from my youth, "take a chill pill!" ;)

Good luck polishing the scratches out of the glass though, as seen in other threads here.

Sapphire is a wonderful material. I'm glad that it's on some of my watches. I'll be keeping those for a lifetime.

My apple watch will be in the dumpster in under two years, probably closer to one. I'm not clumsy. Even the cheaper non-sapphire watches I used to wear in high school/college still looked good when I could afford nicer things.

That said... visibility in sunlight will be a daily issue for me.

Am I the only one that wishes he could get a SS model with ion-x?

Sport to me is a good purchase for those of us who either:

A) have other nicer watches

or

B) want to test the waters on a 1st gen product

I happen to fall in both camps.

But to pretend the Apple Watch is somehow far superior is misguided at best. Are the materials better overall? Yes. But you can still dent and scratch fine SS watches and even crack the sapphire crystal.

My Panerai is pretty beat up, but then again its been to Africa and other crazy places in the world I would never wear my Apple Watch

Pictures don't show it that great, all i have is my iPhone on me, but my sapphire crystal is literally missing a chunk by the 9, and the side has a huge dent in it. But hey, I bought it to wear!
