I wasn't glad when I bought it yesterday. Comparing Air and iPad 2 seem not much except for weight. Speed tells no difference. I need more time to play with my Air. :apple:

I think we all get very mixed up with the hype whenever apple release anything new. I mean let's face it, unless you are on a first or second gen iPad then there's hardly any need to upgrade other than your own conviction or desire to generated by good marketing on apples side. Kudos to apple on this one, they seem to be the only company that can pull this off these days. I'm currently on an iPad 4 ( my first btw) and will probably keep it until the battery dies or it no longer fits my needs. These no need to jump at everything new, and the fact that you forgot about wanting to upgrade proofs that it was purely a decision made for you by apples marketing machine. Seriously, you will know when it's time to upgrade.

I love my air. Can't wait for this years iPad too

Please tell me your not comparing an iPad to an iMac ?

I never said that. I wanted a device that I could surf the web, do video editing... and have had enough of Windows. So at first a Mac was not in my price range, so I was looking at an iPad for some basic work, but when I got an iMac, I have been doing way more that I would have ever done an an Air. 2 family members got iPad Air's, and they are good, but I am glad I got an iMac.

An iPad is a computer. An iMac is a computer. Please don't tell me you never knew that ;)

I was debated, because I really loved my 4, but after a tour at the nearest apple store I gave up and bought my iPad Air.

Absolutely happy with the purchase.
I'm waiting for a software fix for the memory leakage problem, but I still have to see my iPad crash ONCE.
The only app with problems for me is Safari, and I switched to Mercury Browser for that reason.

Bought the Ultimate Crashing Machine after giving my iPad2 to my mother-in-law. Returned the Air after multiple crashes/day, and kind of hinted I want my iPad2 back, which was met with a big frown, so now I'm screwed. I'm ok with my MBA for now. Will wait until Apple figures it out.

Yet have to see a single crash out of Safari on my Air, and I'm using it not less than 4 hours a day with any kind of applications.
iOS 7 64 bit still have to be refined, for sure, but nothing like an "ultimate Crashing Machine" here.
My iPad 4 was rock solid, but it crashed a couple of times in the last 4 months.
My Air with same apps still have to.

The non-retina iPad 2 uses less RAM than the retina. So claiming the 1 gig of RAM is enough is your guess, and is not compatible with most people's experiences, soecificaly when having their tabs refresh constantly in safari.

Also, looking for 7.1 to fix ALL the issues is setting yourself up for disappointment.

iOS 7 is a real step down for stability and performance. Hopeful it gets better with 7.1, but there will still be issues that remain, specifically when it comes to the air/rMini running at 99% RAM utilization , due to Apple's stinginess/thirst for max $$$ at user experience expense.

On iOS 7 after boot my Air has 520 Mb of free ram.
On iOS 6 after boot my iPad 4 has 580 Mb of free ram.
Hardly a huge difference.
Both are retina. Both have 1 Gb of ram.

Try again.

I'm very glad I didn't go for an iPad Air and instead opted for an rMini.

It's much more enjoyable for me (personally) in terms of screen size and portability.

I've found myself using it more than I ever did with my iPad 4th gen...

The iPad 3 was so terrible and laggy that I returned it and glad I kept the iPad 2 at the time.

That's strange, Mercury crashed exactly like Safari on all the websites that cause crashes.

You may not mean it, but your actually comparing an iPad to an iMac. Are they both computing devices? yes but vastly meant to do different tasking. Maybe one day the iPad on its own can stand without an iMac but not yet. I don't think it's even fair to compare the two in the same sentence.

There are not websites that cause crashes. It's the poor memory management of iOS 7 and Safari particularly.
Mercury is better.

Very glad I sold my 3 for the air. They are not even close on weight and speed.

...I don't understand this crashing people are talking about I maybe have had my browser close like 2 times in the last 2 weeks. I would never consider going back to my iPad 2

I love mine. With the newer iOS updates, it doesn't seem to crash as often as when I bought it.

I mostly use it to watch movies, so the smaller size is excellent. I moved from an iPad 3 to an iPad mini and now back to the iPad Air due to the reduced footprint.

I wanted to purchase a device to to web browsing and video editing, 2 chooses. No.1 tablet on the market, or 1.computer (or at least in my opinion. You may say they are for different things put the point still stands that the iPad could have done what I wanted it to do. iMovie works great on it and browsing is fluid. The iPad was one of these device that's soul purpose varied between users. I'm glad I never went for the iPad as my iMac does more anyway (like proper photo editing...). And I still do not recall comparing, U was only stating I was going to by A, then I bought B with my money instead. There is no comparison there.

Mercury is better.

There are some websites that will cause a crash in Safari (and other similar browsers).

I had a list of 17 websites that would consistently crash the Air, open the website, move down and pinch zoom, crash!

I used them as examples to get a full refund on my Air, as I had passed the normal time period for refunds.

I love my air. I have no problems with it and i pity the fools with their old, heavy ipads. Good luck reading an article with one hand while drinking a whiskey with the other with your ipad 3:s. This thread is stupid.

Lol

Really though there's still an iPad 3 hanging around my house can't believe how friggin heavy it is now!!

I like the Air but I'm not in love with it. Of course, I would trade my 4 for one straight up but since I have to buy one...and the money it would cost to get the desired spec (64GB LTE) I think it might be better to hold on to what I have for now.

I had an AIR for almost a month was able to pick up the rMini and swapped out. RMini size was better for my purposes. I don't regret having the Air but the rMini is a better bang for the buck. Only wish I could afford both.
