Apple of my Icon

The tower is one thing, but the landscaping around it as well? I haven't seen the rest of Shanghai, but I imagine this should draw some attention. Then, again, it's scary in a way that I just can't put my finger on.

What's ridiculous is your opinion.

looks ridiculous and excessive to me. i live in washington dc and we reserve grandiose monuments like that for presidents and national heroes, not a consumer brand. fitting for a place like china though, i guess. gotta build something big to compete with the giant portraits of chairman mao.

It's not grandiose and it's not a monument. Open your eyes. For one thing, Chairman Mao is long dead, as evidenced by the fact that the Apple Store is surrounded by other high-end western stores.

Apple has both transformed the formerly empty space into a focal point of the whole shopping mall. AND it's managed to trump all the other stores for virtually every visitor's attention, all while making a significant architectural upgrade to the whole place, much like what it did with its Fifth Avenue store in NYC.

It is kind of scary. A glass (albeit, small) Barad-dûr. ;)

Gee, how come we don't have any Apple stores in the U.S. that look like that?

wow, look were all the iphone money went. I guess maybe I 1/1,700,000th(number might be bigger) had a part in this. lol...

if Steve Jobs designed the Cube in New York... did he designed this one also? if he did it I need to say he can go ahead and start doing building designing for living... WAO

The China store looks great! I wonder if it's 24/7 like the New York store?

If I were Steve Jobs, I'd only hire hot looking asian women to be Apple employees working that store, and I'd give them some snazzy new Apple outfits to wear, not just a colored t-shirt.

So the missile silo targeted at Gizmodo's HQ is right under the glass? Looks pretty cool

its a bit much imo, but i feel the same way about the NY store. i can't blame them though given just how well their stores do.

FOOLS!! This is Apples wormhole displacement device. Steve is building it so he can go to the 4th dimension and get a genetic refurbishment.

The center is where steve will enter and get sent into the 4th dimension.

Rumors are that SJ detected a signal from a Star called Vega and they received thousands upon thousands of pages of a detailed set of plans on how to build this novel device. They are doing it in Asia to keep it secret from crazed religious nuts who might want to blow it up.

Why do you think Steve Jobs designed any of the stores? He most certainly did not.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken (and I could very well be) I remember hearing Steve Jobs did have a very strong hand in helping to design the N.Y. flagship store (and input on all stores regarding materials like the Italian marble used) which is why Disney had him consult with them for the upcoming redesign of all the Disney Stores.

Of course something so simple and "Apple" logoed is going to have a beautiful affect on any fan. But the form and space is just horrid. Its a fricken glass cylinder surrounded by concrete, how original.

Then you design one better. We're waiting.
