I'm just stating where my opinion is coming from.
So what exactly were you reasons, as an architecture student, for pointing out that it was a terrible design? Functional? Aesthetic? Functional is one thing—not sure what's wrong with it—but if your complaint is related to aesthetics it is odd that you've chosen an artistic career. Also entertaining that you're certainly criticizing highly skilled and successful professionals in a field you're endeavoring to enter.

In my opinion, as an architecture student, this is terrible.
Quite correct, yours is a terrible contribution, managing to be vague, dull, pointless and self aggrandizing. Not bad - I suppose - for 10 words.

I agree with you. I love Apple and always support them. This is first time I've felt odd, like dirty.

I wish they'd tone it down some.

I know how you feel. I'm not one for reading into things, but it's not a huge stretch to imagine it as a statue to SJ. Scary thought.

As for those wondering about the exits - we have underground car parks, and they seem fine. Underground levels in hospitals, underground stations, etc. I can't imagine why a retail store would concern you any more than any of those things I just mentioned.

Me want! Wait.. Its a lighting-risk store; if struck, the whole thing would shatter. A peaceful reminder: DO NOT GO there during a storm..

Ohhhh, It's made of grass.

Wow that is beautiful and not because it's Apple but because it is really a stunning piece of architecture.

I was in Shanghai just last week (vacation) and saw this cylindrical shaped building - immeidately I thought to myself 'geez that would be a great location for an Apple store' until I actually saw the Apple logo revealed behind the curtain.

This location is perfect. It's close to all the landmarks in Shanghai and the cylindrical shape is most appropriate. Case in point - this is what looms opposite the Applestore:

Kind of like the pyramid on Louvre Museum. However I like the Apple design better, so neat and elegant.

Hmm... I think they should have spent some more money on R&D for the iPhone 4 instead of creating that awesome store...

Knock off this stupid gossip.

SJs desire to have Apple be a cultural icon is getting a little bit excessive.

The primary objective should always be to focus on the product and the end user experience.

You have no idea of what you're talking about.

The only reason Apple has achieved the prosperity it now enjoys is because of the primary objective you state. There's no evidence that anyone--especially Steve--has strayed from that.

I know you're being satirical, but come on. I believe Apple has the resources to spend money on R&D and build a store.

I think this concept the Beijing Apple Store is more architecturally interesting

I'd never seen that concept design; that is beautiful.

A Thing of Beauty

This is an amazing store, just like the 5th Avenue store in New York, but round instead of a cube. I expect a round elevator inside the a glass column inside the glass staircase, inside the outside glass column.

It fits beautifully within the round terrace, surrounded by other retail outlets. Notice the HSBC branch there. And there are other curved building further out.

Remember, China, and particularly Shanghai, worship our business techniques and our businesses. Someone suggested maybe Lenovo would match and go one step further at some other plaza, and I wouldn't be surprised.

It seems time for me to take a trip to Beijing and Shanghai to see the progress they've made and to see the Western business impact first hand.
