looks ridiculous and excessive to me. i live in washington dc and we reserve grandiose monuments like that for presidents and national heroes, not a consumer brand. fitting for a place like china though, i guess. gotta build something big to compete with the giant portraits of chairman mao.

Don't you wish you where there. LOL.

I love to be there for the grand opening, should be a crazy. :D

Or be the Manager of that store.

Looks cool, but how about putting some of that ingenuity into actually making computers again. ;)

I guess you haven't seen the new Mac Mini. Or the aluminum unibody MacBook Pros. I suppose that the new Mini is heralded as introducing a new class of server is nothing ingenious. Or how with the iPad, iPhone, and multi-touch iOS, they are singlehandedly bridging the gap between mobile and desktop computing in what is the logical and necessary evolution of technology. And they do all that with fantastic vertical integration of hardware and software while maintaining a focus on elegant design. Nope, you're right, no ingenuity.

New class of server? Hahah! Who (outside of mac fanboys) has "heralded" the Mini as a new class of server? Can't even user replace the HDDs.

SJs desire to have Apple be a cultural icon is getting a little bit excessive.

The primary objective should always be to focus on the product and the end user experience.

Do you honestly think that OS designers were in any way involved in this? This building stole no resources from other parts at Apple, they have billions in the bank.

Actually, in DC they take those huge gobs of money and give them to powerful politicians to build expensive monoliths in their home states that serve only as attempted bribes to get said politicians re-elected. You know, bridges to nowhere - that sort of thing.

But technically you're correct - those expensive money-wasting "monuments" aren't located in DC.

Still better than all the waste of money to God's which ever flavor you believe in. What to see waste of money, check out Texas, plenty of that here.

A truly great monument if I ever say one. Glorious is to not be the poor on a day like this.

Of course something so simple and "Apple" logoed is going to have a beautiful affect on any fan. But the form and space is just horrid. Its a fricken glass cylinder surrounded by concrete, how original.

Seriously I'm so sick of people like you on this forum. If someone disagrees with you they have to be a fanboy right? It seems lately if you like Apple products on this board you'll be labeled a fanboy.

How about PC Mag.

"With the Apple Mac mini with Snow Leopard Server ($999, list), the sort of flawless design and ease of use we expect from Apple comes to a space that usually offers neither: the server market. Apple's home/SMB server is strong on looks and drop-dead simplicity (for a server, anyhow) and, as you'd expect, less so on tricky functionality such as integration with Windows Active Directory. The resulting machine isn't for heavy-processing workloads, such as a database or e-commerce server with a lot of daily transactions. It's best employed as a Web server and e-mail server or for daily business processes (such as file and printer sharing). If that suits your home or SMB, this elegant little server is a great choice for a small network or workgroup that is all Apple-based or mixed with Windows 7 or XP machines. I'm impressed; I'm also impressed with OS X Leopard Server; I'll evaluate that here, too, since it's the brains of Apple's clever server."

For the price, and for basic home use, it does a fine job, I would not put 100 clients on it, but could run a few things without having serious problems.

Sure its a gimmick but what isn't. Ever seen the low end Windows Servers Dell and others sell. I would not put my companies business on cheap hardware.

Gimmicks to go around. Apple included. But you can't beat the price for unlimited license and easy to use. :D

You forget you're talking to an architecture student. Obviously an authority on the subject.

Have you not seen the NY stores relay no different.

It's really a hidden missile silo...

I wonder what the Chinese employees would look like.

what? The Apple shops have great user experience because they create a beautiful place to come into contact with the product.

According to who?

Apple would not be producing products of anywhere near the level of quality today if they hadn't placed value in advertising and presentation. It is part of running a business. In fact, if not for this, Apple wouldn't even be.

Wrong.

The primary objective has always been the WHOLE experience. From the moment you walk into the store, buying a product, unpacking it, and finally using it.

no99 in functionality and spec.

Design is more than about how things look. Apple functionality (which happens to be part of design) is also top and spec is fine as the computers do the job they are meant to. Pray do tell which task has your mac not been up to?

In my opinion, as an architecture student, this is terrible.

That's a really pointless statement. If you elaborated as to why you think it's terrible then it might be less pointless.

Having been a student (twice) I can vouch you don't really know anything yet.
