the laws are probably different in many countries. i am sure the german news agencies and publishers for example would lose their ... over it

that being said, i got it once i set my phone to "US" but i dont really like it. its cluttered just like the "For You" section in the Music App and I get overwhelmed by the amount of content. as a result i simply dont read anything at all.
I can't comment on that because I didn't see it ... but I'd like to have the choice to use it or not, just like Apple Pay (why we don't have it yet ?)

I wasn't aware they were counting.

I like the News app. I'm looking forward to global deployment; I'm tired of seeing things in Imperial units :)

Aah sorry I'm getting confused between all the "xxxxx Suggestions" things.

It pays to know what's going on in the world but ignorance is bliss I suppose. Just a tip, don't book a holiday to anywhere in the Middle East. There's a reason it's cheap at the moment ;)

Lol. ;0)
Ugh... between those headlines & "Kardashian" type of faux news, I want to gouge my eyes out every time I pop open Spotlight!
I keep assuming Apple is about to fix this... it seems so blatant.

What's shocking about this news is that Apple admitting their services are not functioning properly, because they are too busy doing other more things. Seriously, they are making so much things that they can no longer focus on improving the experience. The serious problem is it's not only the news app but the entire software. Bugs in every update and they're so busy that they forgot they have this app that is so good called Aperture (I know they already killed it). Cook seems not happy that he wants more products in the market like the HUMP. :p

Tried it when it was new, and put it in my junk app folder and continued using Twitter. I'm sure it's okay, I just can't see it being better.

I like it. I have it where I mostly get tech and science stories. But I still get most of my news from Twitter. I can follow my favorite publications and some of my favorite writers.

I really dislike the ap; i wish i could totally delete it, but I have not figured out how. I have turned off as much as possible in settings but when you go the spotlight screen, it still displays news it feels you should know about......really dislike that. If i want to read the news, I seek it out on my own. i do not need apple to tell me news they feel is important.

It's got its fair share of quirks but I use it far more than I ever did the individual sites and there are some apps (Engadget) that I've barely opened at all since News became available in the UK.

Thank you again!
Wouldn't you agree that news on Spotlight should come from only the sources I've set up in preferences??
I'm not a coder, but that sounds like one minute of work to implement that. It's VERY frustrating.
I think this is the key part of your argument. The stories on the Spotlight page should come from the "for you" page which in turn is generated based on your preferences.

I love the news app for discovering news and I've been using it since the betas. Without the news app I was only getting news from here, 9to5Mac, and sometimes CNN.

No, you're lying because nobody uses it. Don't believe me? Just look at the earlier posts from the people who obviously know what everyone with an iPhone is doing, since nobody has any use for the iPhone or its apps that they, personally haven't conceived. /s

Seriously, I use the News App all the time. It's an easy and quick way to get caught up on actual news (Read: Not on Facebook) from multiple sources.

I'd like to try it, but it's not available in Canada, just like iTunes Radio and Apple Pay (AMEX only, so it doesn't count).

Tim Cook and his minions treats Canadians like second class.

Shorter version of Cue's explanation: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not a huge fan of Cook, but as the phrase goes, sometimes its not about you. Just b/c Apple doesn't offer certain or complete services in a country doesn't mean it's ignoring that market. Sometimes it's the local license holders or the law, tax code, etc., in that market that is gumming up availability.

I miss Zite. Not a fan of Flipboard's UI at all. I'm beginning to use News more and more, but it's still not my go to for info. I agree with others that the loading of the site after opening needs work. It should be current when I click on it. I also want to dig deeper into the types of stories I want from each publication. For instance, I only want Sports news from the Washington Post. This would really help me tailor the app to my preferences and make it much more relevant to how I'd like to use it.

My problem with Apple's garbage "News" app, is that it forces itself on me in a horrific way.
I don't use this term lightly- but I feel like it's a form of visual rape.
I insulate myself from negative news because it's more than just "I don't care", it's that it really disturbs me & ruins my day. I don't want to read about ANY violence... not murders, not bombings, not crimes, etc. I choose NOT to allow that in my life.
I only read tech news. That's what makes me happy & that is my choice.
That has been working perfectly for many many years.
Actually, right up to when Apple started forcing this on me.
Even though I went through & tweaked my settings, unchecking "politics", entertainment", "sports", etc.. & ONLY leaving "Tech" checked; Apple IGNORES my preferences. Any time I swipe right I get sensationalist headlines "Actor died", "Suspect captured", "Market fell", etc.
I am NOT sue happy in the slightest, but I'll tell you what- if there's ever a class action about this, I'll jump.
I do NOT deserve to be force subjected to having this negativity shoved in my face, when I clearly have gone to great lengths in my life to avoid it.
Some people don't mind all that. I do. To me it's as bad, or worse than if they forced pornography to pop up unbidden, any time a user swiped right on their screen.
It is ridiculous, uncalled for, and an affront.
People should be able to control on their devices what they do NOT wish to view.

I don't get it. You can disable notifications for News, and you don't have to use the app.

I don't like the way the news app gets "stuck in the past". If you come back to it after a couple of days, it will still show you the stories you were reading back then. You then have to scroll, to gradually load all the articles in-between, until you finally get to the actual "news".

I'd much prefer if the latest stories loaded first, and you scrolled down to see older stories.

Just tap the top like in safari and it'll bring you to the very top. Best approach honestly. Otherwise you'd get people complaining about it not starting back up where they left off.

True. I have it turned off as I didn't feel News was better than my older news apps or enhanced my news reading experience. That said, Apple apps like News should be 100% optional just like a 3rd party app. It's really not enough to be able to disable an app. The phone owner should be able to remove it completely.

You're right...
You DON'T get it.

To be 100% clear...
You actually CANNOT disable random news stories that have nothing to do whatsoever with the preferences in Apple News that you've set, from showing up in Spotlight unbidden- without disabling all the power and improvements of Spotlight itself by disabling the entire "Spotlight Suggestions".
That's ludicrous!!!
Spotlight Suggestions are awesome and amazing and personal and useful...
News showing up that you have NOT said you want to see (i.e. from categories you aren't interested in or despise) is the opposite of that.
