At the end of the day, the dealership can do what it wants. They don't work for GM. GM supplies the cars and takes a cut of the sale. If dealerships want to control everything, they can run their own locations and hire the employees that sell there. Don't like it? Don't contract part of your business out to third parties.

So GM basically is saying we want to go out of business like most of are other brands that are no more they got top notch leadership.

They know they have a bunch of GM zealots out there who will gobble up whatever QC nightmare garbage they want to shovel.

Wireless CarPlay uses Wi-Fi.
It does but the initial connection is negotiated over Bluetooth.

Having said that, I use an iPhone 15 Pro for wireless CarPlay every day on a Honda without issues. Not sure what kind of problems the other poster is seeing.

It has so far

General Motors Posts Record Profit of $14.9B in 2024

January 28, 2025

General Motors Co. in Detroit today reported record 2024 profits of $14.9 billion, up 21 percent over 2023. The automaker did so with $187 billion in revenue last year, a 9 percent increase over year prior.

GM credits its performance to strong sales of full-size pickups, new and redesigned SUVs, and an expanding electric vehicle portfolio. Barra says she also expects GM’s growth to continue into 2025, despite the talk of trade wars and tariffs coming out of Washington, D.C.

Looking ahead, GM says it expects to bring in between $21 billion and $24 billion in automotive operating cash during 2025, which it expects to result in between $13.7 billion and $15.7 billion in profits.
We were still affected by the pandemic in 2023 - sales were probably much lower, so of course they improved in2024.

Apple needs to fix the Bluetooth on the 15 Pro. It never connects to CarPlay automatically and the audio issues are horrendous.

In troubleshooting such an issue, we must look at the various pieces involved.
  1. iPhone 15 Pro, with Bluetooth
  2. Car, with Bluetooth
At this point, the possibility of either side being responsible is an equal 50%, not just the iPhone at 100%.
  • Has your Car worked perfectly with other iPhones, and only this one is giving you grief?
  • Have you tried another 15 Pro to see if it exhibits exactly the same problem?
  • Are there other Bluetooth devices in near proximity that could be interfering with signal negotiation?
You want to narrow down exactly where the problem is, and then you can begin to resolve it.

Oh, well, thanks for that. Still, no other iPhone I’ve had has had these horrendous Bluetooth issues that the 15 Pro does.
I think you have just identified the source of the problem.

CarPlay normally is transmitted over and adhoc WiFi connection after a brief Bluetooth connection negotiation. The WiFi allows enough bandwidth for good auto and video. Bluetooth along can’t handle the bandwidth of both.

there might be some issues with the Bluetooth implementation of this device that don’t work well with your iPhone. Several of us use iPhone 15 Pros for wireless CarPlay and Bluetooth and don’t have problems. Bluetooth is famously complex for what should be a widely supported protocol and not everyone gets it right.

I also like Government Motors. They were one of the big three that took the bailout money.
FYI @turbineseaplane

If they hadn’t accepted the loans, then they and Chrysler would have gone under. That would have killed thousands of supplier companies and that would probably have taken Ford out as well. This was all caused by the banking crisis when the banks stopped issuing car loans and the car companies were suddenly without income. That is why the Bush administration (not Obama) setup the loan program to keep those companies and the overall economy afloat.

This was not a case of GM and Chrysler just driving themselves into a proverbial tree. Ford was only in a little better shape because they had just taken out some big loans for infrastructure changes that they could use for a buffer, otherwise they would have been in the same place.

Or using the wrong glue to attach body panels!

Almost every Tesla "recall" reported by the "news" has been an over-the-air software update. The newer cars are pretty trouble-free, and this glue problem is an easy fix. Oops!

Leased a 2025 Bronco Sport (AC Cowling’s Edition). Integrated CarPlay and Android Auto were not even on my wish list, but nice if I don’t have to pay a monthly recurring extortion fee.

GM seems hell bent on subsidizing their C-Suite compensation with subscription fees.

Seems to me there is a level of hypocrisy going on here.

Yesterday everyone was complaining that Apple had to provide an API so third-party smartphones could connect to the iPhone. How is this any different?

GM are not obliged to provide access to CarPlay. So what if they want to keep it a closed system so they can charge a subscription. That’s exactly what Apple have been doing for years.

To coin a phrase often used on here, Apple can always build their own car.
I think they both should allow more consumer choice. If the market alone is insufficient to ensure that, then regulation may be necesssary.

This one is not an over the air update and they used the wrong glue on body panels for the entire fleet

It’s not a small recall

The only reason the number isn’t huge is because they can’t sell these things because they are garbage vehicles with a whole bunch of social baggage attached to them now

People want CarPlay. But CarPlay is very buggy.

Why does my iPhone screen become unresponsive when connected to my Mercedes? Why does my car say “cannot launch CarPlay” all the time? Why does the sound come out of my phone instead of the car speakers?

And why are all these problems (temporarily) fixed when rebooting my iPhone?
